Ah, I misunderstood, thank you.

Yeah, they’re not giving that away in the trailer. Would they drag it out like they did Cap’s battle cry? I doubt it, but that did go over well so I guess we’ll see.
I disagree with the character choice. Ben Grimm shouldn't be embarrassed to say, "It's clobberin' time." His whole character is wearing his heart on his sleeve. He's a little lame, a little dumb, and extremely big-hearted. He's not an ironic hipster.
Is "It's clobberin time" the best hero catchphrase? It works perfectly for Ben Grimm's character to me.
Exactly. It's not something he would shy away from, or a phrase that's focus group tested or written for a kid's show. It's authentically him.

I'm going to give the movie a fair shake, but the trailer raised my hackles. It seemed to me that the MCU wanted to revitalize itself with a return to bright, ostentatious, sentimental superhero stories. I don't need another character winking at the camera, especially Ben Grimm. I won't be surprised if this fails for the same reason the last 15 Marvel movies have failed.

Not to be argumentative but shame and self hate are MASSIVE parts of Ben's character. "Its Clobbering Time" is a release from those things but the shame is always there. That said I do get the argument that clobbering time is legitimately him.

Film isn't comics. The balance between 2D comics page and an actual human being on film (less so in Ben's case of course) is a delicate balance. This doesn't appear to be a wink on Ben's part. The limited tease we get suggests it will be endemic of Ben "accepting his fate" and symbolize a victory in his battle with shame and self hate at some point.

I do hope you're wrong about this, boss. When I watch those trailers, I'm getting a very distinct Stan Lee and Jack Kirby silver age vibe. And that's what made Marvel who they are.

I'm hoping the film is a smashing success. But we'll know for sure soon.

That was the vibe I got until that exchange. I hope I'm wrong, too. Marvel needs a win. I need Marvel to score a win before I stop watching their movies.

I'm considering buying the Galactus popcorn bucket early because it will likely be sold out in my area by the time the movie comes out. Can anyone confirm without anything more than a yes or no (please) if Galactus is ever seen that sized compared to the characters in any of the media already released? I'm really trying to avoid everything FF and if it's movie accurate that could sway me towards making this crazy purchase.
His popcorn bucket will be sold online at regal, cinemark and amc store websites, if you can't get him in your theater.

💯 agree with you. I couldn't love the 60's vibe more! I'm going to drink it in in this movie, because when they end up in the "main" universe, that look is likely to disappear, unfortunately.

There's always the -possibility- that the scene in question takes place after Ben excitedly says his catchphrase for the first time and Johnny makes fun of him and tries to get him to say it again, so Ben just won't do it. Doesn't necessarily mean he won't do it for the entire movie. In fact, the situation I described could make it pretty fun when he finally says it again and just leans in to it rather than let Johnny get under his skin.

I say that from the perspective of 'writing a fun movie with good dialogue' rather than any understanding of whether or not that would be a sensible conversation between those characters based on their history because, as I've said in the past, I don't give a fuck about the Fantastic Four. They bore me to tears.

And sometimes trailers tell stories that aren't even in the movie. That's a big part of why I gave up trying to guess at plots from trailers. If the tone and such seems enjoyable, that's all I'm watching the trailers for anymore.
