I want to be excited about the MCU and totally respect those who are excited for it, but it's been a long while since I've actually looked forward to an MCU movie. I'm not trying to shit on anybody's enjoyment of the films, but I really like talking *about* them, and this is what I've got to say.
I did see Brave New World, and I can best summarize it with "but why, though?" I've been pretty vocal about how I don't like Sam as Captain America (he went from being the coolest Falcon to being, like, the 3rd coolest Captain America), and I especially wasn't interested in him being in a Hulkless Hulk movie. The closest thing we got to any actual Captain America content was there was a guy called Sidewinder (speaking of which, six years ago I'd never even heard of Giancarlo Esposito and now I'm already tired of him). Actually, it also had Isaiah Bradley in it, and Carl Lumbly is awesome, so that's a positive.
Thunderbolts suffers a lot from my own baggage, but I thought we were leading up to a Dark Avengers movie and instead it looks like we're getting Suicide Squad (and not the good one). I really liked Wyatt Russell's John Walker, Captain America (which is why Sam is only my 3rd favorite Cap), but I'm pretty indifferent to the rest of the cast. I'm not pre-judging it, it'll probably be good, but it's not the movie I wanted and doesn't have a lot of characters I'm interested in. I'm just not looking forward to it.
Finally, I'm kind of surprised at my indifference to the Fantastic Four movie. I'm a huge FF fan, and it looks great. I like the kitschy 60s aesthetic and the Thing looks great. However, I'm really turned off by it being a parallel Earth rather than just having them be in the pre-existing MCU Earth since that lowers my investment by quite a bit. I also have a vibe that we're going to be rushing thru a lot of the big moments in the lives of the Fantastic Four. I can't find the quote I'm basing that on, though, so maybe I imagined it. Anyways, this will probably be good too, but everything I know about it now is evenly split between "hell yeah" and "oh, no."
And that's it. There are literally no other announced MCU movies that I'm interested in. I've said before (a few times) that I think continuing with the Avengers characters after the Infinity Saga was a mistake and I'm really (really) tired of nostalgia casting in movies. Since Doomsday and Secret Wars both promise to be Avengers movies filled with nostalgia casting, I'm very uninterested in them.
Anyways, thanks for reading. I know I repeat myself a lot with these MCU posts, but I really do like talking about movies, even when I don't like them.
