Marvel Cinematic Universe Movies and Streaming Series Discussion

Florence Pugh is an absolute gem and one of the best casting decisions in the MCU (and that's something because the MCU has excellent casting overall). She's the main reason that I'm legitimately excited about Thunderbolts. Also, they're all super-powered so watching them do super-things that only super-people can do won't absolutely infuriate me.

It's infuriating.
Thanks for the detailed response! I did think the Wakandans getting credit for making him indestructible was a lame cheat. But - at least they tried. Same with Adamantium - that felt like an ADR fix to get some X-Fans into the theatre. BUT - I don't hate the idea that Adamantium didn't exist this whole time until Sersi created it. I mean, it's not a good idea - but I can see where it came from.

I'm really curious why they chose Ross/Hulk/Leader as the villain for this movie. Ross has zero ties to Sam - aside from putting him on the run? Which I guess is grudge-inducing but was so long ago and a different face ago that they should have gone with something else. Leader is a no, Betty is a no - and Bruce seems to have never been intended to be involved in this film. So - WTF? Feels like they wanted to make a Hulk movie and didn't want to pay Universal.

Joaquin and Sam are a fun pair, though they do seem to be the same character - which is why they share a codename, I guess. Isaiah is interesting and I like the actor and performance, but he's not much more than a victim/punching bag. Ruth is such a questionable call all the way around. And Harrison never feels like anything but Harrison.

It bothers me that NO ONE has thought about getting a new Avengers team together in-universe. WHHHAA?? Mr. Not Super Soldier Captain America didn't think a team might be handy to keep his ass safe? Just his one and only wingman? Why doesn't he have his own team (I guess technically he does - or did.)?

Scott and Hope should have done it, become the founding members of the New Avengers, with who was left and still under contract - and rope the Young Avengers in that way. And hey, if we're going full Hulk, why not go full Shang-Chi?

Also, maybe it's just me, but I would be fine not seeing Giancarlo in things again. He is always the exact same performance. I really wanna see the original cut of this to see just how bad it started to end up here. Could the Serpent Society have been *that* bad?

Just - soooo many poor decisions.

I'm in my "avoid everything" phase of Thunderbolts press at this point, but a) agreed and b) Yelena's Snap experience in Hawkeye was executed so well. Really cool to see it from that perspective.

Well, a couple of quick points: As we found out in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, the Sokovia Accords are still apparently a thing. I know, I know. You'd think with half the world's population disappearing for five years and then re-appearing unexpectedly, the United Nations would have more to worry about than the accords, but I guess not. There's also the fact that Tony and Steve are gone. Tony provided the funding and the tech and Steve was the team leader. Their headquarters was demolished. Natasha's dead. The Vision was destroyed. Thor went off in space. Yeah, there's not much left.

That said, it would seem a few of them still meet informally. Wong, Bruce and Carol all appeared at the end of Shang-Chi. Wong told Shang "Welcome to the circus" so the remnants of the team are still there acting as a kind of under the radar watchdog, I guess you could call them.

It stands to reason that the Avengers are gonna officially re-assemble at some point, but who's going to be in? Lots of candidates. Sam, Clint, Scott, Hope, Stephen, Thor, Yelena, Bruce, Carol, Peter, Rhodey, Shuri, Joaquin, Monica, Simon, Dane, Sersi ... hell, I don't know. But my guess is the end of Secret Wars will bring a whole new team.

I can't remember completely but didn't Matt Murdock say the accords were done with in She Hulk?

I just googled it, and you are correct.

Yes, the accords were repealed, I forgot all about that. 😊

I know. The Avengers fought a Civil War and Steve, Natasha, Sam and Wanda had to go on the run for years. Scott and Clint were under house arrest. And for what? As it turns out ... nothing, like you said.

Just like real persecution.

The funding is why I said Scott and Hope should be funding the next iteration - West Coast Avengers, if you want. The Pym Foundation is as loaded as Stark and since we can't have Pepper, Hope and her parents would be just fine as the leader of the next iteration. It also gets Spider-Man outta the way easily (opposite coast) and could give a new look. But alas. We went into CGI hell with nary a coherent character arc for those characters instead.
