Marvel Cinematic Universe Movies and Streaming Series Discussion

I'm trying to think of villains that would warrant such a noted fight team, and the only one I can really think of would be Mr. Negative?

Tarantula, perhaps.

As you can see, there IS an untitled Marvel movie scheduled for July 23rd, 2027. That date would put it right between Doomsday and Secret Wars. Marvel planted a flag on that date back before the writers strike and I thought for sure they would change that, but they haven't. They're still saying there'll be a movie.

Interesting. We'll see,

Tarantula, perhaps.
The only reason I wouldn't want Tarantula is that I'm a huge wimp, and the very word itself conjures the most vivid, spine-tingling images of a real tarantula in my mind and I can't shake it. It's a miracle enough that, with my arachnophobia, I'm as big a fan of Spider-Man himself. I don't need more spider imagery. 😅 But if they must, they must

Think of him as Tarantella, which would also explain all his fancy moves.

I would love Tarantula, even though I believe I've only ever read 2 books with him. I've just always loved his costume.

You wouldn't like it where I live. I'm about 27 miles east of downtown San Diego, right about where the desert meets the mountains. I saw a tarantula in my driveway last week.

We haven't had one in the house yet, but I suppose it's only a matter of time.

Haven't had one in your house....that you know of.

Yeah, I couldn't do it. It's bad enough here in NY with our mutant cockroaches. Then again, thanks to that one episode of Spongebob, I can't even stand butterflies. I love horror and all manner of spooky things, but bugs? Nah.

Ergo, one arachnid-themed character is enough. No Tarantula, and definitely no Man-Spider, unless ya'll wanna hear about some grown man on the evening news who was recorded squealing like a little girl in the middle of a Marvel movie, and not for the reasons you'd want.

You know, we have almost a year before the next live action MCU movie hits theaters.

And the rumor mill is already out of control.

I keep thinking about Brand New Day and how packed it is. Punisher and Banner are cool. Shang Chi, which is a big if, would be awesome. I still think Yelena, IF she's in it (Remember, that hasn't been officially confirmed. It's just a rumor for now) will only be in the post credits scene. She (and maybe Johnny Storm) will beckon Spidey to join her New Avengers team. That will basically help set things up for Doomsday.

And the villains. Tarantula, Scorpion, Tombstone, Boomerang, Venom, Mr. Negative and Ramrod have all been name checked.

Yes, it's a LOT. But that's how studios execs think. The more Marvel characters, the more merchandise (like action figures, for example) and movie tickets you can sell. Studio execs usually have just one thing in mind: their bottom line.

It makes you wonder if there's going to be room for Peter/Spider-Man. But I think this is going to work. It feels like it's going to be an event movie, just like we used to have event comics.

And then ... there's Doomsday and Secret Wars with probably a third Avengers film sandwiched between.

Could it happen? Could there be three Avengers movies to close out the Multiverse Saga instead of two? Well, Marvel Studios still has that July 2027 date reserved. (Incidentally, July 23rd 2027 will most likely be the same weekend as Comic Con). Yeah, it could happen. In fact, I'm starting to think it's more likely than not.

There are going to be a whole lot of characters in Doomsday and Secret Wars. A LOT. If you're going to give them all something interesting to do, and not just stand there and wave, then you're going to have to expand the story. One big rumor that's going around is there's going to be a big three way fight between the X-Men, Avengers and the Eternals. That would be cool and it might wrap up the dangling plot threads from the Eternals film. But if you're going to throw all those Eternals in the mix, then I don't see anyway around it. Marvel will have to make the next Avengers films a trilogy.

And then I was thinking about the budgets of these movies. If these figures are correct, Robert Downey Jr will make 60 million for Doomsday. The Russos will make 20 million each. That's 100 million dollars just for those three guys. Add the multitude of other Marvel stars, everyone from Hugh Jackman to Pedro Pascal, and you're looking at an easy 300 million dollars just in stars salaries alone. 300 million before a single frame of footage is shot. This movie is going to have to make a billion dollars at least JUST TO BREAK EVEN. Now in the pre-pandemic days that might not have been a big hurdle. Infinity War made two billion, after all, and Endgame made almost three billion. But these days one billion dollars seems near impossible. It's a different paradigm now. All we can do is hope Disney and Marvel know what they're doing. It would be great if Doomsday and Secret Wars could scale those two and three billion dollar heights again, but that's a difficult ask.

Well, time will tell. We'll see.

That Luke Cage show had flaws but he and the woman who played Misty weren’t one of them.
Right. And it actually had some good elements, but I think some of the pacing was an issue. That got to be more of a problem for me with each subsequent series. I think even Iron Fist had good things about it, and Danny got better at least.

The fake movie logos are getting a little out of control.

All I want is Young Avengers mentored by Scott and Hope. Kamala, Cassie (recast), Kate, Wiccan (and everyone gets haunted by Agatha), Feel like Yelena has adulted out of that group and that's okay.

That feels like such a fun line-up of characters - Ant-Man, Wasp, Cassie, followed by Kamala and bring in Carol, Kate, Wiccan brings in Agatha - all of those actors seem like a fun time at the theatre. And She-Hulk is their lawyer. :)

Also, cameo-wise, I still think Marvel won't put too many characters under Sony's control that Sony doesn't already control. I found the montage approach very unsatisfying in FFFS so I hope it's not a series of team-up cameos to remind audiences "hey, this character existed!"
