Marvel Cinematic Universe Movies and Streaming Series Discussion

I don't know if this was shared before; I don't remember seeing it at least, but Variety had asked Feige about some of the credit scenes characters returning:

Feige was far more circumspect about whether audiences can expect to see other A-list MCU cameos — like Charlize Theron’s Clea, Brett Goldstein’s Hercules, Harry Styles’ Starfox and Sacha Baron Cohen’s Mephisto — again in later projects.
“Do you want to see them again?” Feige asked playfully.
When a reporter responded that the inclusion of those characters indicates a promise that they would return at some point, Feige brought up the return of Tim Blake Nelson’s character Samuel Sterns from 2008’s “The Incredible Hulk” for 2025’s “Captain America: Brave New World,” and Rolf Saxon’s character William Donloe from 1996 “Mission: Impossible” for 2025’s “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning.”
“That is fun to me,” he said. “So let’s talk again in 12 years and see who comes back.”
What about major characters like Moon Knight or the Eternals — would they return?
“I don’t know that it’s any of the specific ones you just named, but yes, that is part of the plan: Characters we’ve introduced post-‘Endgame’ will pop up again in some of the upcoming movies and beyond,” Feige said. “The fun of the comics is anyone popping up anywhere.”

I don't really know what I feel about it, to be honest. I think I'd prefer them to not introduce any characters unless they have a plan for them. With already established characters and A-Listers who've gotten their own movie, sure, have them pop in here and there for little cameos and such, but for new characters? At least give us a movie or show with them featured prominently to tell us who they are and what purpose they serve before you write them off. I understand that plans change all the time and such, but for entire characters and storylines to be tossed by the wayside like that feels.....not great. At least try and work those characters into whatever new plans pop up. I think if/when those characters ever do pop up again, it'll be harder for the audience to care about them, since it's been so long since we've seen them last, which kinda tells the audience that they weren't important enough to be included before now, so why should we care now? Sure, that happens in comics a lot- something is set up and not resolved for a year or two, or an arc or two, but still. If I was an actor and I got cast in the MCU, did 1 day of work with the promise of cooler things to come, only to not be invited back for a decade, I'd feel pretty crappy, personally.

That's why I think an ongoing series like Marvel Presents or something, where every episode is 30-60 minutes and focuses on a different character who isn't getting their own movie or series would be really great. It's like the Specials (GOTG Holiday Special, Werewolf By Night), but a weekly, for 6-8 episodes, every year. Hercules gets an episode, Harry Styles and those Eternals get an episode, Moon Knight gets an episode, Man-Thing, Clea, etc etc. You could do a whole season for the Young Avengers/Champions, then give them their own series (which I think was the latest rumor) or 'tv' movie.

I admit I never saw Ted Lasso and really have no idea about the guy. That said, I raised an eyebrow when I saw the guy.

I still think a Marvel movie about a demi-god shown from the point of view of those around him would be interesting, not answering the question of 'is he really a demi-god or just delusional' until the end, or possibly... never answer it. Thor obviously didn't go that way, so I'd hoped Hercules could go with it, but clearly he's a legit god person.

Goldstein seemed to be an attempt to match the “Waititi humor” tone of the franchise. From what little we saw, it looked like they were going to lean into Roy Kent (his character from Ted Lasso) grumpiness. I love BG, but for Hercules I’d really prefer exuberant chaotic-bisexual energy. Like more Thor than Thor for MCU purposes.

Similar to the Demi god idea pitched above; I always thought Moon Knight always works best when the audience isn’t sure if Khonshu is real or if Marc is just crazy. Leaning that hard into “yeah the gods are real” in Moon Knight is its weakest element. Would have been cheaper to keep it more grounded. May Kalamay was awesome though.

I have similar thoughts that Ms Marvel should have been kept “smaller”

I am in 100% agreement all around. Scarlet Scarab should get AT LEAST a Marvel Presents episode for that series I know they won't do.

I haven't thought one way or the other about that, but I definitely feel they should do more smaller stories will minimal effects. I've said plenty of times, but not everything needs to be a bunch of CG destruction porn.

I thought casting Brett Goldstein was some kind of joke. On top of that joke of a movie, Love and Thunder. Taika got it SO right with Ragnarok, and got it so wrong with L&T. Casting Brett was just one more mistake to top off that wack movie.

Roy Kent I love though. Brett Goldstein is awesome, just not the right guy for Hercules.

May is so great in “Ramy”. I’m in favor of her in anything.

The reason I think it would have worked better keeping Ms Marvel smaller is because it would play up her being out of her element / over her skis in The Marvels. I mean she freaks out being inf outer space and dealing with aliens and what not which is good for natural comedy and character. However she’s a superhero that has already time travelled and gone to other dimensions. Just dial all that back.

The problem with Love and Thunder is there was too much Taika and not enough Marvel. Someone really should have been there to rein him in a bit.

But I guess the higher ups at Marvel Studios were too busy making all those TV shows. Hopefully they learned something about spreading themselves too thin.

I don't know if Ragnarok is still enough Marvel. It plays loosely with the storyline upon which it's based (World War Hulk) and takes liberties with characters like Valkyrie and the Grandmaster. As does L&T (Godbutcher, Gorr, Jane Foster respectively). I just felt the tone for L&T was too light, that Gorr was not depicted as the threat he is in the book. But yeah, it's a lot of Taika humor, which he/they thought they could get away with even more. That's not the only thing that made Ragnarok good though.

Yes!!!! Same. Ramy is up there on my list of shows where I can't stand the main character. I get characters need to be flawed and all that but Ramy really put my patience to the test. So much of the rest of the cast kept me watching though, and she was far and away the primary reason.

Okay, I definitely see that, thank you!

I think almost everyone has to be in agreement with this.

I'm sure they learned something, but I doubt it's what I wanted them to learn.
