Marvel Cinematic Universe Movies and Streaming Series Discussion

Man, 4 movies in one year? Surely that won't come to pass. I mean if it does, awesome. But that seems like a lot. But by then they will be on to a new Phase, a new Saga, and a whole new Marvel Cinematic Universe post Secret Wars. So, maybe we will get 4 movies in 2028. I'm so excited and interested to see what they do with the X-Men post Secret wars.

It's so weird to think though, 2028 isn't that far away. It sounds like forever, but it's only 2 years and 8 months until that February release date. Crazy.

Yeah, I've been listening to a couple movie podcasts recently that break down the making of movies, etc., and most of them almost always read a review or two at the end, good or bad. What's become clear to me is that most critics are only after soundbites. While I have no doubt that there's plenty of overlap with professional critics and good writers, most of the movie reviews they read are filled with such grandiose words and attempts at silly metaphors. They want those easily quotable opinions- good or bad- and that seems to rule out over anything else because they all want to be the one chosen to go on the poster or trailer. The episode I listened to yesterday was on Fellowship of the Ring, and they read the review of a critic who lambasted it. Subjective taste or not, I can't imagine anyone looking at any of the LOTR movies and seeing a bad movie.

Anywho- I can see 4 movies in one year being doable. In fact, if they all happen to deal with the same over-arching storyline, it might be nice to have them come out so close together. No more waiting years and years for the next chapter of a saga, at which point many have either forgotten or stopped caring. As long as they continue to put thought into things and treat them all with equal weight and care, I think it's okay (and inevitable) that things would line up for a few of them to come out in quick succession.

But also, SuperCamel, how dare you mess with my mind like that. I think part of me is still stuck in 2020 or so, so the notion that 2028 is less than 3 years away freaks me out. 😅

"Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more; Or close the wall up with our English dead!".

Too dramatic?

Anyway.

WHAT WE KNOW IS COMING (we just don't know exactly when) :

The Punisher Special
Vision
Blade
Shang Chi 2
Doctor Strange 3
Black Panther 3
The X-Men
Armor Wars

We're going to leave Fantastic Four 2 in the rumored stage for right now. The first one hasn't even been released yet. It looks great and obviously I hope it's a big hit, but don't count your chickens. The box office is hard to predict these days. FF could do Guardians numbers or it could be another Eternals, or maybe somewhere in between. We'll know in a few weeks.

Looking at the Phase 6 and 7 slate, there are a couple of things that appear to be somewhat questionable. In Phase 6, there will be an entire year between Fantastic Four and Spider-Man: Brand New Day. There are a couple of Disney plus series in there, Wonder Man and Daredevil. But no theatrical releases? Bob Iger is going to have a hard time explaining that to the shareholders. And then in Phase 7 we have two untitled movies that are exactly ONE MONTH apart in 2028. One in November and one in December. I'm a diehard Marvel Studios fan who's lived and died with this franchise since the beginning and even I have to balk a little at that. That seems like a bit much. The more casual fans are certainly going to have reservations unless Marvel does something really insanely special. A crossover with DC, maybe? That idea may not be that far fetched. James Gun has said there have been discussions. And the two companies are currently doing crossovers in the comics.

Anyhow, mindless speculation aside, I would expect to see more changes to this schedule before this year is out. But that's okay, I can keep up.

Nah. It would be amazing and so much fun, but two and a half years is too soon for this as a movie. DC Studios hasn't even introduced their versions of Batman and Wonder Woman yet. And Marvel's about to hit their reset button.

Maybe in 2030?

First off, it's heartbreaking but accurate that you left Armor Wars off. big fat ugh from me.

Secondly, I saw some speculating that rather than following the Infinity War (they lose) then Endgame (they win, mostly, but everything is different now!) format, that the 2028 movies aren't phase 7 at all and the 12/15/28 movie is actually Avengers 7. I don't think one way or the other, but I was considering if it was true... what would that title be?

Three years ago, marvel filed for a bunch of trademarks that people assumed were movie titles, and one that kinda sticks out to me still (since Eternity appeared in Love & Thunder) was Avengers: Eternity Wars. if Avengers 7 comes out on 12/15/28, that's my stab at what it will be called.

For those who want that whole list:

Avengers: Secret Wars

Avengers: The Kang Dynasty

Captain America: New World Order

Thunderbolts

• Hercules: Rise of the Gods

• Celestials: End of Time

• Captain America: Red, White and Black

• Avengers: Eternity Wars

Midnight Sons

• Red Guardian: Generations

• Runaways: New Era

• Nomad

• Shang-Chi and The Wreckage of Time

• The Black Knight: Origins

• Avengers Academy

• Avengers Timeless

• Avengers Excursion

• Timeless Saga

• Eternity Saga

• Sam Wilson Captain America

Chances are, some of those were never for the MCU at all.

Yeah, you know I should probably put that on there in the What We Know Is Coming category. Armor Wars was officially announced, after all. First as a series and then it was going to be reworked into a movie. It might still happen.

I have a whole big long list of "rumored but not officially announced projects", too. The Untitled Scarlett Johansson produced series, Midnight Sons, Ghost Rider and a slew of others. But that could take up pages and some of these will probably never see the light of day anyway. I think it's better not to drive yourself crazy.

And even when something is officially announced, that doesn't mean it's a slam dunk that it's going to happen. Marvel Studios announced an Inhumans movie back in 2014. It obviously never materialized. And Blade was announced back in 2019, six years ago. Where are we with that?

That's why my new official motto is "Don't count your chickens before they hatch." That said, I'm going to add Armor Wars to the list. No one at Marvel has officially said it's dead. Same with Blade. It'll stay there until Disney or Marvel says it's not happening.

Well, that's interesting. I have not heard that. So if that speculation is true and 2028 is all going to continue the Multiverse Saga, I wonder if one of the four movies will be produced by Sony.

Again, I wish Marvel Studios was going to be in San Diego this year. But hey, D23 will be in Orlando this year at the end of August. Maybe we'll get some answers then?

It's the Schrodinger's Cinematic Universe- a previously announced movie is both living and dead until confirmation to either side is given.

Luckily, Marvel doesn't seem to have gone the WB route yet of just canning a completely/mostly finished film, and I hope it never comes to that. What a terrible, terrible practice that I hope never makes a return.

Armor Wars... It might still happen.
It might. It sounds like a lot of the stuff outside of the things specific to Rhodey has been repurposed into other projects like Visionquest, but it might still happen in a different form or something.

I definitely agree. Nova was another one that seemed to be in serious development, then got dropped, and was never announced either way.

Exactly.

The last I heard, which was still NOT official, was the Blade movie was shelved in lieu of introducing the character in the Midnight Sons project, alongside Moon Knight, Black Knight, and a new Ghost Rider. Not that it's been announced.

Yeah... you're right.

It's pure fan speculation with no insider or even pretend-inside knowledge. I could see it going either way though.

I wish for that too. Even without a movie to pimp within the months after comic con, come on. Do something. but you're right, D23 is probably a more likely place since it's utterly controlled. Feige can say what he wants to, it's scripted and edited, done.

I guess we are at where the rubber hits the road moment about the share holders desire for content vs maintaining the brand. One would think the share holders themselves finally realize green lighting every thing isn’t a sustainable strategy and leads to a lot of pretty thin soup.

It’s a shame no one seems to like the hour long special model of WWBN and The Guardians Xmas thing. That seems a more proportionate model for things like Wonder Man if that show even has a substantial market at all. I like the idea after the XMen are on board there being XMen movies but like Storm and a Kitty Pryde hour specials sprinkled around. Not integral to the plots of the films but just added texture.

@PanchaMaestro as far as the specials, seems like they're still an option with the Punisher one coming.

And I really would have loved a mutant series, even if just a limited one, follow Charles' first class rescuing and soft-recruiting other mutants each week. A mutant of the week, with several they encounter becoming allies but not wanting to team. Then in the finale, basically do giant size #1 with those people who turned them down forming the new team, then movie.
