Marvel Cinematic Universe Figure Discussion

I've been dancing with the target app for 24 hours on Daredevil and Punisher. I didn't trust the stock count for a relatively nearby store, but also didn't want to drive all the way there to get streetdated or something. Later in the day, the stock lowered and I realized, okay, they're letting people buy them at least, but I wasn't able to leave the house at that point. They've come in and out of stock on the site but never at the same time, that I could see. It's really not a big deal, and I am so cheap most times that I've gotten plenty of deals in the past that $10 really isn't the end of the world. it would be nice but... ah well. Really awesome for those who scored though!

I was able to do an in store pick up of one Daredevil this morning. I ordered one more, plus 2x Punisher to be delivered. So far, it looks like they are fulfilled and shipping. The aisles at two stores this morning had no indication of the new items that became available online this weekend.

A bit of luck, a bit of loss. Punisher and Daredevil both popped up for pick up on Target nearby (at different stores and at different times, of course, so couldn't take advantage of the sale, oh well). Both said they were ready for pickup. Went to get Punisher, no problem, but when I went to get Daredevil, the pickup person handed me the evergreen Cap instead. Was a bit of a headache trying to return it too; even though I didn't even leave the store, the item didn't match what I'd ordered, so like 2 managers had to come over, and even though it all got resolved, nobody quite understood why it happened. Only thing they could think of was that the barecodes somehow got switched. Ah, well- one is better than none!

Did manage to find the new Avatar wave at the same store, though, so I grabbed a couple so I wouldn't go home empty-handed.

I ordered them both this morning, with the $10 promo. Should be here tomorrow. It still shows DD is in stock at my store...so maybe I'll see him today.

I got my DD and Punisher delivered to me yesterday from Target. Daredevil quick, before-work review:

Good: Sculpt in really nice, good detail in the suit, matte finish (seems weird to mention but it looks so much better than shinny plastic). The accessories are decent, I am really glad they included the rope.

I like the bearded head on this guy.....it's the look most 40 year olds are going with these days. I always wondered if that would be a detriment to the super hero secret identity; having your beard showing through your cowl. I would think yes.

Could be better: The articulation is only average. It will get you good DD poses, but it could have been a lot better in the torso....specifically giving him a ball jointed waist like the Jada Street Fighter stuff. The neck is interesting in that they went with a ball joint at the base and a disk hinge at the top for the head. He can look up, and because of the ball joint at the base, he can get some tilt in the head as well. This might be the best compromise for a company that never could figure out the double ball peg. The arms are ball and socket like McFarlane. His legs spread more than 90 degrees but he can't do the splits. So I guess the average articulation is my only gripe. Robo pointed out that some of his buckles should have been silver like in the show, and yes that would have made him pop more. The money ran out, I guess. That should be easy to DIY if I feel like it.

Overall I like him. Now off to work.

Have yet to watch the Disney+ episodes yet, but I liked the Netflix show. Daredevil really looks spot on / great. Didn't buy Punisher because he looks a little "Pauly D" from Jersey Shore for my taste. But Daredevil seems to be a great figure from what I'm seeing. Hopefully we get a proper comic update for the Secret Wars wave.

If those eyebrows on Punisher were furrowed just a bit more it would have made a lot of difference.

Netflix DD is the only Hasbro DD I own. They only want to put their updated comic Daredevils in multi packs, it seems, and I never wanted to spring for those.

Also received DD and Punisher from Target with the sale. @yojoebro82 pretty much nailed most of my thoughts verbatim. I do like that they're experimenting with articulation schemes. I like what's happening in the neck a lot. I don't love the shoulders, with the up/down motion at the cost of better forward/backward motion of traditional butterfly joints. Sculpts are great, likenesses ok. Frank looks worried, not angry. Happy to have them, and I'm loving how they look with figures like Final Swing Spidey, Wolverine, etc.

Did manage to find Daredevil in stock before I flew back home, so I'm glad to have them both. I also agree with a lot of YJB's thoughts- some better waist articulation really could've helped him, but it's not a dealbreaker. He's still really solid otherwise.

The necks are something I've noticed on a bunch of Hasbro figures recently. I, too, like that they're kinda experimenting with different styles, but it would be nice if there was a little more consistency across the board. Few, if any, of the figures I've gotten recently across Marvel and Star Wars share the same kind of articulation, or at least the same execution of it.

Punisher is nice, though. The same waist critique applies, but at least it makes a little more sense, since he's wearing the thick armor. I do like the cut they gave him along the armor, though; feels like an implementation of the articulation you don't see often. I agree on the expression, though- the likeness is great and I definitely know who it is, but it comes off a little....sad? Or like a guy having a bad day that then sees a cute puppy and starts to cheer up a bit? Not quite the super dark Punisher we're expecting.

I do like that they're experimenting with articulation schemes.
Mini rant warning:

That's good, of course, but what I'm wondering is, why are they still experimenting? There are companies that have had these things figured out and implemented for a year or more. If you're sculpting something ALL NEW for an MCU or the occasional ambitious comic figure, why not use the latest articulation? Where's that ball hinged waist and functioning butterfly joints? Why can't they do splits? Stop experimenting and just do it. It's like saying a car company is still experimenting with power locks and rear view mirrors.
