Marvel Cinematic Universe Figure Discussion

Yeah, I will be WAY more casual about what I get if my chances are essentially zero once the movie is long gone.

There is always part of me anxious for an excuse to quit, so that's entirely my issue heh. And not getting the orange/brown wolverine isn't a dealbreaker at all, but yeah the trend of late makes me feel like I'm not gonna end up with what I could call a complete collection. Ghost and Taskmaster are one thing, but also Echo, Bullseye (presumably) and other villains ... I dunno.

The fact that Hasbro ML isn't revisiting MCU characters in any dependable way is quite odd. The movies are still relevant and being watched and garnering new fans. But MCU Cap, IM and Spidey are the only ones they've put any effort into keeping on store shelves - and two of those get to skip likeness.

I don't remember either Infinity Saga wave doing that poorly, or sticking around longer than any other wave. Bruce was a slow seller and I found Thor at Ollie's, but from the first series really only Odin didn't do very well - he probably should have come with the throne, though, or in a two-pack. Anthony Hopkins doesn't scream huge seller (no offense to him or the figure).

We all understand what's happened the last few years (and I think the disastrous effect of PFP is STILL lingering), but why Hasbro isn't doing an MCU evergreen line-up a year is quite odd.

I get Mickey Rourke may be the problem with Whiplash, but other missing villains, like Kaecilius and Malekith, have lots of product of those actors. But never revisiting Avengers Loki even after he appeared in Endgame and the TV show makes no sense - that costume is cleared and cleared.

This all may be moot now, but this is the kind of stuff 3POA should have been asking Ryan. Instead, Bobby complained about not getting reference from Marvel (fair) and then they said the skintones were being heavily inspected and Ryan said skintones of actors should match between releases. Trying to think of who came out wrong that wasn't because of VFX - the first Chadwick likeness, second Shuri maybe? Aside from the super peachy of the Tbolts and FF figs, skintones haven't been a problem I've had or heard of people having for awhile.

The first MCU Valkyrie's skintone was super off too (and she was considerably out of scale) but they fixed that for every subsequent version of her

It's been confirmed the two broad MCU waves (with characters from TV, and the two What If BAFs) were terrible sellers. I don't see why a Deadpool / Wolvie wave wouldn't sell, since it was much more successful and well-received. That said, I'm a fan, but even I would've only gotten Cassandra (and maybe cowboy for customs if the gunbelt was removable).

Also, Kidpool, Ladypool, etc are all stiffs as Hot Toys figures - not saying that's a 100% 1:1 comparison, but maybe someone is using that data as a barometer. If they cut bait before tooling is made, they aren't out much $$.

Hasbro is in scramble mode, wouldn't be surprised to see more rumored / leaked stuff cancelled. I'm still shocked they haven't pfficially revealed Secret Wars Wave 2. Maybe they'll leak out one at a time like Iceman or maybe we'll never get classic Falcon...

Ah got it. I dunno... How about they can go shit an entire homeless man? And THEN... They have to bathe him and let him live in their extra room. AND produce a popular sitcom about the experience.

Here's what I'm thinking: a heirarchy of character visibility/viability

Movie Lead Character
Movie Supporting Character
Movie to TV Lead Character
TV Original Lead Character
Movie to TV Supporting Character
TV Original Supporting Character

D+ Wave 1 - all movie to TV characters, except US Agent - sold well
D+ Wave 2 - What If? wave + TV(A) Original Supporting - sold okay?
D+ Wave 3 - all Movie to TV or TV Original Leads - sold well (I thought)
D+ Wave 4 - one and a half Movie to TV Supporting Characters, all others TV Original Supporting Characters
D+ Wave 5 - one Movie to TV Lead, two Movie Supporting to TV Supporting, four TV Original Supporting Characters

Generally, it's the TV Original Supportings that have sold the worst. Which sucks. Also those last two waves got PFP'd - worth repeating.

I guess what I'm getting at here is it seems the viability of an MCU character getting made at this point is going to possibly be on the Movie Supporting level and up ONLY. The exception, of course, being DD and Punisher - but also, they are DD and Punisher (and somewhat grandfathered in).

With not even rumors of Echo, Ironheart, Agatha (the fact she double-dips is a coincidence), Wonder Man, or even Zombies and Wakanda Forever figures, it looks like we may be done with TV characters completely if even the leads aren't being deemed viable.

This all makes me really sad, as the depth this line had reached was making it so fulfilling. And most of the figures in these waves were good to great to outstanding, and all came with essential BAFs (BAWing debatable). Or... so we thought.

Being near exclusively import only, my shelves are sorely lacking a Matt, Yelena, Kamala, Kate, Monica, Moon Knight, etc but just haven't liked the D+ figures Hasbro have done enough to pick any up.

My movie shelf has a good mix of characters - albeit with a few glaring omissions like War Machine, Vision, Groot, and Drax, and all the aforementioned D+ guys - and I'd like to finish it off but eh. I'm hopeful after the Medicom tease for Matt, Frank, Yelena, and Walker but hell, I/some of us could well be dead before those guys actually hit the stores.

I was afraid I'd missed the boat on grabbing Thing with how unexpectedly popular this movie wave has been, but happened upon one at Target yesterday to add in with his brethren. Makes me want to dig up an old Chiklis Thing figure.

Can't recall the last time I bought an MCU figure. Maybe the first Avengers movie?
