Marvel Cinematic Universe Figure Discussion

I'll take either at this point, but if they definitely do a season two figure, I'm cool waiting. The season two DD may need a new chest though, or is it just painted on?
From the pics we've seen, it's the same suit from BA1, with black paint.

I think the trailer might be the thing that finally gets me to bring out my biggest crowdfunding shame, the un-displayed Galactus, to get some pics of him. I was going to swap out my FF in my office lineup anyway (I've had the original, Walmart-exclusive FF there for ages and should break out some of the newer/better looks) but I've never done anything with the old planet eater because I don't know here to put him.

I lucked out into a free one last year but likewise, haven't opened him yet as I don't have an F4 to go with him. If they're decent enough, I'm totally picking up the upcoming movie F4 and busting that bad boy out at last!

In other news, I've also placed my general aversion to Legends on hold and ordered the Punisher because damn, even I have to admit that figure is fire and I'll likely be dead of old age before Bandai or Medicom ever do him.

I love the Fantastic Four trailer. I wish it was more fun to discuss the movie in general cause it's essentially culture war BS on most social media and a forum I am on, whenever FF comes up it's just a conversation that boils down to them saying why even bother when the IP failed twice, and it's just exhausting. So I don't really have a fun outlet to discuss that movie. Which annoys me, cause it's probably the Marvel film I am most excited for anytime in the near future. I have waited long for a non garbage FF movie. I am still salty about the RDJ Doom thing, but the FF movie is at least divorced from that outside maybe a post credits cameo or something.

I totally feel you. I've more or less stopped frequenting a lot of movie forums because it's just vitriol after vitriol, and at the end of the day, I don't really care about most fan-made controversies, I just want to be entertained. I mentioned it a bit in the MCU movie thread here, but I'm quite excited for the next couple MCU films, and like you, I'm quite hopeful we finally get a good F4 movie (even if I think those first 2 are fun). It's what makes me hopeful we'll also finally get a good Dark Phoenix adaptation down the road- it does seem like these properties are finally in the hands of people who know how to properly do them. And of course, all the lovely, lovely figure potential it brings.

Speaking of F4 old and new, the trailer got me more hyped than ever to see the new figures. Just thinking back to the figures for the first F4 movie all those years ago- I know we probably won't get anything even comparable to those, but man, what fun figures. I had the Reed that came with all the extendable limbs; he was absolutely impossible to stand once you got him all stretched out, but what a fun figure. Something like that would be at least $35-40 these days. From the little tease they showed, it looks like we'll at least get a stretchable arm, but heck, they could do a whole deluxe Reed with lots of limbs if they really wanted to. Same with Johnny- it seems pretty clear we're just gonna get a regular human Johnny with a couple little flame effects, and that's cool, but I'd love to get a full "Flame On" Johnny down the road too. And while I don't need as many variants of Sue as they made before (I had the half-translucent version), at least a swappable hand or foot that's translucent could go a long way for me.

The old FF figures from the movie were great, I agree. In particular I love how the Thing figures turned out. He looked amazing as a toy, and in the movie largely sans the obvious mobility issues it created.

from what I understand there will be six figures released with the four we’ve seen and then a flame on Johnny and a translucent Sue

Makes sense! Ones like that are ones that I think would make good store exclusives- not a version that's imperative to have (for some), but is still available for the folks who want it. As long as they find a way to slot in Silver Surfer, I'm good with that.

Only bad thing about more MCU movies is it means even more characters to add to the already large backlog of unproduced characters.

The four we've seen meaning the four that are fantastic, plus another Johnny and Sue? Or were four figures shown from this movie that I totally missed?
I'm sincerely asking because I was out of town the last couple weeks and wouldn't be shocked if I missed something.

I am hoping if we get 6 figures, one is a Surfer. Don't start doing that not making the villains thing again Hasbro! Easiest way for me to start having less and less interest the more it happens!

I'd prefer a flaming Johnny, and depending on how she looks, a translucent Sue. Or partly translucent.

I would say Flame on Johnny would be one I want. Sue less so, just give me invisible hands or something and maybe an effect piece like a shield. I would prefer Surfer over totally invisible Sue

Well, I'm cool with surfer over two Sues. I only want one, but partly translucent would be my preference.

Nothing has been officially unveiled yet, but Dan posted a teaser photo showing the hands of the Artists Formally Known As The 4 That Are Fantastic. If there are 6 total figures, 2 of them being straight up variants feels a little underwhelming, but you never know.

Even if she's not included in the main wave, I feel pretty confident we'll get Silver Surfer eventually, even if she's just a standalone figure like Shuri was. Maybe Hasbro didn't get her concept art at the same time as the others. But yeah, I hope she doesn't end up another victim of the "Absent Villain" curse. I know there's rumors that Mole Man will make an appearance, and if anything, I'd assume he'd be the one not to get a figure.

I was tinkering with my FF figures last night because of the trailer and can I be boringly positive for a minute? I love that I have three distinct variations of the team that I like, with some options for putting invisi-Sue and fiery Johnny on display or have them de-powered. Like... I just genuinely like all three variations, want to keep them all, and like swapping them out in the display. (Though I think I'm the outlier and I like Johnny mostly not-flame-on but with fire coming off his hands and shoulders. I just like being able to see character faces. Same reason I usually have an unmasked version of a character out if I have an option, like with a Logan or Pete).

And yeah, I'm tired of the culture war with the FF movies. (I had a friend who worked on the one with Miles Teller etc. and he has some hilarious stories about how they were filming for months without a script, but if nothing else I think every modern version has had really interesting/fun casting choices, and that makes them each uniquely interesting to think about). Although I'm tired of the culture war with superhero media in general. I was just telling someone yesterday, because so many people thought the Daredevil writers were psychic in predicting the future rather than just very smart writers reading tone of the (worldwide) room and using that in their storytelling the way great writers do, that I think strange harm has been done to us by so many people only really engaging with the world through the lens of entertainment. Not enough people rawdog reality anymore, and everything turns into a life or death argument about the Fantastic Four, or Daredevil, or (gawd help us all) Last of Us, or Superman, and so on and so on. And I say that as someone who writes entertainment and makes much of my living off it and loves that entertainment offers allegory to help people process and understand the world. Just feels particularly rough lately that so many people don't get past the leap from allegory to understanding, so we're seeing them fight over... a femme-presenting Surfer. (Which I am INTRIGUED to see how it plays out, BTW. The Herald is such a quietly pivotal part of the Marvel pastiche.)

Me, I look at every film version as its own What If or timeline. Been thinking about it that way since Tim Burton's Batman. Like let's be serious - a timeline in which Daredevil ISN'T a ginger? That's a variant. Right? :)
