Marvel Cinematic Universe Figure Discussion

Never done the build-a-figure thing before but I already had the arms, and have a soft spot for Jeffrey Wright so I went hunting around the bargain bins to do this guy on the cheap:

Gonna have him hang out at the back, watching everyone like a creepy big, blue traffic cone.

How much were the shoes and shirt? Money is tight, but I do wish the Thing figure had those

I'm gearing up to do a somewhat sizable MCU figure purge. Keeping one version of every main character, a lot of second and third tier characters are just going to go. I've got my Spider-Man, Iron Man, Dr. Strange, Hulk, Deadpool, and a couple of others locked in. I think the two that are giving me the most trouble are Captain America and Thor.

Worthy Cap is fine but he's a bit on the small side. His blues are a bit too dark. My favorite MCU Cap figure is WWII two pack version with Peggy Carter. He's not even technically wearing a Captain America costume but I may just go with this one.

My favorite version of movie Thor is his depiction in Infinity War but ideally my Thor would have long hair. Dark World Thor is a possibility. And while I hated the movie, the action figure of Love and Thunder Thor has some great color and paint detail, he would definitely pop as opposed to his black and grey looks.

Decisions, decisions.

I kept Worthy Cap and Infinity War Thor, personally. That's, in my opinion, where each one feels the most powerful/has their standout moment. IW Thor could definitely use an upgrade, but he holds up well enough for me.

I keep thinking I should do an MCU purge but really the only characters I over-bought were Cap and Tony. I might have 1-2 more Widows than I truly need but mostly I kept it to one and done.

I do look at the Disney+ figures and get a bit frustrated but only because I think they're REALLY GOOD, but feel disconnected from the rest of the collection. Like I fully ADORE the Hawkeyes, Moon Knight, etc, but they feel a bit detached, y'know?

I know exactly what you mean. Ideally I would keep everything related to phases 1-3, but I have to go with Wandavision Scarlet Witch over the IW two pack. The likeness is just so much better. I also might just have to go with D+ Hawkeye just because it's a better figure all around.

Honestly, D+ Hawkeye is just leaps and bounds better than any version before that. If I were going to keep one I'd keep that one. Occurs to me I should just put Moon Knight with the new DD and Punisher, break out that pretty solid Jessica Jones figure, too, just make my own MCU street level team.

Yes, I am doing just that. New DD and Punisher, Jessica J, which I love, I'm torn on which D+ Moon Knight to keep.

I know that Jessica figure is long in the tooth but the head sculpt has held up remarkably well. They really got Krysten's likeness.

I'm keeping both Moon Knights, but man, if I had to pick one, it'd be the wraps/super-heroic one. Mr. Knight is a bit bendy/wobbly while his mystic-looking suit is just a banger of a figure. (I do like Mr. Knight though, a lot.)

My threshold for when I consider a figure to be "too old" is remarkably high. I don't consider JJ to be "dated" at all. Besides doing pinless (which I don't really care about) I don't know what they could do with her today that would make her better by leaps and bounds. They captured her expression wonderfully, happy to hold on to her.

She's already half-pinless as-is. It's just those dang legs.

Posted this in the Joe thread, but here's GI Joe Classified Wetsuit's definitely-not-Oscar-Isaac-likeness on Mr. Knight for anyone still wanting an unmasked Moon:

Truly my only knock on JJ. But that was that entire era of female figures, the legs warped sooo bad. Hell the reason I just upgraded Enchantress when I don't really dislike the one I have is that the old one is getting bowlegged.

Man Wetsuit really IS Oscar Isaac! That's arguably better than SWBS did with him.

OK, what Black Widow do I go with?

I think the best figure might be her solo movie version, but I think the look might be a bit over designed. I think the best Scar Jo likeness is the quantum suit head, and I have two of those, but I'm not a fan of the hair style. Maybe I try to swap hair with another BW?

Infinity War had the best likeness because of the slight smirk. I've combined that head with the first Avengers release hair for a much better Avengers Widow.

Second-best likeness was the White Suit Widow. The default Movie Widow head looked terrible, but the White one was great. But it's on my Civil War Widow and the ponytail head is on movie Widow.

Dang - the only MCU Widow I have I haven't altered in some way is Infinity War. EDIT: I lied - the re-release Winter Soldier Widow is also unaltered.
