Marvel 1/6 Scale (Mondo, Hot Toys, etc.)

But a whole heckuva lot less in shipping. I'll have to ponder these.

Thanks for the heads-up!

They’re on EE as well for $250, which is essentially the Mondo price plus the Mondo tariff surcharge, but you get free shipping. These are allegedly coming in December so there may not be a lot of change in tariffs between now and then, or there could be. It’s the world we live in so BBTS could come out ahead or more.

I got an email this morning from EE that Spider-Man was finally in-stock. I assumed my order would be converted, but when it wasn't I went to the site and saw he's now backordered. Really curious if the email I got was a glitch and he was never in-stock, or if people were able to buy it this morning and my order was just left unfulfilled. I never have good experiences with EE. I should just cancel the damn thing at this point. If I really want it I can just buy it from Big Bad for only slightly more money.

BBTS is processing Hono Wolverine soon. Feels like this thing has been out for months, but it's arriving now when the last two weeks have been kind of busy. Tariff price change from $189.98 to $192.32.

Not long after I got a response on Spider-Man from EE my order converted from backorder to "Processing." Spider-Man arrived yesterday and after spending the last several months debating on whether or not I should just cancel my order I'm left kind of wishing I had. This is the first Mondo figure to really disappoint me. I don't buy Mondo for articulation, but they made it a point to add more to Spider-Man because he's, well, Spider-Man! There are just some basic poses one expects a Spider-Man to achieve and I can safely say this one basically can't do any of them. The joints in the neck, diaphragm, and waist basically do nothing. They're so snug that they might as well not be there. Also, the right shoulder on my figure is really tight on the hinge to the point where I'm shocked it didn't snap at the bicep on me. I've heated and lubricated it and it's only slightly better than out of the box. And since they went with hinged ball ankles the stability of the figure is rather poor and it's the first one I'm actually utilizing the stand it came with. Paint and such is still top notch so he looks great, he just can't really do much of anything.

I'm of two minds when it comes to Mondo's stuff. If it only looks great just standing there, is it really an action figure? And if I want an "action-figure" shouldn't I just stick to Marvel Legends? They do look nice, but I don't think they are meant to hold non-neutral poses for long. Overall Spidey looks decent but it also looks he's dispensing ranch dressing from his wrist.

I think their approach largely works for X-Men. The was stiff and not exactly dynamically animated. A character like Magneto doesn’t need to do much to look dramatic on the shelf. Even Cyclops looks pretty cool with basic posing. It’s a problem more unique for Spider-Man. Even in that show, he’s crouched a lot or crawling about, all things the toy can’t do. And his web shooting accessories don’t really work in neutral poses, which also hurts. By contrast, that Nightcrawler they’re doing comes with 3 swords to wield. He doesn’t have to do normal Nightcrawler things to look dramatic given that.

Exactly why I bailed on the lines and only kept She Ra.

I like playing.

They're not articulated enough nor do they hold poses long enough for me to buy most of them. The only two I own are Magneto and Cyclops because both characters mostly just stand there.

I wanted Rogue, but until someone makes a sturdy enough stand to put sixth scale figures into a variety of flying poses I really don't want flying characters in that scale. I'm always surprised those stands don't already exist, but I mostly get it. Most of the market is Sideshow high-end figures, and you can't put them into dynamic poses or flying poses because they can get damaged when you do it. Mondo would be fine on a stand, but the market is too tiny to create enough demand for better stands.

Not that there aren't ANY stands to pose sixth scale figures on. I have several, but they're all not as strong as they need to be for figures that large. You can get some dynamic flying poses, but not many and the ones you can get usually have some challenging balance issues because the base isn't heavy enough to counterbalance the weight of the figure.

I think Nostalgia Unboxed found a stand for posing, though I could be mistaken. He did do a Rogue review so it would probably be in that, or even in the video’s comments. I have the version of Rogue that came with the Sentinel base so I’m content with that, but I definitely want a flight stand for Storm. Hopefully the new Mondo stand is decent, but I’m skeptical.

I watched his review and he shows her on an articulated stand at the 10:43 mark. He says it's a Play Arts Kai stand but provides no other info nor a link in the review comments. I searched around for that but haven't found it yet so if anyone knows how to get the stand he's referring to please do share.

Play Arts Kai? Those must be packed with the figures. They're a weird scale, maybe 1/9?

There were stands with bendable supports. I don't think they were very popular and I'm not sure if anything like it is still being made.

I have several of those, and they're the ones I mentioned are difficult to counterbalance the figure's weight against the base. I mostly use them for the larger 1:12 figures like Hulk.

They mostly tip over for flight poses on sixth scale figures unless you get the angle just right, and even then they're too easy to tip with any jostling. I tried getting ANY flight poses with Mondo Magneto on those but I just couldn't do it since that cape is so heavy. Been a while since I tried so I might give that another go.
