I held off on making a thread for the Mondo stuff until there was something to talk about and now there is: https://mondoshop.com/blogs/news/x-men-97-nightcrawler-1-6-scale-figure-on-sale-info

Nightcrawler from X-Men '97 (with additional portraits for '92 and Pryde of the X-Men) goes up for sale tomorrow and is limited to 1,000 pieces. Ordinarily, Nightcrawler would be viewed as pretty popular and that 1,000 units would not last that long. However, this is the first release in the line since tariffs went into effect and Mondo responded by saying future preorders would be subject to a tariff surcharge. With word coming out that the number has moved down from the astronomical 145% to the still crushing 30% number there's no telling what impact it will have. Other items have seemingly been assessed a 20% fee - will Nightcrawler be subject to the same or less? I don't know right now and I'm not sure if Mondo has said anything. Also of note, the page doesn't mention anything about the usual free shipping for North American buyers which could definitely suck. And since this is a limited edition, don't expect to see it offered anywhere else.

I'm honestly not sure what I'll do when this goes up tomorrow. I've ordered all of the figures in this line so far except the variants. I'd love to add this Nightcrawler to the group, but since he was not a core member of the '92 team I could conceivably pass on him if the price is just too high. These figures, for me, are already at about the max that I'm willing to pay so a 20% charge plus a hefty shipping fee might force me to the sideline.

EDIT: so he's up and the breakdown (for me) was: $245 for Nightcrawler, $20 tariff charge, $31.95 for shipping, $16.56 in sales tax, for a total of $313.51. I know it's easier said than done, but I wish they'd put this line on pause until this stuff calms down. That's over $50 in fees related to the current climate (I'm including the shipping) on an already very expensive item. No surprise that it hasn't sold out.

That's too much. I hope they will include the BAMF base in the eventual regular edition. It's already sculpted.

He did end up selling out by the end of the night. Would've been a five-minute sell-out without the extra fees.

But yeah, I agree that I would hope this gives Mondo pause at keeping up the release speed they were doing before the tariffs. They were basically releasing one figure a week between the various licenses and scales. I collect the X-Men, Batman, Spider-Man, and Real Ghost Busters lines, and it ended up being about one figure a month if you averaged out the whole year, but at times it was like back-to-back weeks.

I did end up buying Nightcrawler but canceled some other pre-orders for the Marvel Legends Spider-Man to make up the extra fees. I'm not an especially price-conscious collector, but when the price of every collector item is going up at once after already going up 30-50% in the last few years, I'm starting to have to cut back. My logic is that it's likely that any ML figures will be on sale on Amazon around Christmas, whereas the Mondo stuff is truly limited.

I ended up not getting him. It occurred to me that I could have cancelled my Mondo Spider-Man preorder that I've had since last year with EE to partially cover it, but by then the figure was gone. I don't know that I still would have done it. I preordered a Switch 2, bought some Disney Lego castle for my wife, and Lego just announced a new Simpsons set for next month. Plus I just got back from NYC where the price of a hotel room for one night was almost as much as 1 Nightcrawler, not to mention my other expenses, so it just didn't seem particularly responsible in this instance. $245 is already at the upper end for what I want to pay for this line. With free shipping, I could talk myself into the luxury, but once you're hitting that $300 number then I just can't get myself to pull the trigger. I may just have to be very picky with this line. I want the rest of the 92 cast and I'll probably hold my nose and buy them at inflated prices, but the ancillary characters may have to go.

Wow, I don't know if this line can survive at those levels. Nightcrawler did eventually sell out, though I think he's a great deal more popular than Carnage. My list of "must haves" may have to shrink to just Beast, Storm, Jean, and Morph. I was planning on going for Sinister, but I fear he'll be way too pricey.

Yeah, I would think they'll be finding out the price elasticity of demand for the 1/6 lines at $350 for normal-sized characters. Sinister would easily be $400 with this unless they're baking in the tariff figure with the sticker price and/or will resume free shipping. Even for collectors of high-end figures with lots of disposal income, are these figures really worth four Mafex figures? Or at least two whole BAF waves of Marvel Legends?

I would think 300 is pretty damn high for most, but I guess we'll see. And I just don't know if the interest is there for Spider-Man. I think X-Men has more fans and might be able to get away with some of this stuff, but is animated Carnage anyone's favorite version of that character? Granted, the figure looks great. If we were still down in the $220-230 I'd probably be tempted. I don't know if I'd ultimately give in, but it's a nonstarter now. I'm very curious to see how the solicitation goes tomorrow and if the free shipping is back (probably not). That would really help, even if it means they're basically charging us the same price they used to, but baking in a 30-40 shipping fee. Also real curious to see what the RGB Winston looks like. They teased him over the weekend so I'm guessing that's going up this week as well. That's a line with a fixed price that has also had free shipping and I'll be interested in seeing if there's a change in approach.

Looks like Mondo is experiencing a lot of delays. I got an email earlier that the Real Ghostbusters Venkman was getting bumped from June to August and now I just got an email that Wolverine has been bumped all the way to October (I think he was previously scheduled for August). I'm guessing they've had to redo a lot of the logistics around how they ship and deliver product to consumers thanks to the uncertain tariff situation. I wonder if that will mean Wolverine is the only other figure int he X-Men line to actually see release this year?

Actually the Wolverine that has been bumped was the tigerstripe variant that was expected this month that comes with the sentinel base. The wonder con exclusive in the brown and tan costume is expected for August and is still on track to come out for that month

Carnage shows up for me as $303 total vs. $313 for Nightcrawler. The cost difference is entirely due to shipping -- $32 with Nightcrawler vs. $22 with Carnage. Both domestic standard shipping. Mondo lowered the sticker price to $245 from $285 from what it was originally in the listing when they posted yesterday.

I saw that, still too rich for me. I wonder if they meant to state that $285 was an all-in price with tariff and shipping? Or they decided it works better from a perception standpoint to price the figure itself as low as they can go before all of the extra fees are added? Either way, 300 bucks is still more than I've paid for any of these by quite a bit.

Yeah I confirmed My order without even thinking. I need to reserve funds for these gamerverse packs so I’m kind of locked in at the moment so I’ll have to pass on this one

So I saw the D23 Rogue had been put back up in limited quantites and decided to give it a shot. The figure is really pretty with smooth joints, but her ankles really needed detents and to be firmer. Trying to put her on the Sentinal base and she keeps leaning this way or that way. Again, very well done visually, but this is not a line I'll go further in, with the exception of if they made a comic book Gambit painted to match her style (no cel shading).
