MAFEX DC Figures

The only reason I didn't pull the trigger on Hush Superman is that he doesn't have a smiling head. It makes sense story wise, but I need a smiling head for my Superman.

I always think this, but then I look back and my Superman never smiled.

For Mafex Hush, it makes sense, those heads are ripped from his pages in the book.

But often I think, I really need a smiling Superman. Granted, McFarlane gave me one. But I look back at Fleischer, STAS. Maybe a smirk. Usually a stone serious pulp hero face. Even the old black and white show I used to watch on Nick at Nite.

80s and 90s comics of my youth? Nope. Usually serious.

Is it just Superfriends or years of SuperDickery cover galleries that instilled this in me? Whenever I think he should be smiling, all my sources tell me otherwise. Not knocking you, this topic comes up a lot for me.

I didn't get HUSH Superman because I imagine them doing a "standard" Superman for the Reign of Supermen line with alternate regular and mullet haircuts.

I have Hush, but also assumed this was a lock.

Have they done any comic or animation characters that new yet, or any animated characters at all? Reign of Supermen is an animated film from 2019 isn't it? I'm not that familiar with it.

I'm not clear on when Western superheroes made it into Japanese culture, but I've been assuming it was in the 1990s and 2000s starting from when Capcom released the X-Men arcade game in 1994 and its sequels (X-Men vs Street Fighter, Marvel vs Capcom, etc). Most of Medicom's character choices for figures have been heavily tied to 1990s stories and art. Most of their X-Men reference art seems to have been the Capcom art with multiple obvious exceptions such as the Age of Apocalypse characters they've done.

I'm also unclear on how many American stories from comics get translated to Japanese. I know the great majority of Japanese people don't speak English--it's something like 1 in 4--so I'm never sure how wide their reach goes across the history of Western superhero stories. I'm sure Reign of Supermen was translated to Japanese though, so it's possible they will tackle that, except that I can't think of them doing anything that new that wasn't from a DC or Marvel live action film.

I was referring to the comic book storyline that followed Death of Superman, the one with the four imposter Supermen. If it's not officially called Reign of Supermen, my bad, but I'm pretty sure that's the name of the comic storyline as well. Never saw the animated version.

A standard 90s Superman seems like the most obvious move in the world once they've made it through the variants + Doomsday. Gotta get my mullet Supes.

I received my Hush Supes yesterday. What a great figure. Definitely down for a death of Superman Supes (and a MAFEX Doomsday would rock but I won’t hold my breath).

Yeah, Reign was the name of the arc after Death. Had a banner over each title.

They showed the unpainted prototype last year, he's probably gonna show up before Colossus, Hulk or any other big dudes do.

I would just like to say that their Recovery Suit Supes doesn't get enough love. He has the mullet, and jet boot legs you can swap in to replace the regular ones with!

Oh nice- I completely missed that. This is the only image I can find.

Would love to see Mafex tackle a bunch of oversized figures. The ones you mentioned, as well as Darkseid would be great candidates.

On the DC side, this month's reveal is a ZS Supes in the trad colours this time. Comes with a smiling head and 3 heat vision ones, plus a Cyclops style beam effect.

(the other reveal is Shurri in her BP suit)
