Longbox Heroes 1/12 Scale

I’m pretty sure Disney acquired all of that stuff over 20 years ago. They’re the owns that own the cartoon.

That may be correct... although multiple online sources still say the characters are property of Saban in present tense. But BV/Disney ownership makes sense.

Either way, Edlund doesn't have the rights to them and likely isn't going to try to get them back if he hasn't already.

It seems more likely that eventually either Edlund or his heirs will sell the property to Disney.

That’s a shame if true. Cartoon Arthur was always a better design than comic one.
Did Arthur's design change a lot during Edlund's run? Back when the cartoon originally aired, I vaguely remember being surprised how different he looked in images I saw of him from the comic. My Googling now just brings up images that look pretty similar to the cartoon.

I'm curious if the designs in Edlund's run evolved to look more similar to the cartoon. It seems like newer series of the comics match the style of the cartoon. Since the bbts description of the Tick figure highlights Edlund, I assume they will match his designs. I should read some of the Edlund comics.

I’m no lawyer, but I don’t think there’s anything about the animated Arthur design that’s legally distinct from the comic. Edlund created the character and is responsible for the general look and design. Unless they have really skittish lawyers, they can probably do as Edlund wishes for the design of the figure. It’s the characters specifically created for the show that raise real questions.

Agreed. Arthur as he appeared in the two live action shows was pretty close to rhe animated look - Edlund owns Arthur and his moth costume outright. The problem is with characters created for the cartoon - Edlund didnt protect his ownership of those so they became property of Saban.

Toon characters not owned by Edlund include

Die Fledermaus
American Maid
Sewer Urchin
Human Bullet
Crusading Chameleon
El Seed
Pineapple Pokopo
Speak the Capybara
Brainchild
Angry Red Herring
the Deadly Bulb
Dyna Mole
Evil Bomber What Bombs at Midnight
The Human Ton (and Handy)

and others...

Man, that list is a bummer if those characters can't get figures because I would buy every one of them. Hopefully, The Tick, Barry, and Chairface sales are high enough for FMF to pursue the license to the cartoon characters. I'd at least like Die Fledermaus, American Maid, Sewer Urchin, and Midnight Bomber.

I'm not seeing much difference in early comic Arthur from Google searches aside from being wider/pudgier. Anyone got a link? And I'm assuming Sarcastro is going to fall into the "can't do" bucket which is too bad. His power was amazing.

Are the Tick figures cartoon or comic based. Grew up on the cartoon, but I recall the comic was a little different cast and tone wise?

It seems so far the aesthetic hews pretty close to the cartoon look for Tick and Chairface. But since they can't do so many of the Toon only characters it remains to be seen. For characters like Arthur and the Terror they should probably be pretty close to cartoon aesthetic I'd imagine.

Currently laughing to myself at remembering that the Human Ton and Handy exist.

Looks like it's time for a Tick rewatch.

I wish we could get a re-release of the Region 1 Tick with the missing episodes included. Even when the show was streaming on Hulu they left those episodes out.
