Last Game You Played

@TheSameIdiot did you find you skipped a bunch in Expedition 33? I'm not far into the game, but I'm finding the map confusing at best and I'm pretty clearly being led around. I think I found one area that I haven't gone in because it said "Danger"
I was exploring every nook and cranny in the first third of the game. I fell out of love with the game in the second third (basically from the end of the first continent to Act 3). I found it repetitive and overly silly. From there, I mainlined the game. Usually, I think that would be a mistake, but it actually worked to my advantage in E33. The ending recontextualized the tone. Best of all, after the endgame, they remove the training wheels from the combat system, and overland travel becomes easier and faster. You can still get lost in the dungeon areas, but not when trekking between them.

I picked up Borderlands 4 on a whim. Can't believe it's been six years since the last.

I'm not as fan of Borderlands as Franchise, more a fan of Games I Can Make Builds On and Loot Farm While I Listen to Audiobooks, and on that front, they delivered.

One seamless world. Destiny Warlock glide. Destiny speeder bike. New four character/classes have intriguing talent trees. I went with Vex, the witch who can summon a cat, clone herself, or just go Dark Phoenix Avatar mode, and I can't even decide, which is rare for me. And within those 3, even then I see potential for how you'd do it once the loot and keywords flow.

Very much a fan of If, Then power creep abuse.

Tutorial was strange in that it had a different tone and didn't give you any of the Borderlands Stuff you'd expect - namely powers. But it's skippable once you do it once, which is great for rerolls and coop.

It did feel kind of weird to play the game Thursday at midnight drop, given Thursday, when one of the first lines for comedic effect is "Murder solves every problem!". And for a moment I felt kind of weird, for the first time ever in my gaming life, that I was running around unloading endless rounds into endless bodies that gib and splatter and shatter and ragdoll like an undead burlesque dancer. But I got over it, because it's all alienrobots and weird ass sci fi toys.

One of the other classes is a Metal Gear Ninja dude who wears turrets on his shoulders that you can customize how you want to... I dunno. Wear turrets as fashion in an endless rain of meatbags.

For toys, Todd did make BL3 figures, but given ELITE lines, I would be the one person on this board who might pay Elite prices to Todd for my Sanitized Alt Girl Witch and her cat, or Turret Ninja. Or Jada can do it, IDGAF.

I'm pretty excited about Borderlands 4. I haven't really been a big fan of the franchise since the first game (which I absolutely loved). I dig the silliness and crazy weapons and just generally a game that does not take itself seriously at all. I think Borderlands is basically the only FPS that I actually like. Probably won't be playing this one for quite some time yet, though.

I put nearly 17 more hours into Expedition 33. I closed the game for the final time at about 45.5 hours. I don't think my expanded playthrough changed my evaluation of the game, but I do think the endgame/level 60-85 stuff is more fun than the rest. Doing pornographic amounts of damage with Maelle pleases my dopamine receptors.

The only drawback is that the hardest optional boss in the game, Simon, is a bullshit artist. I was a tad underleveled when I tried to fight him, first at level 85, then 90. It seems like you should be level 95, and better yet, 99. I wasn't going to grind for another three or four hours for a better shot at beating him. I failed to accomplish the last thing I set out to do, which left a sour taste in my mouth.

Still, E33 got me to put another 17 hours in after I rolled credits. That probably hasn't happened since I was in high school.

I game a lot, but it's like the same 10 games endlessly, mostly Madden and RDR2 lately (I've been playing RDR2 since it came out and will be playing until RDR3 comes out). Anyway, if the upcoming Wolverine game is as good as it looks, I'll be playing a lot of this at the end of 2026 and into 2027.

I love the SM games, and I'm SO excited about this Wolverine game. My only concern is a lot of early footage has the camera REALLY close, and I fucking hate that trend in modern games. I despise barely being able to see what's going on around me because the camera is 2 feet away from the character's right shoulder (looking at you, God of War). I'm hoping they pull that back and it's more like Spider-Man.

Same. I always play from the furthest 3rd person view I can when possible.

So I started playing through Metal Gear Delta this weekend. Basically a 1-to-1 translation of the original MGS3 with updated looks and controls. While I do like a soft reinterpretation (a la the Resident Evil 2 remake) I think in this case specifically it was the right way to go. There's no way Konami could muck with arguably Kojima's finest moment in gaming without something going awry.

Anyway, it's just straight from the tap nostalgia. It's still great and weird in all the ways you remember. It's just prettier now. Having a great time with it.
