HIYA TOYS Godzilla

I just realized that GameStop of all places sells Hiya Godzilla figures. Man that would make things so much easier knowing I can pick these up in store at a local GameStop vs having to buy online and fret over shipping and import fees. Freaking game changer

Wild. I wonder how reliable they'd be as far as getting these in and fulfilling pre-orders...

Well according to the Hiya Collectors facebook group, someone from that community just strolled into his local GameStop and saw the 2019 Rodan figure there on the shelf

They definitely sell the stuff on their site, I see. Pricing is probably pretty comparable to what BBTS charges with their tariff surcharge, and free shipping after $59. They have pretty specific release dates listed too, I might have to keep an eye on those and see if they hit them.

Me too. And I hope this partnership with GameStop and Hiya carries on because GameStop is becoming one of the few bastions where I can find my stuff be it from McFarlane toys or the occasional Marvel Legends . If Hiya ends up being the new hotness this year thanks to these Toho classic Godzilla toys then GameStop is where I will be doing most of my toy shopping from here on in. They might just pull themselves out of bankruptcy if enough collectors feel the same when it comes to the glut of toys they sell these day and so many one off/smaller companies and brands too

So, while I feel like this is a problem I'm going to ultimately fudge and forget about, I'm suddenly very interested in trying to find scale appropriate stuff to go with my Heat Ray Hokkaido. So in the movie he's from he's around 328 ft tall. This makes the figure just over 1/560 scale. I think a 1/500 building is close enough as I'm using this Godzilla as my Heisei era general stand-in. So everything from Return of Godzilla through Spacegodzilla. He ranges quite a bit in height over that period so should look just about right.

I also picked up a Super X Gashapon that's 1 inch long, making it roughly 1/1000 scale if what the internet tells me is true that the Super X is 88 ft. But then I look at this still from Return of Godzilla (Godzilla is supposed to be 260 ish ft here) and I just don't buy that the Super X stood on its nose is 1/3 as tall as the big guy. The Super X seems more in the foreground and seems like if it were in the same plane as G it would be closer to 1/4 or 1/5 as tall if stood on its end.

Anyway, this is all to circle back to me saying "whatever" and just fudging it. I'll get some 1/500 scale buildings and call it a day. But uggh, scale models, why must I obsess over this?

I:500 is kind of of an awkward scale for model making companies but the good news is that the Hokkaido Godzilla stands at roughly 7.9” tall at his full height, which brings him closer to 20 cm which is 1:350th scale and that is far more common for model companies to make compatible pieces. I recommend this ebayer gojifxunlimited who sells low cost cityscapes and encourages people to buy in bulk. I just purchased up to 56 buildings for $340 which is quite a steal. He even offers bonus pieces for people who purchase large lots

Hmm, I was looking at the listing and videos and they seemed to have him just a smidge over 7"

I will say that ebay seller does look good and Ive seen some others that have similar output and deals I might go for. I also found a company called MyCity that sells what seem to be injection molded building kits at 1/300 scale on Amazon for reasonable prices. 3d printed stuff looks cool but I work around 3d printers all day so my eyes go right to the artifacts of that manufacturing process. I guess at the end of the day the question is how finnicky do I want to be about scale? And I don't know at this stage.

The super X set sounds fun but just be aware that technically from a canonical standpoint. The 1991 Godzilla never faced off against the Super-X due to the whole time travel thing. It’s not the same Godzilla that attacked in 84 because that was the Godzilla that got blasted with radioactivity on Lagos island in 1944 had the futurians not intervened and then it would have gone on to destroy Tokyo in the 50’s and again in the 80’s.

Due to the futurians involvement, the Godzillasaurus was moved from Lagos Island to another corner of the South China Sea, where it was spared from the initial blast of radiation after world war 2 but bathed in deposits of radioactive material thanks to illegal dumping of nuclear waste so a second Godzilla (or technically 3rd) was born and its first appearance was in 1991

In other news though I got my Godzilla 91 figure yesterday and I love this guy. But I did feel the need to touch up the paint to make it look more film accurate so I restored the dusty browns on his body in a faint dry brushing and darkened the eyes so they are more of that hazelnut/walnut brown color. Gotta say I love this figure through. The sculpt is and likeness is on point and the articulation is perfect. I haven’t had a single joint fall off on me once. And the articulation in the tail!! Omg the engineering in this tail is marvelous!! I think full stop I’m dropping SHMA and I’m sticking with Hiya from here on in

Thanks to these pics, I put a preorder in for this guy. That's MY Godzilla look right there.

Yeah it’s really the best design. For the last 10 years I’ve owned the X-Plus version of this suit from the Yuji Sakai collection and it’s my most coveted piece. I’ve been wanting a figure of this design since I first saw Godzilla vs King Ghidorah in 1999. And I was content with the X-Plus but the fact that it’s now an action figure that I can hold in the palm of my hand and it has incredible detail and articulation is just everything I ever wanted. I haven’t played this hard with a Godzilla figure since the Trendmasters line

So as promised I made a Dark Horse Comics variant of this Godzilla. I like this execution better than the Super7 version because I was never a fan of the coloring on that figure. The greens were far too bright and in most of the interior art, Godzilla’s coloring is far more reserved. He’s more of a conifer green rather than a eucalyptus green. And while it’s kind of subtle it’s two toned with his head, arms, flanks and the sides of his tail being darker green and the belly and neck are more of a grayish green with some subtle black washing for added detail. Hope you guys like the outcome. I’ll post some comparisons with the dark horse art later. Right now I need to give my hands a rest and soak them in some warm water

I just received my notification from INS hobby that my replacement 1991 Godzilla heads with the corrected eyes have shipped. They look incredible can’t wait to see what they look like in person.
