General Toy Nostalgia

Do people hate it because it's not, like, the full Star Destroyer? Because I have no clue how you make that thing to anything approximating scale, and they already made a Death Star. I just think of it as a playset of the ship's bridge. A bit superfluous but the level of detail is pretty nice for the era.
I think some adult collectors overthink it too much because it compacts two scenes/locations into a playset and then they can't wrap their head around the thought of it also being a vehicle.

I should know better by now than to ever, ever, EVER take Mattel at face value.

Not sure if there are other Hot Wheels collectors here but I bought two of the 'random' Car Culture sets they posted the other day, based on the above text from their website. These are usually a hot commodity, as the chases are a PITA to find in the wild. These were listed at 162.00 per set. I ordered two, hoping to maybe get sets 2/4 and 3/4 as those have the cars I'm currently most in search of, and 4/4 seemed unlikely since those sets really haven't been released yet.

As far as we collectors can tell, they sent LITERALLY EVERY SINGLE PERSON who ordered these set 1/4, multiples of it, no matter how many you ordered. Now, the chases in that set are still great, but I already have those two.

Can I sell them on ebay and make most of my money back? Yes.

Is Mattel still a shit company for pulling this kind of nonsense? Also yes.

Fuck Mattel.

This is a fun thread. I'm only about halfway in, but I thought I'd chime in.

I had plenty of Lego growing up, but I enjoyed other building toys like Lincoln Logs, and in particular, Construx. I hade a space set I really enjoyed. Don't know if it's been covered in the thread, but they're cubic beams that are connected by cubes with pegs on each side. Panels and windows/windshields filled out the spaces between the skeletal structures you could make with the beams and cubes.

I was mostly into mainstream lines, so most of the peripheral stuff I didn't collect or received as random birthday presents have long been forgotten. I was big into after school cartoons, and besides stuff like MotU, GI Joe, Transformers, Voltron, Thundercats, TMNT, Real Ghostbusters, there were shows I started watching once I was starting to age out of collecting toys. One show was COPS, which I've discussed in its own thread. But the other I loved was Bionic Six. Family of six with a couple adopted kids all having bionic powers. I was always really curious about the figures and how they could automatically get into the pose that activated their bionic powers. At least that what I remember from the commercials, and what I was led to believe from those commercials. I don't think I've ever even seen these figures in person.

I remember an endcap at our local Shopko of Bionic Six toys. They had that sweet van that could deploy a 4 wheeler.

I think I had that van. I definitely remember the motorcycle and 4 wheeler.

Going through stuff for the toy show I'm doing in about 3 weeks, I came across my old Galoob Xpanders tank and truck. Amazingly, the mechanisms still work pretty well for being as old as they are.

These would've been my younger brother's Bionic Six. A large portion of the figures are die-cast, like the torsos. Limbs are mostly plastic. The clear plastic may be a reason why the guy on the right has a broken elbow? They fit in the 3.75 - 4" size but they also had some height variation.

L to R, Bunki, Eric, and JD.

JD has a chunk of his elbow missing.

So it WAS just an illusion of the commercial that these could automatically move their arms so their hand could activate their "bionics on" by touching the wrist of their opposite hand... They were just standard action figures. Good to know. I'm trying to remember their codenames... Dad was Bionic One, Mom was Mother One, the jock was Sport One, the girl was Rock One, the Asian kid was Karate One, and the black kid was High Q? The cardbacks list their regular names.

I barely remember the villains in the show, and often confuse them with the Crooks from COPS.

I was checking out pics to see what type of accessories they had. JD has a blue fedora that I'm hoping I have mixed in my accessories boxes.

My first Daredevil, I don't know where or how I got it, but it's something I've always had. Google says it's 1967 Marx, so from before I was born. Maybe it was my older cousin's? Since Mego skipped DD, his next figure/figurine may have been Secret Wars?

Like my Secret Wars DD, this guy looks like he developed a bad skin condition. For some reason, I think he resembles Kelsey Grammer.

I picked up a nice, clean Jedi Luke today, the molded flesh variant which looks a lot nicer than the more common one with painted on flesh. He's got the snap-on cloak and lightsaber too! He didn't have his blaster, but I have a repro of that one. Really like the look of my Jabba display. I now have a brown hair variant for my farm boy, Bespin, and Jedi Lukes, which was one of my goals for the vintage line.

I usually have 75% of my vintage MOTU stuff boxed up, displaying Castle Grayskull, He-Man, Skeletor, and a couple of other choice characters. But movie hype made me want to take them all out and let the breathe. This is my entire MOTU collection (with special guest stars) set to the theme of the new movie. I don't usually (ever) take videos and set them to music, I just taught myself how to do this last night. Hooray, summer break!

Summer break?? My school doesn't let out til 6/24...

Those pieces are in REALLY good condition. All original vintage? Restored? Reissued?

Our last day was yesterday. Occasionally I will get the, "June 2? Wow, that's late." Comment. No, no, it really is pretty early.

They are all vintage except for the couple of Origins, Chronicles, and Super 7 figures sprinkled in throughout. No reissues. I've replaced the leg bands on a good number of them, some are still standing nicely with no help after 40 years. Randor's crown and staff and Adam's belt are repros. Some have needed a nice washing with Dawn dish soap and a soft head toothbrush (which is a very therapeutic activity for me), otherwise no heavy restorations done. Half of it is from childhood, half was acquired as an adult. I'm not a HUGE MOTU guy which is why most of this stuff is usually boxed up, but I have an affection for these figures and they are fun to revisit every so often.

I did a big restoration on my vintage MotU collection this year, replacing bands, hunting down weapons and accessories. Even filled some gaps of figures I didn't have growing up. Yours look pristine, at least on cursory view from the video.

NJ/east coast usually lets out mid June. 24th is pretty late for us, but they've added things like Eid and Juneteenth to the calendar, so we get off for those days. So much of it is a waste of time, especially after AP testing is finished. The students are already so checked out, it's painful to think we still have 2-3 weeks left.

Florida is the only place I know that lets students out before June. My high school graduation was in the middle of May.
