General Marvel Legends

This is the Tomb Raider figure I wanted for 30 years. Its so well executed.
You and everyone else! I had the SOTA movie figures back in the day... but I really wanted a good articulated game version. I just looked at what the SOTA figures go for and and dang... seems like some pent-up angst for some decent Tomb Raider figures must be out there if the those old figures can command prices of $100+

That's why it's the stupidest possible exclusive. 2010 level stupid. There will be people that will argue she doesn't have the mainstream appeal she used to, appearing in men's magazines and whatever, but she is an icon and she's still relevant with two new games coming out within the year.

They better have some sort of mainstream release plan even if it's a different look. People I know that don't collect toys are now aware of this and asking me how to get it.

I bought that “flipping” Beast at a comic shop at a steep markup that would be deep clearance for a Marvel Legend today.
I think I paid $10 for the Spider-Man 94 series Venom II with the removable mask at a comic book store. Could not find him at TRU where it would have cost me half that. I contemplated going back for the symbiote Spider-Man they had from the same line, but thankfully he had a figure ruining action feature. I can't recall ever seeing that Venom at TRU after that though so it ended up being money well spent because that was my favorite Venom for the rest of my childhood (which, by then, I would have already been in middle school but the childhood of the toy obsessed extends longer than most).

I can't remember the last time I was as excited for a Marvel Legend as I am for that new Classified Lara Croft. There have been so many versions of Spider-Man and Wolverine released that are good but maybe not good enough to really stand apart to me. I was pretty excited about Gamerverse Wolverine, but it ended up being kinda massive.

This is the Tomb Raider figure I wanted for 30 years. Its so well executed. I've gotten pretty great Spider-Men and Wolverines over the years, its tough to release a new one that truly, truly stands out. Is that a good or bad thing?

This whole day has made me look at the Legends I'm getting and what truly makes me excited over them. There are red and blue Spider-Men I would be excited to get, but nothing that would be a huge game changer. Maximum Spider-Man was... I don't know. It was okay - price not withstanding... it didnt feel like the revelation is was probably intended to be.
What truly makes me excited for ANY figure is when the company put every single contemporary action figure making tool to use to give us the absolute best thing that can be made today. It's rare but it happens on occasion. See Jada Street Fighter, see MOTU Chronicles. They MAY have done that with Laura Croft too....I haven't looked super closely at her, but if they did, great!

I think this is rarely, if ever done with Marvel Legends (and McFarlane DC is in the exact same boat). Even with their BEST offerings, there is some sort of omission, some tiny kernel that makes it not all the way there. You end up with something "good enough for now" but you are excited to see them fix that the next time around. Problem is when they do fix that the next time around, a completely different thing will be either omitted or left as sub-par. I am not anticipating the next Chun-Li figure, because I feel I have the best Chun-Li for the price point, nothing is lacking. I don't know if I can say that about a Spider-Man or Wolverine or Batman figure.

The only counter may be the made-to-order stuff, but then again, we're paying such a premium that those figures should be the best they can be. I'm not sure on Mephisto, but that Apocalypse looks like it's completely new with a lot of the engineering most people have been asking Hasbro for. Of course, it's also a $100 Marvel Legends figure that's just a bit bigger than normal and I don't think that's what we want to be paying on the regular for exciting new figures.

I just woke up to an email that my Mephisto is ready to go but they "ran into a problem" my credit card and might cancel my order if I don't resolve the issue - the same credit card I used on Hasbro Pulse last month.
There is nothing wrong with my card.
Lame.

That sucks. Hopefully they fix it. I feel like there were some similar stories with last year's sentinel around here.

That was a pretty hefty markup though when you consider those figures were retailing for like $6 at the big box stores.
But that TB LoTR line was really fun and for the most part inexpensive. Alas it was a line I decided just wasn't "core" for me to keep and I eventually sold them all off... though I think I still have the electronic Tree Beard around here some where.
Yeah, it's crazy to think how little (comparatively) I spent on such a large LotR collection. The Isildur markup was horrible at the time, and it's so funny to me now thinking of just how angry I was at the IDEA of a 20 dollar retail action figure, when today a run-of-the-mill retail figure is anywhere from 30-40 dollars here.

I received the same email yesterday afternoon. I used the same card that I’ve been using for a couple of years. There shouldn’t have been any problem. Once I got home I called Customer Service - an approximate 15 minute wait took 40 but I’ll be damned if I was gonna have this order cancelled. I’ve been hoping for a Mephisto since the dawn of Marvel Legends. Anyway - I got the issue resolved. The CS Rep said all was good and the next email I get will be a shipping notice. This morning I checked with the bank and the transaction was pending.
I hope everyone who got one of their bogus-ass notices good luck.

I had to pay comic shop scalp prices for the Mara Jade and Dark Empire and Dark Forces POTF2 stuff. $20 a piece, I believe.

I never regretted it because I never saw them in the wild ever. I've rarely even seen them at Toy shows decades later.

This is where ML is really multiple lines in a trenchcoat in my view.

Going forward I want and expect exactly what you're describing for any A-lister or other prominent character/look they've already done. I'm not interested in buying another "almost there" classic Cap, Jim Lee Cyclops, Venom, etc. I will *happily* pony up for a version of those characters/looks that meets the standard set by the Jadas of the world for modern action figures. That means dedicated sculping, proper modern articulation schemes, accessories, the lot. Gamerverse Wolverine, while too big, is one figure from the last year I haven't put down because he's got most of that, and he's just fun to mess with, and he's so good that I'm not fussed that he's like the 10th tiger stripe Wolverine I own.

I *also* want every obscure weirdo we can possibly get, and on those I'm more interested in character selection instead of every figure being a marvel of modern action figure engineering. I don't expect Hypno-Hustler or Feral to get the same amount of love as Iron Man or Thor. Of course, I don't want the bare minimum - and I don't think that's what we've been getting for the most part. Feral is probably the lowest effort new character they've done in recent memory, but most of the obscure newbie weirdos have been really well done, including dedicated sculpts and accessory counts.

But what would really help would be if ML just raised their own bar to what has become the action figure baseline. Proper torso, shoulder, and neck articulation just *needs* to become standard across the board. I don't care if a Vulcan buck gets reused for two dozen different z-listers, but if that body had more modern articulation it would really change what the baseline value of the line feels like. That, plus some standardization on accessories - it's crazy to me that they'll cheap out on (for example) an extra pair of hands for Scorpion, when including that alongside everything else in the package makes him feel that much closer to more premium (and WAY more expensive) lines. Really feels like they're saving pennies to lose pounds when they do these tiny cost-saving moves that impact the overall value perception in negative ways.

For the record, I don't think ML rarely gets it right - the last few years especially have seen plenty of great releases, including a long list of obscure characters I'm thrilled to get and have been made extremely well. I would just really love for them to move what feels like a very short distance to meet where the other, better companies are at, and have that much better figures to show for it.

Most I ever paid was $70 for that Black Widow from the Bucky 2 pack. Those were the Dark Times, but that Widow was a thing of beauty back then.

When I lived in San Jose CA, I recall looking for current issue of FF... it had been out a week and the comic shop I normally went to was sold out... so I went to another shop across town and they had already (in one week) moved it to a back issue bin and marked it up for 2x... The shop owner was actually offended that I made him dig it out and then refused to pay that! I went to a 3rd shop and got it for retail and never went back to that price gauging place.

I had the same issue, today. My cc expired this last February, and it's been a pain in the &** to get all the previous orders up-to-date. Problem with my account is I am unable to delete the old credit card from my Account Payment Methods and every time I place a new order I have to make sure I don't select the expired card. Hope you are able to get this corrected.
