General Marvel Legends

I know I'm in the minority, but I actually liked the Mandarin when he was in a suit. He looked cool as a "crime boss", and I thought it was a good update to the character. That being said, I'd have also liked him in his Acts of Vengeance armor as well.

My biggest disappointment with this Mandarin is his height. Once again using the suited body, he's too short. I feel like he should be taller. Like, maybe if they'd have used the Samuel L. Jackson suited body for this figure instead.

Our incoming high school freshman class were born in 2010-2011.

Sorry, I know ya'll are talking about shiny new toys, but I'm still recovering from this. Doesn't help that my Nibling just started their Junior year of high school, and I remember them being born.

Anyway. Yay, plastic.

Got nothing against suited characters, personally. We just have so many suited characters/figures that it's nice to have a little variation on the shelf. But if it's the main look for the character, I'm good with it. I'd rather them not waste resources on one-off looks unless it's somehow really memorable. But honestly, Mandarin isn't a character I really have that much nostalgia for. I'm mostly just curious as to where we'll see some of these parts reused down the line. 😅

Yep. My youngest son is a freshman this year, born in 2011. My older boy graduated this past year...that shit hits you hard, so be ready for it.

This may well be the only Mandarin they ever do
If that ends up being the case, it still won't end up in my collection. Too modern. Too boring.

From all our discussions here (or well, Fwoosh before here) I think a lot of folks were in the same boat that I am. I'd have been happy with a lot of different options. Purple mask, green/yellow robe, half naked dragon tattoo, Acts of Vengeance armor, I'd have even been happy with the green skinned animated look.

This feels like how Hasbro operated like 10 or so years ago where they'd make so many characters in costumes other than their iconic ones. Feels like it took forever to get the likes of Thor or Hulk in a vanilla classic look.

I think it is just them operating with same mentality that is behind what is now the infamous Jesse quote on Man-Ape. Which, I don't agree with and I think it'd be okay to do them. But they're the ones in charge unfortunately

I’m fine with this version. I’m no Mandarin fan. I’m glad they didn’t go with one of the racial stereotype looks. I remember this arc, so I’m happy to take this, along with an updated Extremis in Resilient Yellow.

A cheap Mandarin is a Hand Ninja body green and purple. New head and cape. Oh and maybe hands you can see the rings on.

They left the most offensive part of the racial stereotype intact. The claws. Only yellow skin would have been worse.

Maybe it's cause I have nostalgia for the cartoon and I collected those toys, but the TAS look is how I picture Mandarin in my minds eye when I think of the character. But I am not sure even that look how Hasbro views it. Again, I am thinking they view this as the safest option for a comic based Mandarin figure

erock is probably right. All we've heard about is that Mandarin is such a problematic character and Hasbro has repeatedly stated that such a release would have to satisfy a number of concerns. This was the most vanilla version they could made, so they added a story specific Iron Man (which they did a pretty decent upgrade for) to sweeten the pot. Even still, someone is saying the hands are racist.

So... enjoy the Mandarin we got. Might be it.
