G.I. Joe Head Canon & Fanfic Filecards

Right, I guess that's what I was getting at, how fantastic do you wanna get and how close to reality? And so far, I think Doc has been holding the line really well. We get it for sure, and there are elements that can get real close, but ultimately what's exciting isn't how much we can get Cobra to reflect the modern administration, but how the Joe team, and others, can defeat that.

That's it right there. Looking forward to seeing how the Joes prevail (they are going to prevail, right Doc?)

Glad you're digging these! They're way too much fun to write, honestly, really becoming my vacation from reality when I can write a few.

I think about who might side with Cobra A LOT. I think it'd be a very small number because I always see the Joes as the guys who don't tow the line and that's how they end up there, they're not only the best at their jobs but they're stubborn AF about doing the right thing. I can't think of anyone as previously written by Larry and all who'd turn fascist without being a HUGE disappointment to us as readers. That being said, using Slaughter for that role in our little alternate timeline here kinda words cos so many of us had our hearts broken by him as kids turning against us in such a cartoonish manner. He's already done it to us once, why not here?

Yeah, I was really having a hard time coming with traitors and just don't see anyone doing it. Even the loners, grumpy bastards and red state Joes would be against fascists.

But as soon as I wrote red state, Cross Country popped into my mind. The fucker wears a Confederate flag belt buckle for christ sakes.

Cross Country
Awwwwwwwww damn.

When he joins Cobra, his codename IS Red State heh.

Man, I don't know if I'm ready to tackle Cross Country yet (I am trying to focus mostly on Classified characters so far) but why do I feel like Cross Country is one of those guys who just says something blindly bigoted, has no idea why everyone is mad at him, and the rest of his teammates are like "I don't even think he's smart enough to know he's racist"

Code Name: Flint (Disavowed)
File Name, Faireborn, Dashiell R.
Primary Military Specialty: Infantry
Secondary Military Specialty: Helicopter Pilot
Birthplace: Wichita, Kansas
Rank: WO-2 / Warrant Officer (Suspended)

Subject was on a short list of GI Joe Unit veterans President Lewis considered having detained when he took office. Faireborn was a visiting lecturer at Oxford University at the time and the British government refused Lewis's under the table demands for extradition - while the countries are allies, the Lewis administration did not charge Faireborn with any crimes and UK officials deemed him too high profile a figure to allow the U.S. government to disappear on their soil. Faireborn was publicly granted an honorable discharge and quietly placed on a watchlist and his travel to the U.S. restricted. Leveraging overseas contacts, Faireborn was granted a work visa and continues to teach at Oxford as well as other universities throughout Europe. It is unlikely he will return to the States while Lewis is in office.

"The best thing that could have happened to us was having Flint overseas when Cobra Commander was elected. He's been leveraging contacts and building bridges throughout Europe and North Africa. Hell, he's a legitimate traveling professor, Indiana Jones-style - he's able to quietly move from country to country, lecturing by day and building a network of operatives by night. He's our main point of contact with Big Ben and the SAS, our old pals with the Oktober Guard, and a dozen other military organizations who are not fans of what Cobra's doing back home. And somehow he still has time to lecture on the Romantic poets and military theory at the top universities across the world. I miss him though - it's always a pleasure to talk about literature over whiskey with Flint when our lives aren't at risk."

FAWK that is awesome. Really great direction for him. To me, Flint was kinda like Duke-lite on the cartoon as far as a waspy, strong jawed, hero type, but the lite part is because he never bothered me as much and I can't explain it. Ultimately both took away from Snake Eyes as far as my grade-school mind was concerned, but I know Flint has a lot of potential and like I said, this is a great direction. Really does a lot for building my excitement for the character.

Flint's always interested me because he's the only one whose academic background is such a focal point in his file card. "Bored by the Groves of Academe" is a hell of a line to drop on the back of a toy soldier package and I always come back to that. If anyone is going to be teaching after he's too old to fly rescue missions it's Flint. (Lady Jaye's up next. Might need to go Big Ben just to complete the Isles trifecta.)

No, you're right, and I'm glad you latched onto that.

And ugh but you just mentioning Big Ben made me want to go get his figure. What the hell?!

Also, I did a couple today. First is Duke:

Those came out so good - love that you included the recruitment photo on Grunt's. I may try to find time tonight to get some shots of him Wicking out on some Vipers to go with the backstory there.

Working on Lady Jaye's tonight.

I know you're a one-and-done guy, but Big Ben with night force colors is barely noticeably off brand from regular Big Ben and I don't think we'll get another one soon. He's one of my favorite figures in the line becuase they just went all out on getting him right.

Thank you! And yeah, that would be awesome! I guess I should start asking if you're able to achieve some of the shots I wish I had. I'm working on Gung-Ho now but may not be done until tomorrow, but trying to add some... stuff.
Working on Lady Jaye's tonight.
Fuck yeah.
