G.I. Joe Head Canon & Fanfic Filecards

So 20/20 hindsight I think I might want to say that Crystal Ball had his weird incident in Innsmouth, Massachusetts, but I originally used the Himalayas to hint at Cobra-La. What do you all think? Anyway, here's his thugs:

Code Name: Ghost Viper
File Name: Various
Primary Military Specialty: Infantry
Secondary Military Specialty: PsyOps
Rank: Viper Mark 2 (Specialist)

The Lewis administration claims no responsibility for the existence of or actions taken by the cadre of paramilitary fighters known as Ghost Vipers. Currently operating as both the security detail and muscle behind Crystal Ball, these former Vipers use what appear to be a combination of fear-inducing chemicals, hallucinogens, and fear tactics to intimidate, demoralize, and eliminate threats to both the administration and Crystal Ball himself. The technology they use is proprietary and the long-term effects are unknown. A group of U.S. senators have called for an investigation into these shock troops, demanding to know the long-term effects of the chemicals they use and who, in the end, holds their leash. Sources believe that investigation will stall out in committee, however.

"Crystal Ball's attack dogs, plain and simple. I've spoken with Dr. Mindbender on several occasions asking about the technology in an effort toward openness and sharing of efforts; Mindbender claims to have manufactured their fear-inducing gear based on some of his earlier mind-control technology, but the man is unconvincing. He is as unnerved by the Ghost Vipers as anyone, though he claims to know how their fear abilities work. In truth, he has not had access to their gear in months, not since Crystal Ball returned from the Himalayas, and nothing can explain why the "ghosts" and hallucinations these troops use, which should be visible only to the victim, can be picked up on camera, or how the ghost teeth and claws of those ghost wolves draw real blood..."

Damn, another one! Really getting into the troops! Who wrote the commentary on this one? I really like what a credible threat Crystal Ball has become. You need to let Stephen and Owen King know.

I was actually thinking about this on the way home for some reason, if you ever want to revise any of these later on. I actually think Cobra-La being separate from him is a cool idea. I guess both are kinda Lovecrafty huh? But could still be at odds with each other.

So I'm in a mood and taking advantage of the inspiration. Yes, there's an intentional echo of "there is no war in Ba Sing Se" in there:

Code Name: Crimson Guard
File Name: Various
Primary Military Specialty: Undercover Espionage
Secondary Military Specialty: Varies; usually Demolition, Law, or Finance
Rank: E-4 Equivalent or above

According to both Cobra and the Lewis administration, there are no more Crimson Guard. And, logistically speaking, this is true; they have no formal military unit, and none have been seen in public since Lewis took office. In truth, however, there are Crimson Guardsmen in every corner of the Lewis administration - this highly specialized, highly trained, highly educated cadre of financiers, lawyers, brokers, cybersecurity experts, and terrorists are a perfect talent pool to pull from for nearly any role the administration may need filled. So yes, there is no Crimson Guard in America. Because the Crimson Guard is everywhere.

"No other aspect of the Cobra war machine was better prepared to pivot to legitimate government roles than the Crimson Guard. Every single one of them holds an advanced degree in a specialization that is useful toward manipulating the future of the country, and, already living under false names and identities across the country - often already working alongside government officials - the CeeGees simply switched gears and went to work. They are the well-oiled machine that keeps the Lewis administration moving. Add to this the fact that each and every one of them has and is willing to again undergo cosmetic surgery to change their identity and you have a mix and match army of experts at your beck and call. And never forget that every single one of them is a trained killer. They have silenced more than one whistleblower either through threats, bribery, or a knife in the throat. Those bodies are buried so deeply archeologists will find them a hundred years from now."

Y'know, I think I might go back and change it from the Himalayas. Though Lovecraft had that arctic stuff too. I see Crystal Ball as being the charlatan who made contact with an actual ancient entity and sold his soul for real power. (There's Cthulhu Juice in those backpacks.)

Destro is the commenter for Ghost Vipers. I always think of him s being a bit florid and poetic. If they use metaphors and such, it's almost always Flint or Destro I think.

I always liked the CGs and Hama's backstory for them. Kinda almost Body Snatchersish, but either way I always saw them as a good idea and solid threat, but this pivot really makes them even worse. In a good way.

Yeah I think you should. If it doesn't sit well with you, you always have the original version. But I will update also once I finally get comfortable with my new software. Actually he might be a good one to start with since I had it done and can replicate it as practice.

Makes total sense... Somehow I forgot Destro. I know that's blasphemous for you.

Code Name: B.A.T.S.
File Name: N/A
Primary Military Specialty: Infantry
Secondary Military Specialty: Crowd Control
Rank: N/A

The Lewis administration has promised the dawn of new technology to keep America safe, and B.A.T.S. (Battle Android Trooper) are one of those promises. The androids have not yet been "officially" deployed on U.S. soil; the administration is aware that the current model has some targeting limitations and has concerns about potential PR issues should a malfunction occur while deployed. Unofficially, B.A.T.S. have been used in several shadow incidents, including a search for a renegade GI Joe operative in a homeless encampment which ended in a massacre, and to quell violence during a protest on a college campus which resulted in the death of several college students and faculty. Both incidents have been suppressed and will not be verified under any circumstances. The families have been silenced, financially if possible, or with other means if necessary.

"A B.A.T. on every lawn for a more secure America. That's the promise Lewis is making. The truth is, these robots are morons at best, and, if I were inclined to believe rumors, vindictive at worst - they have shot dozens of Cobra troops in the back, crippled several through 'accidental' use of their claw attachments, and set at least two men on fire, including one engineer assigned to alter their control panels. Unleashing B.A.T.S. on U.S. cities is a PR nightmare capable of crippling the Lewis administration and Cobra Commander knows it. But if he's backed into a corner, Lewis will have no hesitation unleashing his robot army, regardless of the cost in civilian lives and property damage. They are his last, and most terrifying, line of defense."

Doc is on a fuckin' tear tonight.

Love all of it - but that BAT card made me want to go buy some fuckin' Retro BATs right now. I kind of dig on the idea that the BATs' AI was basically trained as it would have to be right now today - on the real life Internet. Which, if you know anything about how that's been going for real, actually WOULD result in a robot AI that's basically aggressive, cruel, vindictive, and maybe even 'just does it for the lolz' sometimes. An actual battle android trained on current generation AI would be terrifying and also kind of hilarious.

One of my favorite original canon bits about the BATS is that the Cobra troops are actively afraid of them because of friendly fire. I love the idea that not only are they imprecise and sloppy, they actually are quietly resentful of humans and intentionally fuck with and/or kill their own allies. I've had a standing head canon that my two snow serpents and one snow BAT are a unit and both of the serpents refuse to turn their back on the BAT, so that just carried over into this. I love this inscrutable, eyeless, mechanical monstrosity with a fucking flame thrower just staring THROUGH you as you try to figure out if he's going to shoot at your enemy or at you.

I think I have one more card in me tonight, gonna try to churn that out before I crash.
