G.I. Joe Classified Series

Same. I always hated how overpowered he was in the old cartoon, and thought he was a total square. But I like his figure(s) so far. Speaking of the newest figure/prototype, is that just the Heavy Duty upper body? Not that I'm complaining, it just finally dawned on me, most of us probably missed it because he's not in our hands yet.
Yep, Heavy Duty body. I’ve weirdly had HD for way over a month at this point because he was in-stock at CMDStore for a while and I had earned a special treat so I paid the shipping. He’s awesome, by the way. I actually like him best out of the rig with his hatless head and the eyepiece and a spare heavy machine gun and grenade launcher from Range-Viper/Night Force Falcon. He’s kinda wearing a version of Duke’s classic outfit like that and feels very field-ready and gives “main character energy”.

Dang more pictures of that Slaughter prototype are going around and he comes with a Marine cover cap and a bullet bandolier as well. So tricked out! He seems to resemble the 2006 convention exclusive Sarge. It’s cool that they are expanding this character into more combat-oriented looks and giving him some flair beyond the wrestler/cartoon persona. Classified seems to be giving every character a glow-up.

Damn, that hat is just another tempting aspect of this. I'd like to put it on my Gung Ho since I got the first version with the incorrect hat. But I kinda love the idea of Sgt. Slaughter being a villain...

I mean, “Sgt. Slaughter” sounds absolutely like a villain name, if you think of it outside a ‘Murica frame of mind . . . Like “here’s Duke, and Flint, and Hawk, and oh yeah over there is SGT SLAUGHTER but, like, he’s cool, man, yeah, makes a nice Waldorf salad.”

Well, at least when he is discharged, he can apply for benefits and... or are those getting taken away now?

That Cracked article was riddled with gold. it always brings me joy to see the old Joe product art, but also hilarious pointing out how ridiculous some of those designs were. I think I found the article again, but the images weren't loading. And come on, that was half the battle!

I assume they're going for the look Sarge sported with the Warthog. https://www.3djoes.com/warthog-aifv.html
This. I doubt they're going for evil Sgt Slaughter from the WWE, as that particular look could be wrapped up license-wise by the WWE. Also, why would Hasbro make that look in their Joe line? This upcoming Sarge is likely more based on his Warthog driver look.

The name Sgt Slaughter...well, I was watching a movie the other day which had Steve McQueen in it. Played a supply guy in the army. His superior officer was played by Jackie Gleason and Gleason's character's name was...Sgt Slaughter. The movie is Soldier in the Rain. 1963. Wouldn't be surprised if the wrestler took his character's name from that movie.

I took a personal day today and cracked open a bunch of figures I've been sitting on for just this kind of occasion, most of which I got on sale. Night Force Shockwave, Tunnel Rat, Wolf Spider, an extra Shooter, Kamakura, Nunchuck, two Iron Grenadiers, and Metalhead. The NF figures are all pretty straight forward, but I dig the unifying color scheme that isn't as audacious as Tiger Force. I wound up putting Cobra Island Roadblock and Tiger Force Recondo (with the stripes removed with acetone) in with this squad. I know the ninjas aren't part of Night Force, but their color schemes work well enough. They're ironically the most colorful of the group. (I took Kamakura's head and put it on Barbeque so he could have a no-helmet look.

The IGs are really sweet and regal looking. Like Crimson Guards but classier. And Metalhead may be my least favorite figure in the line. I thought his missiles could fit inside the launchers, but it's just the blast effects that fit. The missiles are either too small or too big. I just wanted to tone down the excess by not displaying him in a constant mid-launch, but to no avail. So I just gave him the IGs' machine guns. Metalhead is just a little too crazy for me, and now he's just boring.
