I think they could have done with maybe some regular swords, plus the plastic on Slice's is kinda low effort but other than that, they're great.
I'm really sad to see on a few recent releases that the Joe team is taking the play from the Legends team and going with 'almost translucent gray plastic' for sword blades. It looks fuckin' terrible.
So I did an irresponsible today and went to EB Games when I was at the mall grabbing something for my wife. They had precisely one each of v4 SE and armored CC. So.. I own those figures now. Definitely some mixed feelings here.
Armored CC is the better figure, I think. Extra head, extra hands, the silver armor looks a lot better in person than in any pics I've seen (something everyone always says about stuff, but you can never be sure if it's true until you also have it in hand). I wish the neck/head had better ROM. And as with too many action figures in general these days, the ankles seem to want to settle into a position where the feet are never perfectly flat. He's always wanting to lean just slightly forward or just slightly back, and there seems to be detents in there so you can't get it in between. I've got him standing fine, but it was more of a chore than it has any right to be.
Besides that, I really like him.
Snake Eyes just has some fucking bewildering decisions, to me. Why the FUCK are we this many years into the line and they're still making excuses for horizontal wrist hinges on right hands? It's beyond the point of just letting it go. It was 'whatever, things happen' like 3 years ago. No reason for it and the Joe team should be incredibly embarrassed that this is still happening.
The gun holster and sword.. .holder... are well-understood to be trash, so I pulled those off right away. He looks better without it anyway. Covering your ninja figure's butterfly joints entirely with a sculpted vest is bizarre. I feel like they definitely could have designed the vest to be fairly ARAH-accurate AND allow more ROM for the butterflies and they just... didn't.
As with Armored CC, he feels like he doesn't have the ROM in the head/neck that he should have, but I can't get it to do more, so....
I also think it was incredibly bizarre to put his forearm guards on the undersides of his arms instead of the outside of the forearm. It looks kind of dumb like that. Also, the Japanese characters on his forearms make the figure look cheap.
Maybe the smallest of nitpicks, but big to me because I'm a sword guy -- I understand the reference of having the red (or orange, or whatever) on the sword blade. But it looks stupid as fuck. Like.. what's that supposed to be? In-universe, I mean. Two completely different PARTS of the sword, that are not even traditionally made of the same type of metal, are that color together. Why is the cutting edge of this sword a funky color? Why not make the 'fabric' part of the sword a fun color and leave the 'metal' part of the sword an actual fucking METAL color? Fucking dumb idea by someone trying to be cute and I hate it.
I'm not upset that I have him, because this has always been one of my favorite versions of SE. But I am disappointed in the figure itself and disappointed in myself for not waiting for a sale. This guy isn't worth 40 bucks. They did SE dirty here with a bunch of just absolutely boneheaded decisions, probably by someone that didn't like this version of the character and decided they could make it better - just like V2 Storm Shadow.
I LOVE this line, but goddamn the Joe team really insists on fucking up only my -favorites- and that's starting to wear on me a bit I think. Hence the crankiness.
