G.I. Joe Classified Series

ARAH Frag Viper and Darklon were released about a year after my collecting days ended. My brother had them and I'm familiar with them mostly because I recently did a ton of pairing figures with their loose accessories. Both seemed rather nondescript in 3.75, but work really well as a Classified. Every now and then someone says, "I'm done with Classified when (insert figure) is released." I'm still not at that point.

Is it just me or does Darklon have really skinny ankles? Was this mentioned on his file card?

And this is why I need to stay off social media. Yesterday I was perfectly happy with Target pick-ups of Darklon, Frag Viper, Blowtorch, and Mindbender, but now I see a FB post showing Footloose was at a Target about 30 minutes away. I thought he might've been a straggler in the US because I haven't seen too many mention him. He would've been my number one want, however, I really like the Frag Viper in-hand.

So... I saw pictures on Instagram of a series of 1/12 fighter pilot figures by Ramen Toys that look pretty good. I didn't see any price info... One of the figures looked a bit like Val Kilmer from Top Gun... and I feel like another one the name alluded to Goose from Top Gun (Great Balls of Fire), though the likeness doesn't give Anthony Edwards.that much. I didn't recognize likenesses on the other two. They looked like they could be pretty Classified compatible and at least the Ramen Toys guys don't seem as toxic as the Patriot Force guys. I could see myself picking up at least two of them unless the price is crazy.

edit: So with a bit of research I find this is the second wave and wave 1 is already sold out. This is wave 2 that are up for Pre Order on Ramen's site. The price is $55 each and I went to pre-order a set but the shipping price was $50, so I balked.
Have you bought from Ramen before? Your post led me to digging around on their site and I've got a friend who's been searching for months for a good 1/12 scale van like what they've got. Wondering if it's worth sending his way.

Self-improvement aside, I kinda love Shipwreck being a gunner's mate and not a SEAL.

Me too. SEAL is like an easy 'win' button for making a tough military character, maybe? Something more interesting about Shipwreck being something that I wouldn't consider an obvious choice for a badass military guy - particularly a badass NAVY guy.

Isn't JoeFest going on? Is Hasbro there? I want to see that Night Viper something fierce.

I have the heads Ramen made for Masterverse movie He-Man and they're excellent. Fit on the neck ball perfectly and look fully production quality plastic and paint. If you didn't know those weren't official heads, there's really no way you could tell by looking. Communication wasn't great and it took a while for them to ship, though. It's clearly not an operation with a huge logistics team.

They have some of the Ramen vehicles, including a van, on BBTS.

Just got Darklon, cleaned him up, he's nice! I do want to talk about his articulation, namely his wrists and hips. So, his vertical hinges on his hands really only tilt downwards and have an impressive range. I don't think any of my other Joes can lower their vertical wrist joints as much as him; and it's not a bad thing. It is great for posing the sword in a pointing pose. As for the hips...does this guy even have drop-down hips? The weather is so hot that I'm wondering if maybe the drop-down hips just fused in place, but on my copy they don't really move at all. I'm curious if this is common or not. EDIT: Ok finally loosened them up enough to move them, they're nice and tight so hopefully moving forwards they're all like this.

He's a very fun figure, kind of a sleeper hit in that most people will probably pass because he's so weird. In-hand he's a lot of fun to pose. I think his gun could use some paint but otherwise I am very positive about him. He's really intimidating, probably the scariest dude to run into in the forest.

PS: I'm just noticing, the barrel of his chaingun has FIVE holes for blast effects. So you can choose your favorite or just put five effects in there for overkill. Would have been a great figure to come with at least one effect. His snubnose revolver sadly has no hole for a blast effect.

Just got Darklon
I've had him a couple days but just opened him.

Yeah, doesn't seem like it on mine either.
He's a very fun figure
Agreed! I'm really glad I got him.

Agree again. I love the mask, and he's got a nice size to him. Really cool figure.

Just got a Frag Viper and Darklon from Amazon. Both are 10/20 so far, though the "new" factor may be playing a part, haha! I've gotta say, even though my connection to this line is largely based on nostalgia, I really am loving Darklon's alternate helmet. I've been thinking about doing a custom so I can use the alternate head as a seperate figure.

The Darklon heads fit seamlessly on BATs, so the crazy Silver Monkey head (Darklon is a big Legends of the Hidden Temple fan confirmed) works pretty well as a rogue BAT.

Trying to catch up:

Slice and Dice were some of my favorites from back in the day. I’m super psyched to see updated figures of them! Immediately preordered.

Got Heavy Duty and his weapons harness is super fun. Love the blast effects.

Love all the female characters this line has. My daughters love playing with Classified with me. Hope that representation continues.

Can’t wait for Frag Viper and Darklon. I loved both of them back in the day.

BATs are my favorite, and the retro BAT recreates the cartoon look with the red faceplate, so it’s a must have. I preordered a couple.

I saw that some people weren’t able to get Range Viper. Maybe Hasbro should release him. He was another favorite of mine. Very happy that I was able to get him. He had nice muscularity.

Retro Viper—love this figure! Great improved articulation and love the vintage feel. I just wish he’s arms wear more muscular. The elbows/biceps are kidney of scrawny.

Dial Tone has shipped from Pulse.

Skipped Darklon since I’ve never liked his colors.

Opened Blowtorch and Frag-Viper. Both great figures.

Hasbro hasn’t been associated with or attended JoeCon in a while now.

Dial Tone is back up for preorder on Pulse.

Damn too late again. (Sold Out).

Although I have to think that there is more stock on the way because it would be weird that they somehow only got enough stock in to fulfill their website orders and nothing else.

Edit: So I took a quick look around and it seems like more stock should be showing up for Dial-Tone in the coming months. EE has him listed as August 2025. BBTS has him listed as October and I could only find one Canadian etailer that had him still up for preorder and it was listed as a November 2025 release.
