G.I. Joe Classified Series

Well damn! Nevermind on the pre-orders. Maybe docsilence's idea is exactly it...
If they're canceling the preorders it's gotta be reactive to current events - canceling a stream is one thing, canceling a way to make money is a bigger thing. Unless someone completely screwed the pooch and the vendors aren't ready to sell the stuff in which case someone's in beeeg trouble.

I have to imagine if they're monitoring social media they're seeing the comments, cos boy howdy, the comments on some of the fan sites anywhere I've seen the Action Joe pics shared... (I've worked with a ton of PR/comms teams and there really is a logic, and that err on the side of caution conversation is very hard and very private, but usually the decision is "don't give Youtubers 30 minutes of video footage to hang us with" and there's a logic to that.)

Pure speculation, but I wonder if airing a stream showing off the police officer's shield and riot gear in light of what's happening in LA made some folks nervous.

It would impact the preorders as well, I assume.
Especially since it seems like the massive majority of those preorders would be to end up receiving punishment from Marvel heroes...

There is speculation the livestream could have been postponed due to the police officer figure. Especially as he's essentially a riot control guy. I think he and the other figures will still go up for preorder.

I do wish the cop figure didn't have combat boots and was short-sleeved. Could have used the lower half of Shipwreck. Maybe this one will be successful enough for them to revisit the concept and give us a basic beat cop. I understand the combat approach due to the riot control stuff, which allows them to bump up the concept to a deluxe level, which matches the other anniversary offerings.

I bet that worries them as much if not more than the bad press of releasing the figure itself. Bad: "you released a figure in bad taste." Worse for a corporation: "So you released an action figure and now Instagram is full of photos of every superhero ever created beating the shit out of them and the police unions are calling for a Hasbro boycott."

Yeah, if they Shipwrecked him it could've been quaint. They went with realism (which the Action line, to be fair, has been REALLY good at) but selling him kitted out with a taser and riot gear was probably a better idea a year ago when they stuck him in the pipeline for production.

I don’t think we’d see short sleeve uniforms if they’re trying to be able to have some diversity swaps. Like the green shirts we could get swappable hands but full lower arms would be something new. Probably long sleeved would be my guess. Maybe a swap out collar with and without tie might be possible?

10/10 that cancellation was about the shitty optics of beautiful action shots that nonetheless are totally terrifying and look like they were shot in real life a couple miles from me last night.

They could offer a white cop. And then a black or hispanic one later. If the first figure is successful, release a different race one down the road. maybe even as a store exclusive. I don't think a regular cop would fit into the line proper. So it'd need some kind of different release SKU. Unless they again fit it into a deluxe release, but I don't think that would work. They could make a 2pk. One white, one black officer.

Slight gear shift, but the collar and tie thing Buttmunch said got me thinking about Dr. Venom and how I not only hope they do a Classified figure of him, but they Classified him up some because an older white guy with a lab coat and tie isn't something I'm super excited to put on the shelf next to Copperhead and Zartan. I was even looking into doing a custom using Scrap Iron's head, since the upper half of his head is pretty distinct and I never see it with his helmet on, but also I know I'll also look at that and think "That's just scrap iron's head" because I suck as customs and even more at tricking myself into buying into the ones I've done. Unless it's part swapping Cobra Troopers or simple repaints like Boba Fett figures or something.

Somewhere, someone is yelling "I told you we should've previewed Eco Warriors this summer!"

I have a writer colleague who has done a ton of work for Hasbro over the decades and he swears that they are quietly the most socially aware, progressive clients he's ever had. I don't know if it's true but his impression is that folks in leadership have strong opinions about at least trying to be ethical. (Who knows if that' still the case, but he's still doing work for them and swears by the opinion.)

On a totally lighter note - I was messing with Retro Gung-Ho lat night and couldn't get his... what is that, a grenade launcher he comes with? Couldn't get it into his hands without warping the grip because of the shoulder strap, so I tried to steal a gun from Steel Brigade or Grunt for him and it is absolutely hilarious how no matter how legitimately big the gun is you put in his hands, it looks like a child's toy. Dude is a brick shithouse. Got him hunched over with a rifle that is normal-sized on every other figure and he looks like a dad trying to have a tea party with his five year old only the teacup is a gun.

That's really great to hear, even if it's just mostly true still. but entirely true is even better of course.

For real! I have him holding the SAW that came with NF Shockwave, directly under the drone here:

And I have to have Gung ho holding it one handed, aiming up, because even that gun looks kinda puny when he's aiming it with both hands.

They just suck at customer service, constantly making you buy figures you don't want by pushing multipacks over single packs, and not shipping anything anywhere/limiting online stock, driving up the prices on the secondary market, not taking payment plans for crowdfunds, and cancelling a crowdfund order instead of fixing the billing error that they never sent e-mails about and then refusing to reopen a "made-to-order" order, despite the fact that nothing had been produced yet, and then continue to fraudulently use that cancelled order in their "backed units" totals... :cautious:
