G.I. Joe Classified Series

If you can't find the correct size to work with plastic - try styrofoam balls -- the kind kids use to make their solar system science project out of. Cut the ball in half and shove the half-sphere into the parachute. I did that a long tine ago with something. I think it was those not-G.I. Joes that were produced by that company that did all the really nice 1:18 military vehicles? Unimax maybe?

I did see some half Styrofoam balls there that I thought about using but they are hanging pretty high above my top shelf so it would be pretty visible.

I found some DIY plastic bird feeders that have a clear dome on top with a hole already in it and they worked perfectly after disassembling and taking the part I need. They were only $5.49 each so not too bad.

Yeah, that's a concern. Mine were set up in a way you couldn't see in the parachutes. Probably helps that they were smaller figures, too.
If you got something that works, hopefully you'll post up some pics in the action photo thread, or here. I specifically haven't bought that figure because I don't know if I'd like the way it displays and I don't want it just standing on a shelf like everyone else.

Amazon has my first round of Vipers out for delivery today!
Uhhhhh . . . Happy Memorial Day I guess?

Kinda feel like I’m peeing on the graves of Doc and Quick Kick and the boys, but 🤷‍♂️

Hail Cobra Commander!!
The Great Snake Rules Forever!!!
COBRAAAAAAAAA!

I was looking at Heavy Duty on amazon. I have to admit I was never a big fan of Not-Roadblock (even Hasbro and DDP comics were getting these two characters confused in the early 2000's) but this figure is looking very nice.

Got mine too! Surprisingly under a year and without really any updates since the campaign. Weird but welcome.

I don't know that I ever paid attention to the estimated shipping date before but I really wasn't expecting it until November/December.

Got my 2 Vipers today. They both look great, but their hip joints are back to how the line was when it first started and really hard/scary to move. Just too tight given the thin hip peg. I’ll have to break out the shock oil that I own just for Classified figures and their hips.

I’ll keep saying it, but I hate drop down hips. It’s honestly a huge hindrance on my enjoyment of the line because I generally don’t want to pose the figures for fear of breaking them. They go on a shelf and they stay there.

Ack! That sucks!
I’ve opened six Vipers so far and they are all very fluid in their articulation points, including the hips. Actually, this whole retro wave (the copies I have, anyway) have all had buttery-smooth joints. I’ll be on the lookout when I open more Vipers that I don’t accidentally twist a leg off.

And yeah, I could do without the drop-hips entirely.

Dang, mine are just shipping out from Las Vegas today, slated to arrive next Monday.

I'm torn on the drop-down hips. I do use them, often. I'd say 15-20% of my posed figures are utilizing them, hitting some fantastic low crouches I wouldn't be able to hit without them. But I do agree they seem to make the figures a lot more fragile; the hip rods in particular could be thicker but now they have premade "weak points" essentially. Luckily I haven't had a lot of issues with the drop hips, not since the first year or two. But my worst nightmare is picking up one of these figures on a cold day and just have the leg snap off. Always warm up and do your leg circles (with your toys, too).

Lightly sanding those nubs on the hip balls is a much better solution. Just be careful on the nub opposite the hip rod, that one keeps them from doing the splits. But yeah, heat and pop the legs off, lightly sand the nubs, clean them, test, repeat. I give this advice a lot, has anyone tried it and found it useful?

I'll join in on the anti-dropdown hips. In theory they are a good idea, but my gawd they have effed up more figures for me than any other engineering detail. Just ruins so many figures I've bought. I really hope I don't get another dud Viper, but given every non-Retro Viper I ever bought had a stuck left hip, I'd bet a thousand dollars right now I get a dud. And now I bet I'll get a dud Mindbender, too. I'm gonna be fuming if the two figures I most want from this line BECAUSE the first run had bad hips get me again.

On a brighter note though, looks like the Rattler's shipping in June? Feels early to me. Not a complaint, either.
