Four Horsemen Studios Mythic Legions

With small companies like the Horsemen it is tough to predict what might be scarce in the not too distant future and what might linger. They don’t have that flexibility of doing another run of something like Hasbro might. They might do a rerelease wave several years later and those items may still not even be in there. It seems they’ve found a sweet spot lately with most of their figures selling out in a couple of days and not just hours now.

Every now and then there is still a drop like the blind box armory parts yesterday that goes unbelievably fast but left over items from last year’s legion con is hardly anything to get upset about when the full armory knight sets were available for quite some time.

I don’t think we’ll see many waves like those in this sale linger as long in the future.

A lot of the stuff from Ashes of Agbendor and the All Star run coming up, even the Reign of Beasts, are pre-sold out at BBTS which hasn't been happening lately. I PO'd what I really wanted from 4H but got curious about a few that I skipped and they're already gone. I did end up preordering Enoch's horse from BBTS because I regretted not getting him (I know underneath the armor he's just a reprint of the first horse but he'll look very different next to the unarmored version and Enoch is old, he needs a ride).

If you haven't seen it already, to make up for yesterday's mess with the armory knights, 4H are offering "blind" carded sets of three armory knights for $99. You don't get to pick what's sent to you but you get three different armors.

Considering you may not have received torsos that matched arms and legs yesterday, this seems like a much better deal.

My whole issue with the Armory stuff is each complete figure should have had a 2nd head. After the first Kickstarter, they basically added a 2nd head with almost all figures. The Armory figures (and mix and match convention program) were obviously conceived at the same time, so they should have included an alternate head with each figure. I understand the blind parts kits were limited leftovers, but again, extra heads should always be part of legion builder type figures.

The current, discounted 3 Armory figures for $99 is a good markdown. And if you don't care about which figures you get, it's tempting. If you like mixing and matching parts throughout the line, it's a good deal. Especially as each single figure is listed as $45. But the whole Armory thing has been executed a bit poorly in my mind. I have each of the green knights, one of each of the solid red knights, and one each of the solid black knights. I like the figures, especially the metallic green which really pops. If each figure came with a 2nd head, I would have likely bought more of each figure I have.

Still tempted by Ganesha and the Cosmic ATL figure. Even tempted by the blind Armory 3pks just to use as potential pop and swap fodder. We'll see if I crack, though. Probably likely I will.

Regarding BBTS pre-selling out of some upcoming waves. And some waves lingering. When it was only the 4H selling this stuff, there was always a mad dash to get stuff during in-stock sales. Obviously, this created an air of FOMO with the line. As retail partners started happening and increasing, this line has certainly expanded to the point of inventory being out in the marketplace that very few items are hard to find. Even years after their release. Retailers are likely are adjusting just how much stuff they want to order now, as there's so many other competing retailers out there, extra stock is just going to linger. So we're just seeing a bit of a contraction. BBTS, and other retailers, are likely ordereing more than just their presold preorders so they can have some leftover stock to have for in-stock sales, as not everyone preorders all their toys. I didn't preorder anything from the Ashes wave, as overall it didn't wow me. And history is showing nothing is too hard to get now. I will want at least one of the goblin 2pks and at least one of the Blue Knight builder, but I'm not too worried about those being "sold out" right now. Someone will have some in-stock once they arrive.

I picked up two armoury knights previously and agree, they really need a second head option. I only bought the one I did because I had a head I wanted to pop onto each one (I had a spare blue Atilla head to make like a half-shadow elf with, and I really wanted a body for the cat head that came with the con exclusive from last year - sidebar, the cat tail does NOT want to stay in the hole in the armoury knight body if anyone was going to try the same thing).

Got my waves mixed up - only preordered Kai'Patcha the catfolk thief and Xue the wizard from the ashes wave - kinda wished I got those goblins but I can live without, but I do love their wizards and those cat head sculpts get me EVERY SINGLE TIME.

All-Stars 6 I wasn't super into either - I got the two knights, Enoch and Andrew, and later added the horse from BBTS. 20/20 hindsight I now do like their skeletons in that wave but I was in skeleton overload when the wave was up for PO. Oh, I did pick up an extra Gorthokk but I got him to pop the black panther head from the heads multipack onto (again, the cat head sculpt thing).

Rising Sons is the one that blew me away. I went almost all in on that wave. Dwarves, barbarians, weird minotaurs... my kind of wave.

I'm sure some people just want extra fleshy parts for customizing. Maybe they overestimated how well they'd sell, but I don't think it's a horrible thing to have extra parts available in the store for a while. I do wish they'd sculpt some new bare parts which aren't so ripped. I'd also like some new swords. We have some generic ones. And then some overdesigned ones. Would be nice to get a little more in-between swords. Slight curves and angles to them.

Regarding the catfolk. They could probably stand to make a 2nd mold. The 4h are masters at repainting things to look new, but the current cat head has gotten A LOT of reuse. Just like they should have made a 2nd dragon-orge head. They repainted the dragon guy's head something like 4 times already. Let's see a little variety with these races.

All-Stars 6 had some great newness (ignoring re-releases for now). I'm in for any new skeletons, although at this point I should really dial it back. Crusaders are always visually interesting, but I do think I'll be ready to move on after the one from this wave. Sir Andrew is essentially just a repaint of the knight from the previous wave, so he's not terribly interesting. Berodach looks super cool. I was a little disappointed with the previous wave's Sir Ucczajk (Mythic Legions names are so impossible to remember) with his ridiculously useless for posing hammer, but I feel Berodach will be better due to having a sword. For re-releases, Sir Iganatius was one of the sleeper figures of the line. His pearlescent armor is really catching. Hopefully, they make more knights with that armor color.

Oh, mustn't forget the skeleton head pack. All in "standard" bone color. You know...to match that blink-and-you-missed him Skeleton builder. Don't worry, these heads will match the Skeleton 4pk...what's that? The 4pk are a different color? Nevermind...moving on.

Rising Sons does have a lot of goodness. The Barbarian faction has been a bit lackluster to me, since they all essentially have bulbous He-Man musculature, but I love the Nordic styled figures from this wave. Female Dwarf? Not something I was asking for but it's a nice piece of world-building. Bear is awesome. The Middle Eastern/Asian styled characters are also a nice bit of world expansion. A really solid wave.

I used to do All-Ins on most waves. You'd essentially get a free figure or so, which you could sell. However, I don't really do All-Ins anymore. Getting rid of extra figures isn't so easy, due to so many stores carrying them. I think I did go All-In with the Rising Sons and Beast waves, though. Thought they were all solid. I may even source some extras (Brodrr, dwarf 2pk, jackals, snakemen) once the waves hit.

They really are due for another cat (and dragon) head. Clearly people like them and keep buying them, but some variation would be welcome. Maybe female versions of either?

That setup is beautifully organized and makes me wish I hadn't gone on a packaging purge last year.

@docsilence For me, throwing away packaging was the right thing to do to make space, but I do regret tossing my import boxes. I don't have a big 4H collection but I did get rid of the bubbles and only kept the cardbacks.

I put all the little bio inserts into a box neatly stacked but couldn't make room for the bubbles anymore. I just couldn't justify the space if I'm not storing the figures in the boxes anymore.

I am one annoyed cleanup day away from tossing the maybe ten or twelve import boxes I still have. Those I kept because I worried I'd be throwing money away, but at this point it's worth the value drop for the X square inches of space in my home they take up.
