Forum Feedback

I was a long time Fwoosh member, but got to the point where I wasn't enjoying collecting anymore and sold off a bunch of stuff. That doesn't mean I still didn't like nerding out and seeing what was new, so I would always visit and lurk around. Finally got back on today and I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to fucking log in and once I did find a way, that stupid basic math question wouldn't work, so I poke around, find out about this site and said fuck it, I'll get my news here.

I will miss Beamish' One-a-Day thread though, that was fun.

Saw someone mention dark mode - where can I find that toggle? I hate the white. This is a similar board to another completely different hobby board I'm on. I know where it is there, but it's not in the same location here. Never mind, found it.

Now to poke around and check out the sale threads to see if anyone wants to buy some of the shit I still have.

Between the downtimes, really bad forum reboot and subsequent slow collapse, lack of any communication, etc using the Fwoosh forums just kinda burnt me out. I can't see myself going back at this point, especially since the community I've enjoyed being in has mostly migrated here. Even if they rebooted the Fwoosh again, I couldn't see a point for a fourth migration.

No disrespect to the Fwoosh staff, though.

We just need to get a few of the stragglers over here and we'll be gold.

I've considered posting this over on Fwoosh since it came back online properly the other day, but I haven't and I'm still waffling on where I stand with any of that.

I love Fwoosh. I honestly don't even remember when I joined up except to say that I don't remember a time in my adult life when I wasn't a member so it must be 15+ years by now? Something like that. Hell, I'm a FROOSHER as well. Signed up for that to help the site out back when you could pay money and have access to the exclusive cool kids club. Being a member of that (this) community did and does mean a lot to me. I didn't abandon Fwoosh, but I do feel like Fwoosh abandoned me.
It's a free site (for users, I mean) and with that you don't really have any reasonable expectation of being treated any given way. Pabs/etc can do whatever, whenever. They don't owe me an explanation.
What explanation we have gotten has been threadbare and doesn't instill me with confidence that it's not going to keep happening. What I'm most interested in is continuing to engage with the same community and doing so somewhere stable that I can reasonably expect to be here when I sit down at the computer.

And quite frankly, it seems like this place has been more active than Fwoosh was over the past 6 months or so. I think part of that is people not feeling as motivated to post knowing maybe that post will disappear. Possibly forever one of these days. I know TSI is commited. I know this place isn't going anywhere. Best case scenario is for Fwoosh to stay Fwoosh and link back to here for the discussion. Pabs can stop fighting with forum software and just let TSI handle it. Worst case scenario? I don't need two places to talk about toys and one of the options seems to care more than the other about the community we've built.

I feel the same re: Fwoosh. It's the only online place I've ever felt a real attachment to, and despite all the hurdles of the last few years I still feel that attachment very strongly. As long as the board is there I'll engage with it, but KD Is not wrong to say it feels a little one-sided. And as much as there are individuals who might keep it going, there's a natural attrition that's going to happen with so much downtime and uncertainty.

That said, there's absolutely no need for this to be a schism of the community. I don't see any reason Fwoosh and AT shouldn't coexist and partner up like KD says. Neither space is mine to push the issue on, but it is the best case outcome for all parties involved - especially the community writ large.

My first ever forum was AFT (Action Figure Times) We had a great community there. Then without any warning, the site just disappeared. I still have no idea what happened there. Although I suspect someone may have passed and the site was abandoned. But losing that really sucked. Eventually after lurking for a long time, I decided to join in on the discussions at the Fwoosh forum. It wasn't AFT, but it was great in in its own way. Then Robo left and everything was much less reliable. The many down times just bite.

I'm not anti-Fwoosh in any way. The biggest problem for me is the lack of communication and unreliability. Fwoosh would go down for weeks and I could find nothing on the internet about why, how long, or even if it would ever come back.
I really enjoy reading and talking about toys with fellow minded collectors. I really miss it when that isn't possible. I'll still check in on the Fwoosh if it continues to function. But I'm more inclined to engage here at Articulated Thoughts. I'm glad it's here and appreciate TSI for making it happen.

If Pabs cared about the Fwoosh he would be worried enough about people leaving that he would have posted something. All he had to do was make a new post and sticky it saying we would be experiencing downtime over the next few weeks and months as he worked out the kinks but he didn't have the courtesy to do even that.

He likely isn't communicating with Benty any better than he is with us and Benty is doing what he can to try and stop the bleeding.
That's my take. I used to be a regular (MollyMillions) before the first blip, and when it restarted I could never actually log in. It said I was banned. Couldn't contact anyone given how the set up worked.

Still lurked. And just as a toy collector - No communication about the toy line. No comment about the forum and stability. No consistent front page news. Social media is dead. Robo and Veebs left.

The Fwoosh is community. I love y'all. But that fractured with Robo leaving, and splintered more each forum crash.

All with no communication. For my eye, Pabs has been MIA since Quarantine outside of the "wear a suit, be professional at home" videos he did.

I don't see why you'd invest in Fwoosh or want to involve Pablo. There is no investment back in the community. TSI had to grassroots and take initiative to keep the rest together.

I wouldn't even have found this place if not for the forum going up randomly last week at 1am and seeing talk about the proboards.

There's no word on the toy line and it's failures and struggles. There's no new "face" of the community. There's no talk about a future.

The sunk cost has already been paid.

The future is here.

Oh yeah MollyMillions. I remember you from before. So many people we lost and didn't get back. Hopefully they all make their way to us here. TSI is like Mother Abigail from "The Stand" at this point, gathering all the good people back up after a disaster.

For what it's worth I'm here to stay. I went to Fwoosh after CriticalMess.Net died because it was an operating site and I do dig ML. I've been Chooch or a variation thereof going back to the DC Forums when that was where we could talk about DC Direct's lack of Batman license. I'm happy to have a place that has someone invested in it's maintenance. Thanks TSI!

We're on Instagram, Bluesky, and Reddit now. I'll communicate updates through these feeds as necessary. They'll mostly be used to advertise new posts in the Spotlight section.

Unsurprisingly, my Reddit posts haven't gained much traction. I think that audience is happy with Reddit, otherwise they'd be on a forum already. Facebook is next.

I lurk on SOME reddits, but never ever feel like interacting with anyone. I mostly just look for news and leaks and such so I don't read comments too often, unless it's a post of someone asking a question I also have and want to see the responses then.

But anyway, right on TSI! Seriously excited for how committed you are.
