Figura Obscura

Definitely more of a Marvel Legends than Mythic Legions convo, but I was just talking with a friend who doesn't even want Hasbro to finish the Thunderbolts anymore because of how bad Citizen V and Songbird will look next to newer sculpts. (I still want them to finish it but he's not off-base in his disappointment).

But seriously, knowing Figure Obscura would do a Halloween and Xmas figure every year was starting to become something to look forward to.

Now that you mention it, redos of Songbird and Citizen V would be nice. And make Mach-X now!

The Thoth reveal made me give Anubis another look. I wasn’t that interested in just getting Anubis. But if 4H make more, I’d be interested. Like if we got Horus, Osiris, Isis, and Set, then that would be a cool display.

I really, really like the two Egyptian gods they did already but I keep dragging my feed about finding a home for them. I actually JUST found a permanent place for Wukong - he was in and out of the box for a few years til I had a place I was happy to keep him out. (And now of course I have him and want the golden version too, but...)

(EDIT: I'm pretty happy with the old Citizen V but Songbird on the new Carol Danvers style buck would be awesome.)

This is me. I'm sure I've said it a million times on this forum but they have progressed so much with quality and execution, that they have to go back and redo so many things. Otherwise it just doesn't even look good.

And I want them to. I'll spend the money. It's frustrating.

Yeah, I'm super into the Egyptian pantheon figures ... they are the only Figura Obscura figures I've purchased to date, so I will be ordering Thoth.

I do hope they have others in mind and I will second the call for Sobek.he would be awesome also Taweret the Hippo goddess.

I know it's not the most obvious choice, but Thoth is my favorite Egyptian deity & the one I was most going they would make next! I'm really excited for this one.

If they really wanted to surprise us they’d make their next release a line of plus-sized LARPers. “We have taken great care with our paintjob to capture the nacho cheese dust collected in the cuticles.”
That would likely piss off SOME of their fans (not ALL, but you know SOME fit that description).

Yeah, it is weird how often it seems like action figure manufacturers seem to have this conversation -

Decision Maker 1 - "Wow, customers seem really happy that we are predictably and logically releasing figures to build teams and collections!"
Decision Maker 2 - "Well, I'll be damned if customers of ours are going to be happy with us and think we are considering their preferences!"
Decision Maker 1 - "Yeah, you're right - should we not make the final member of the team at all, or make the character but not in the expected style?"
Decision Maker 2 - "Why not both? So 5 years from now we agree to "complete" the team with the last character but in a different style, and tell them how we listened to them."
Decision Maker 1 - "Brilliant! They will never see that coming!"
And you missed:

Decision Maker 2 - "Oh, and let's make it exclusive so that our worldwide fans have to pay more and have a harder time getting it!"
Decision Maker 1 - "Yeah! You know how our fans love paying more and getting frustrated about getting our products!"
Decision Maker 2 - "Exactly, it's not like they're gonna grow tired of it all and stop buying our figures, right?"

It’s a strange balance they are trying for. I get wanting to reward fans for coming out to their cons but at the same time, their cons are very Eastern US biased. They were supposed to come back to my local con (which works out well for Nate since he lives here in Utah too) but they had some other con that conflicted this year and they went to that one instead. So my chance at the touring legendary barbarian came and went with no fault of my own. Luckily that’s being offered later but the extra pieces being included in the other figures are more frustrating.

Again, I get wanting to reward fans, but some of the pieces they make exclusives to the show versions tend to be some of the better parts. The army builder aspect they put in the gold dwarf this year is an especially strange choice since the opportunity to get multiples of that is even harder.

I just fear the blind box skeletons are giving them ideas about trying that out more. Hopefully those didn’t do super well and they don’t do more of that haha.

I haven't bought any of the Christmas Carol figures, but I think it will be REALLY dumb if they don't at least complete the Ghosts & Scrooge. I guess collectors could buy the green Father Christmas to use as Present, and strip down Maxillius the Harvester for Future, but that still leaves Scrooge unrepresented. The whole idea that they don't want to be "predictable" is such bullshit...who is in this hobby would be happy to NOT know if they'll ever be able to complete a set of characters?

I haven't scanned all the posts for the last few days, but how likely is it that the "don't be predictable" thing is just code for "Sorry, we didn't actually finalize a design for Christmas this year"?

Like, I feel it'd be better to just say that if it were the case, but I'm with everyone else that the idea that predictability is bad is sort of baffling. The only reason I could see for ditching Carol stuff this year would be either that sub-line is selling badly, or the design isn't in production yet for some other delay. There's no business reason I can conjure that would dictate subverting an audiences expectations by no giving them what they wanted.

In hindsight, I’m thinking a lot of what they said was to keep the next day’s surprise figure a secret. I still bet we get Halloween and Christmas but beyond that it’s still unpredictable. Hopefully they don’t pivot away from Christmas Carol before completion. Then get as unpredictable as they want. Now it seems clear we can expect random Egyptian gods to pop up every so often, which is totally fine. There isn’t an Egyptian ‘season’ they have to fit those in.

I think their “predictability” stance is a red herring. I have to imagine these guys know the pulse of the fandom. They’re just trying to force some kind of surprise at this point. They can’t be that stupid to start a small group of iconic characters and not want to finish them.

I have full faith they’ll finish the ghosts at least. That’s one for each of the first 4 ‘staves’ of the book. The last stave doesn’t have a ghost and is just the morning after, so that seems the most likely to be Scrooge but is the most unpredictable part of the Christmas Carol beat. Whether they keep doing them each year or every few years now is the only question. I would tend to agree they’ll continue along until done, which could be this year for all we know if they give us the last three stave representatives at once.

I’d predict GoCPresent will be brute or ogre scaled, possibly using the Ganesha torso. Soft goods robe. Young and old heads. Lots of food accessories.

GoCYetoCome, I think we’re all expecting either a skeleton or zombie body in hooded soft goods. Scrooge’s tombstone dio piece. (maybe Tiny Tim’s too) They could get really creative with this one though otherwise not that dissimilar to the grim reaper they did in the Necronominus wave.

Scrooge is an interesting one. Do they go ‘formal’ attire that could be either the beginning or end of the story or nightgown to go with the ghosts? Maybe both with swap out parts? Maybe use the Marley body for formal? Don’t really have good thin, unarmored body so that could be something new if they went with nightgown. Maybe get away with the zombie legs and arms in fleshtone for ‘old’ arms and legs? A cane, candle and turkey seem like likely accessories. Maybe Tiny Tim if they want to go all out?
