DCAU/Batman Animated

Interesting. Doesn't look half bad, but there's still something feels a little off about it. Am I the only one that feels like, despite being touted as a BTAS figure, it skews a little more toward the TNBA design? Kinda feels like that Batman diorama thing McFarlane did of the BTAS intro, where it was the TNBA figure but in BTAS colors. Doesn't look bad by any means, but not quiiiite there. But I don't know if that's just due to the body or what.

I'll probably hold off for now, but I'll keep an eye on in-hand reviews. Also curious to see how deep they plan on going; looks like Joker is at least planned, and I may snag him regardless of Batman, since I missed the Mondo one. But the line could stop there and still feel relatively complete, so I'm curious to see where, if anywhere, it goes from there.

I couldn't bring myself to buy any of iteration of BAS figures released thus far. I'm typically not a fan of Mezco (I have 3), but I've waiting for this and Joker ever since they were teased. So I preordered.

If you don't like the soft goods Mezco style, that's fine and you're entitled to do so, but they are FAR more than "premium MEGO dolls".

That said, I looked at the pics and while he looks good, I'm happy with the DCD figures I already have, limited as they might be.
I mean, I have a few One:12s, and love them for the most part (ankle tilts/flatter shoes would literally remove that "for the most part"), and don't think the ones I have or even most of the line look like that...

...but that Batman 100% looks like a Mego doll IMO... 😅

Something about this BTAS Batman reminds me of how he was depicted in the Batman:Vengeance & Rise of Sin-Tzu video games for the GameCube and PS2. Maybe it has something to do with the over exaggerated head sculpts and the triangular shaped torso?

I think some of their live-action stuff looks fine, but the stylized proportions of BTAS is pretty damn far from live-action and it's not working for me here.

I have Bartholomew Vex, David Harbour Hellboy, Ghostface, and Casey Jones (and the Turtles, but even with their clothes on, they're not really applicable for this conversation lmao), and they all look great!

But there are some that just look too much like dolls in oversized clothes, which is my complaint with even 6th scale soft goods.

And then there's this BTAS Batman that looks exactly like a Mego to me, lmao.

Like I said before it reminds me of the art style from the video games which almost had a Don Bluth meets Bruce Timm quality to that particular style. It’s a little uncanny valley but that doesn’t make it inherently wrong or bad. Lots of artists have put their own spin on BTAS Batman. I site Kelly Puckett, Mike Parobeck and Rich Burchett as being the three driving forces behind the Batman Adventures Comic book & its various spinoffs as a prime example. It ain’t the animation from the series by a country mile, but that doesn’t mean hit the same beats when it’s all laid out in front of you

Putting this out there in case anyone hadn't seen it - The McFarlane BTAS Bruce Wayne wave is up on Target's site now for preorder, if you still need it. If you're on mobile, they appear in the search with "check stores", but click on the figure anyway and you'll see a button to preorder. July 20th release. I ordered a set, easy peasy.

I saw Phantasm was up earlier but was already pre-sold out and I'm still seeing that now on desktop and mobile. Dang it, apparently that's the only one sold out.

UGH.

Ah, hell. They were all available when I posted, that sucks :( sorry man.

Checking it now, I see that HARDAC Batman is also sold out. Bane and Ivy still up.

I was really happy to be able to order Hardac and Phantasm yesterday, I've had Ivy and Bane for a while. I'm pretty sure these come in a case of 6 with 2x Ivy and Bane, which is why Hardac and Phantasm are the harder to get. I almost spent way too much money the night before ordering the whole set from a Canadian retailer, even more than the ridiculous price I'm spending to get the BAF from Target.

I'm not really thrilled to have Jonah Hex as the next BAF, there were so many better choices, but of course I ordered the set anyway. I guess we aren't going to get some of those BTAS specific villains (Red Claw, Ninja) before this line ends, and TNBA Penguin is never happening because TNBA is relegated to repaints and re-releases for some reason. 😥

I found regular and gold Bats and Ra's at Target today. App said Grey Ghost and Killer Croc were in stock at that store. I noticed the nice electronics guy was working so asked him. He confirmed that all figures in a wave ring up on the same number so it's a crap shoot, but he went in back and came right out with regular Croc, Grey Ghost, another Ra's and then Bane and Poison Ivy. He shared my frustration. He's a Funko Pop guy and apparently all Anime or all Gamer ones ring up the same. That must be a huge pain in the ass.
