DCAU/Batman Animated

I love Tony Mei’s work. I have his deluxe 1/12 BTAS Batman and it’s my main figure of the character. I don’t even need the Mezco or the McFarlane stuff to supplement the collection, not that it works anyway because this figure is more on par with the Gong Studios Batman and Superman as far as the size is concerned. It’s on the V-Toys body.

For anyone who has been keeping up with the BTAS figures from McFarlane, what exactly is the latest number of Batman variants that were inspired by Kenner? Because by my last count there have only been four: Combat Belt, Skydive, Lightning Strike and Knightstar. Have there been any others?

Skydive, as in the Kenner orange Batman with the parachute? I don't recall that one. The only other ones that come to mind are TNBA, the silver Batman and red Batman chase (bated on Infrared Batman, I guess).

Saw this on IG. Looks like we’re getting a couple platinums from the Clock King wave. Not sure if they’re based on Kenner variants but I’m assuming so.

I thought I remember at least seeing it in box at a convention or toy fair about a year ago. Did it never materialize?. It was very distinctive. It even had the straps

I already removed the lightning stripes from the Maxie Zeus Batman, I can't see myself needing this version since he never wore it in the show. Did Joker ever wear a blue suit in the show? I only remember him wearing the the traditional purple, the gray overcoat, and the occasional situational costume like his Christmas With the Joker outfit and the fisherman outfit and a couple others. I have no recollections of the blue one this figure is wearing.

Again, those are Kenner homages. They are only tangentially related to the show by proxy. Even the combat belt variant feels like an anachronism with the black cape and the slate blue body suit. Damn that feels outdated.

Also if it were ever given the opportunity to approach Todd in person, I’d ask him to please consider making at least some BTAS figures based on the Batman Adventures comic book. I think it would be cool to get some of the one off characters who only appeared in that comic run along with a few figs based on the art style of Mike Parobeck, Ty Templeton and Rick Burchett

Oh I get it, but it's called Batman the Animated Series and we're getting homages to figures that were in no way animation-related. Plus as this line closes out, I'd rather have the limited spaces left taken by figures that actually appeared in the show not Lava Flow Armor Batman, Bubble Wrap Stealth Suit Batman, or 90s Day-Glo Assault Batman. The only benefit I see is the additional expressions since I never got the Batman Expression Pack when it was new.

Given these that I already have all of these figures from DC Direct that I have to buy again just to get the BAF, I'd rather have the repaints but I don't even have that option since I've seen all of one chase figure from this line.

Of course, what I really wish is that Clock King was a single release so I don't have to buy a bunch of figures I already have, but sadly I live in this universe instead.

What I would settle for is being able to order these on Target website and have them delivered to my house without being canceled after confirming a delay 7 times so I don't need to go to an international site and deal with damn tariffs (which may still be cheaper than eBay) just to get a Clock King that isn't missing limb or a torso.

For me, the repaints is the least problematic thing here.

It really feels like Todd was only allowed to resurrect DC Direct as a limited license/clearinghouse kind of arrangement because outside of the cowls, it’s just the same shit that the last DC Direct produced about a decade ago. Hell I’m surprised that Todd never rereleased any of the figures from the Tim Bruckner era.

Agreed. I've been dealing that exact scenario for at least 4 waves now and it seems to only gets worse. Orders that go unfulfilled in a game of retail "Simon" where because you didn't check your Target order at 1am on a given Monday for the 5th time consistently you're now "out."

I've come to accept it as just "part of the fun", like there is no other way but through. One wonders if the line ending wouldn't just be a small mercy whether we get everything we want or not. Already owning Killer Croc and having to order him from Asia just to get a BAF head for a figure that was in one episode was the height of absurdity for me.

I see they stuck with those terrible hip-hinge things for Clock King so I'm guessing those legs are reused from somewhere. Not sure why they didn't just reuse Two-Face or Gray Ghost who both didn't have that.

We did get the Batman Who Laughs and Azrael figures from The Adventures Continue (the former of which I don't think ever actually appeared in the comic). A re-release of Batman and Catwoman too, with an unmasked head for the latter. Forever bummed that Todd never made the Vampire Batman or Talon figures that were shown off. Don't know why he only made those 2, other than popularity, maybe? Or they were further along in development?

I know it's not gonna happen, but I'm still hoping that, maybe right before the rights lapse at the end of the year, Todd may somehow release the animated BAFs somehow- singles, box set, I don't really care. I'm in the odd position of having 3 of the 6, but I'd take extras if it meant I could just have them all without going through the hassle of trying to source each part or get an overpriced complete one.

If given the choice, I'd opt for the Pogo Stick Joker variant and the Batman red variant, just not to have repeats. (I still have the Kenner figures in my display, so could be fun to pair them.) But like everyone else, I'm just hoping to find any of these at retail, as Clock King is definitely on my Top 5 BTAS wants.

Yeah the Batman Adventure Continues stuff was fine, but those books weren’t technically in continuity with the rest of the DCAU/Timmverse stuff because it treated the canon from the television show as if it were in lockstep with the current continuity from the comics and it was demonstrably not. I mean it even had elements from pre-crisis and post crisis universe melded together with stuff from the new 52 and it didn’t make a lick of sense. If I recall correctly I think clayface appeared in The Adventures Continues and it was Basil Karlo and not Matt Hagen

I’m talking about the classic comics from the early 90’s when the television show was relevant and in its original syndication. Between the Legends of the Dark Knight series and Batman Adventures (along with its various permutations) were my jam back in the day. I was reading more of those comics than the main comics from the 90’s. At least until the Doug Moench and Kelley Jones books began their run because I am a sucker for his art
