I have six shelves dedicated to the best retail toy line out there today. Six full shelves. That's more retail space than I allot to any of the many toy lines I collect. I have 76 figures. I won't be able to accommodate four, five, six more Classified figures. I know "at capacity" varies for all of us (I don't know what you all who have HISS tanks, Dragonflies, VAMPS, or Singers do), what do you do? How do you trim it?
Normally when I go through toy lines to trim down I start with the figures that I consider to be sub par or low-effort. Problem here is, I don't think there are any low-effort Classified figures.
Next I might look at trimming down figures I have more than one version of. Problem here is, I have two Cobra Commanders, two Snake Eyes, two Dukes......that's it.
I generally try to not buy characters I don't have a connection to in the first place, but occasionally one might slip buy. The Classified figures I buy, by and large, are featured prominently in the Sunbow Cartoon or the original Marvel comics run, and I have a pretty big connection to both of those. Helix is an exception here, she's "new", but I like her and getting rid of here isn't even going to be a drop in the bucket of trimming.
Sometimes I try to whittle large collections down to sets. When I decimated my Black Series collection I kept a set of ESB characters.....main characters.....and that worked out well for me. I appreciate what I kept. For Cobra, if you held a gun to my head I would keep retro CC, Destro, Baroness, Zartan and Storm Shadow. I don't know where my cut off would be for the Joe team. The Dreadnoks are nice in this situation because they are a finite set of great figures AND these guys could be street thugs in other toy line displays.
I don't know, I'm not ready to do any major cutting yet. I'm on the verge of doing this for Marvel and two toy lines would be too much. For now I guess I won't be hasty and box some of them.
