Big Bad Workshop General

I never received my mail-away Mr Gone. I bought all of the Shocker Toys Indie Spotlight figures from BBTS and have them all to this day. Some are good. Some aren't. My Dick Tracy is really bad.

I *almost* bought SCUD when I saw him at TrU back in the day. I ultimately passed, because I didn't know anything about the character, but most of the reviews of him were positive.
Wait, those Spotlight figures were actually sold at TRU? I don't remember that!

I feel like we need to split out into a separate Shocker Toys / Geoff Beckett thread at this point. Anyway...

At one point I wrote up a history of Beckett, though I know a lot more came after: https://poeghostal.com/2008/02/the-saga-of-shocker-toys.html

And I even did an interview with him: https://poeghostal.com/2008/03/5-questions-with-geoff-beckett-of-shocker-toys.html

I also reviewed the Tick figure, which was pretty good, I have to say (though I heard rumors there was another collector who bankrolled that particular figure): https://poeghostal.com/2011/04/review-the-tick-indie-spotlight-shocker-toys.html

This must have been during my dark ages, 07-15?

I still picked up the odd toy but I wasn't as connected as I was back at the Toyfare and RTM days.
I believe the first wave was announced around 2006 or 2007, and released around 2009.

Nothing worse than a bad Dick!

Yeah...I don't know how widespread they were, or if they were distributed across the country, but I saw SCUD (both the standard yellow and the black variant), Katchoo, Shadowhawk, and Kabuki there. I was a big fan of the Kabuki comic, but passed on the figure because I felt it was rather lacking (and I still had the one Clayburn Moore had done, so I saw no need). I believe some folks found Tick and Maxx at TrU as well, but I can't be 100% certain I'm remembering that correctly.

I definitely bought all of Wave 1 of the Shocker figures at Toys R Us.

The Tick I bought at a con.... can't remember if it was Wizard World LA or SDCC. Thats where he got me to pre order Grendel and Barry Tick

I used to enjoy emailing Geoff to ask where my figures were 🤪

Dude... I did the same thing - every month or two for years. I did something similar with Alvis Underground. They both eventually changed their e-mail, but it made me feel better to be a pebble in their shoe since they each stole triple digit dollars from me.
