Star Wars Black Series

Not to mention our first on-screen instances of
lightsaber bleeding and someone actually giving in to the Dark Side. Not counting Anakin, of course, whose turn was much slower and drawn out. I'm glad we finally saw someone give in to the temptation (though seeing Qimir all shirtless and wet probably helped in that regard). It's what I was kind of hoping would happen with Rey in TLJ, even for a little bit. It's nice seeing Jedi be all good and well-behaved, but I love those moments when they give in. It's what made me love characters like Barriss even more.

I loved season 1, but I do feel like things were gonna get really interesting in season 2.
But this is exactly this show's problem: they were not guaranteed a second season. Hell, I didn't even know that was on the table with this property - it was always advertised like a limited series and I was really surprised two episodes from the end of the season.

Holding interesting things back does not work for streaming series ESPECIALLY when the seasons can be years apart*. I think Joss Whedon had his philosophy on this issue exactly right - you get hired for one season of television - complete that story in those episodes. A few threads can dangle, but for the most part, everything is resolved (with the exception of Buffy S6 because they had the two-season renewal but even that was still a satisfying place to end). Perhaps storytelling that respects the audience is another reason for that show's enduring relevance?

*This also bears stating: tearing down and rebuilding sets barely amortizes over our shortest seasons - that's why six episodes is the bare minimum. To tear sets down and put them back up is easily 5-10 million alone which makes greenlighting additional seasons of streaming even less likely and more cost-prohibitive in our current *bad* model.

But also - Amandla was terrible in her dual leading roles. The characterization of both twins was incoherent and her acting was flat - times two. She had a few solid moments, but for the very most part, her performance was underwhelming. And this:
It's almost like they knew they were courting controversy for PR purposes, and it dipped too much into the dark side.
This show's star and creative team absolutely courted controversy for PR purposes to use as a smokescreen to pre-silence the audience's valid criticism of what's unfolding onscreen. Cloak all criticism as racism, no one talks critically. Were there idiots being disgusting? Unfortunately yes. Did the creative team antagonize the hornet's nest on purpose? Also yes. A quality product should speak for itself but since they know they didn't make that, they used the new SW publicity smokescreen.

It seems people in this thread are finally getting around to the show and liking it without any of that crap around. It's standing on its own quality now, so it could have done it the first time.

FWIW, it's also worth pointing out that I only heard about these idiots being gross *because* of Amandla and the creative team giving them air in the media. Have no interest in listening to anything like that and it's not that hard to avoid. Don't give air to stupid.

To be fair, no show is guaranteed a second season. Unless it's a rare case of a studio absolutely loving what they're seeing or a new work from a pre-existing giant of the industry, and even then, studios can- and have- reversed their decision before. Every show is essentially a test run in its first season, but they won't get greenlit unless they can show the studio that they have a long-term plan. Sure, we're seeing more and more limited series, but with Star Wars, it's a brand, and they want long-running IPs, especially when it ties in to another run of stories that they're heavily trying to promote (in this case, the High Republic stuff). If Disney is gonna invest millions into a show, they need to know where it's going, regardless of whether or not it's guaranteed to go there.

I know the Acolyte employed many more practical sets than we've gotten recently, but if it really comes down to it, Disney has the Volume, so I don't think they're thaaaat concerned about tearing down sets. Not to mention they'd undoubtedly reuse a lot of those sets, like the Jedi Temple, Qimir's cave, etc.

We'll agree to disagree on Amandla. Was she stupendous and award-worthy? Not necessarily. But I think she did the job quite well. Emotional confliction reads differently on different people, especially when one of those people- Osha- is still learning to overcome the teachings that made her suppress said emotions. I hate to rely on this explanation for too much, but again- it was only season 1. The characters needed an arc, and perhaps that was part of it- learning to embrace those emotions more and more (as we saw a bit of at the end of season 1 with her and Sol). It would be like saying Mark Hamill couldn't act because Luke, while having an arc in ANH, certainly didn't have the meatiest of material just yet.

Figuring out how to handle online bullies is tricky. I don't think ignoring them is technically the right way to go about things. As much as we'd love to say they'd go away if ignored, they've proven that their voices only get louder. It's worked before to call people out on their crap, and these artists have every right to stand up for themselves, especially when the attacks go beyond the show itself and target their race, gender, etc. Of course by doing so, it invites more criticism and controversy. It's a double edged sword that I think people are still figuring out how to navigate.

Ultimately, I don't begrudge anyone their opinion- nobody has to like everything, as long as said opinion is given respectfully. But as we're seeing more often than not is that people aren't even giving something a chance before they criticize. They either start the badgering, or join the cacophony of noise before watching a minute of footage, or seeing the entire story and intent of something. And we're seeing more and more that when they actually do, they actually end up enjoying it. But by then it's too late. It's not like the movies, which we're used to, where the vitriol just kinda goes into the abyss. It's actively shaping the future (or lack thereof) of the thing itself.

Anyway. To keep things somewhat on track- I got in Galle yesterday. He's nice! Still getting used to the newer Clone body, since I haven't picked many up yet. Haven't tried swapping any Bly parts onto him just yet- I will later today.

My Lt. Galle from Amazon says he will be here tomorrow, but he hasn't shipped yet. Maybe one of my neighbors is now an Amazon warehouse and it will be shipping from there.

I did get some new neighbors recently. And they did move in a lot of boxes.

I have no attachment to Galle but I got very obsessed with having one commander for each set of colored clone armors and I definitely ordered him from Pulse to complete my collection. Pulse will defo ship him last, but given the current deluge, last is fine.

Same. If you want to fill out your Wolfpack, AliExpress has them. I got Comet, Boost, and Sinker last year. They had been sold out for a long time, but they're back in stock.

Edit: Looking at the new listing, they appear to be an upgrade with multiple hands, painted weapons, and blast effects.

I mean.. maybe? But I don't remember too many people getting that angry about Moss. Nor do I see that referenced very often in diatribes about why the show was bad. Plenty of us actually expected Moss's character to be more of a cameo scenario than a major character for the entire show.
Nope you were right about Moss. I got off the internet for a couple of days and contacted around 30 of my best buds who are hard core Star Wars fans. They all said they didn't give two shits about Moss. Then each one of them I had to listen rant about how the show could have been better, what they thought was wrong etc... That's over 90 mins of time I will never get back. Oh, also, I got Galle from Amazon today.

Can we even buy from them in the US still? Before all this tariff nonsense I bought quite a few KO named clones. The paint was trash on a few but otherwise they were solid additions. But last time I checked they went from like $25 to like $40 without any rhyme or reason, about when the tariff shit started. Some places won't even ship here right now. I thought Allie was one of them. Thought I saw a disclaimer saying no shipping to US but I could be imagining it. If I can still order some and theyre cheap enough I would consider getting more.

I finished The Acolyte last night. I enjoyed it. It is not one of my favorite Star Wars stories but I liked it enough that I wish it would have continued. I liked it enough to consider buying some of the figures from it. I would just create a different cannon in my head for the characters since so many died! I would love to see what happens with the Stranger and Ohsha. All that being said, I can see why some might not like it. My bottom line for me when I watch at home or pay money to see something in theaters is if I am entertained for an hour or two then it's good to me. I was here. I probably won't go all in on Acolyte figures but if seen on sale then yeah, I will get some of them.

The Black Series versions are nice enough that they really lend themselves to headcanon. Yord can sidekick his way around the galaxy with almost any other Jedi, really. And Jedi Trinity looks great fighting any villains. I think they're objectively fun Jedi even if someone hasn't seen the series.

I was supposed to get Lt. Galle today from Amazon, but instead he never shipped, and I got a notice saying I needed to accept delays and confirm that I still wanted the figure. That was weird to me, because I know some of you got Galle from Amazon just recently.

I guess now the race is back on. Who will ship Galle to me first. Pulse or Prime.

That happens to me every so often with Prime. Once I approve the delay, sometimes it ships within a day or two. Amazon gonna Amazon. I will say, Galle is a nice figure, but nothing groundbreaking. To each their own, of course, and I know the draw of sweet, sweet plastic, but I wouldn't say Galle is an "immediate need" kind of figure.
