Marvel Legends Maximum Series

Really love this Maximum Thor! My favorite Thor costume, and he looks great. I wanted a soft goods cape so that Thor can get into dynamic stances. I hope the hair won’t get in the way. Love the face options. I’m going to be tempted to buy more than one of this Thor for different setups.

Me too bud. I remember the tough days of 2010 and how much I loved the artwork for Extremis and Coipel's Thor. Now I have that 2 pack Iron Man and soon this guy! I mean it wasn't great waiting 15 years, but what can you do. This guy is gorgeous, best Maximum yet and I LOVE Spider-man McFarlane-style.
Coipel definitely drew Thor with bangs, as dumb as it looks. This figure is accurate to that.

Maximum has nailed the headsculpts. I love artist-specific figures and while it's fine to not like certain things I have to wonder how many people critiquing these figures even read comics. The Peter head with Spider-man is 100% how McFarlane drew him and the Deodato Hulk head is spot on too.

I really hope that giant energy ball is a sign Maximum Magneto is coming. I hope he's next (after symbiote Spider-man)

I owe Hasbro an apology for this one. When they released the Herald Thor a few years back, I threw a fit. I was certain they'd reuse it for a Coipel Thor. Not only is this a new sculpt, but it looks damn-near perfect. It has everything the wonderful 2011 figure lacked: double-jointed elbows, ankle rockers, a reasonable scale (let's assume), and A WIRED CAPE.

If I were cutting my collection down to a fraction of its current size, this guy would immediately make the cut. He's a must-have.

Hard agree all around. I also did some whining that I was concerned Herald Thor was getting a Coipel repaint and I was very not okay with it. So glad they didn't do that. Provided this Thor scales well with other current figures, it's going to be in my top 10 figures of the year almost without question.

Respectfully, one of your worst takes. I truly don't give a fuck whether it's practical. You know what else isn't practical? A big fucking anime sword. Doesn't matter. A big-ass anime sword strapped to someone's back is as good as peanut butter and chocolate.

It's one of my BEST takes, actually. And that is saying something because all of my takes are goddamn spectacular.
Weapons stored on your back look stupid. It would be a stupid thing to do. It isn't cool. And giant anime swords are also stupid as fuck. Giant sword on a character's back is the perfect way to tell me you fucking suck at designing characters and weapons and you're an edgelord dipshit.

Throg is cool, but even technically calling it a two-pack is BS.

I don't think they are 'technically' calling it that. I think the two-pack thing was a joke.

Also, they still couldn't give a proper hair flying sculpt so he can actually look UP. Disappointing.

-Probably- true, but it's worth noting a few of the glamour shots seem to show him looking up. So whether he can actually do it, and how well, probably remains to be seen. It can depend on how good the neck artic is combined with how pliable the hair is. Doesn't necessarily have to be sculpted in any crazy way.
Again, you're probably right. But I'd reserve judgement on this one.

None of the Thor portraits really say "Thor" to me. Also, the hair looks really bad - the strands are super thick and do look like Play-Doh. Thor with bangs is definitely a choice - this hair looks like He-Man. Kinda hate it. Hasbro has been on such a good run with great hairsculpts lately, too, so this is a bummer.

As others have said - the bangs is literally what this Thor looks like. It's like complaining that they made Wolverine with goofy floofs in his hair. Yeah, it looks dumb - but it is also what Wolverine actually looks like so.... kinda stuck with it.

My issue with the hair on this figure isn't the style, but the execution. The hair coming out from under the helmet looks terrible, imo. The head/hair swap feature leads to a bit of a toupee look for the helmet-less look. The bangs give the Classic Widow sculpt a run for it's money on who is more glam. I probably would never have displayed him helmet-less anyway, but the combination of the hair sculpting and the swap feature make the hair piece useless for me.

Oh, that's fair. I'm not even saying anyone has to like it. I don't think I'm a huge fan of the way ML does hair in general, but I'm also mostly just resigned to it now. This reminds me of the updated Sentry they did, with the noodle-hair. I just kinda go 'yeah, this is pretty much the ML style for doing hair and I can live with it.'

Noodle-hair is a great way to put it, I had almost described it that way in my previous post myself..

I mean look at the way it falls on his left, viewer's right, side of the face.. I just really do not like the look of that. I personally have not had a major issue with longer haired characters with their hair before. This one feels particularly egregious to me though.

Also since they replicated the pose, here's how Thor's hammer should have been scaled as well below.

This is what I was saying - I Googled and was aware Thor sported this hideous hairstyle when in this costume.

The hair itself looks poorly sculpted and the bangs start too far back on the crown of his head.

But - I am glad for swappable hair becoming a thing! It makes a lot of sense and is way more exciting to me than a fabric cape.

I thought the just-paint lower discs on his tunic looked bad but that appears to be accurate.
I've always been puzzled by that element of the design. The fact that it's Thor's best costume in spite of it is remarkable.
The heads could definitely use work. There's way too much face on that face. It kind of reminds me of what happened to David Hasselhoff as he aged.

Sometimes the edgelord dipshits are right. Look at every D&D rogue.

I don't see a Brock Lesnar resemblance at all. But then, I also think Brock Lesnar looks like a mutated infant.

@Resilient You won't get any argument from me about the weird size of Mjolnir. This is another thing that feels very Marvel Legends, though. Lots of over-sized accessories. But this one is particularly egregious. I'm hoping it's easy to fix, because the 2012 figure's hammer is also actually too big so I'm not sure about just swapping that one over, either.

No. They're never right. Look at every D&D rogue.

I'm not sure that I am. In theory? I love the potential options for different expressions with hair styles or helmets.. In practicality? Imports can pull these features off much better, but Hasbro simply can't execute certain features properly.. Look at barbell neck joints, for example. Hasbro has been implementing them for years and still hasn't learned that sinking the ball join as low in the neck as they do renders the joint useless.

The hair just looks to be floating on the head sculpt to me. It feels more separated from the head sculpt and creates a much harder line around the face. I'm open to "Resilient is being nitpicky with one of his favorite costumes again" but at a, what, $60 price point?, I'm not feeling this feature in its current state.

I'm just really worried I'm gonna spend $60 on this figure.. then have to upgrade the head sculpt and cape with a 3P version anyway.

Here's the in hand shot of Thor and some other long haired characters to show what I'm talking about. The ladies below feels like the hair is sitting on their heads versus Thor who has it floating JUST off his face.
