Honestly, 6" Tron probably has a better chance -in general- anyway. Even if it requires new parts and can't re-use lots of tooling. The thing is - if they make it a HasLab it will probably fail, because most (all?) HasLabs are overpriced. And I don't think this is a property that does well with overpriced bundle purchases. If they went 6" and either Pulse Exclusive or MTO, I think they'd have more success.
Dan (Secret Galaxy) Larson has one of the floppies. IiRC, he was given one when he bumped into Steve (?) at the airport after SDCC. He was excited to see what was on it and bought an external floppy drive, but all it was the typical Pulse style text announcement on the black background. A very anticlimactic, but neat promo.Found the inevitable obituary for the Tron HasLab in my inbox today.
In memorium to what could have been, here is my Tron display. The figures and bikes would have found their way into display. The light up base would have been "displayed" in a box in my garage. Maybe I would have found a use for it some day...
I ultimately would have preferred to replace my DST figures with 6" figures that can actually articulate, but in the end we have nothing. I won't be bothering with the Legacy figures as a standalone release. I would likely have bought them if they had done both movies (and even Ares) in the same scale.
I don't know how it is possible, but every single decision Hasbro made with Tron was bad. The only cool thing that came out of all of this was the 3.5" floppy they handed out at the last con. I actually want one of those...
Yeah, I saw that episode of Toy Geeks. No mystery about what is on the disk at this point, but like you said, it is just a neat promo.
Far as I know it's been radio silence. They said it was coming but TBF there hasn't been many opportunities since the crowdfunder ended to show them off. NY Toyfaire is soon and I'd guess we'd see something there.
Yeah if we are going to see anything I imagine Toy Fair would be the next big opportunity.
Yeah. Like, I hate to say it, but I still think the issue is that, even outside of Ares looking like a pretty awful movie, there just isn't a blue ocean of Tron fans who are also action figure fans to the point of buying a line like this. Maybe I'll be wrong, but my guess is if these come to market (and if they haven't already done tooling that's a big if) we will not be seeing a wave 2.
