Quitting/putting collecting on pause

I like to remind myself that at the end of the day, it's my fucking hobby. It shouldn't be stressful, it shouldn't be competitive, and it shouldn't come with any feelings of obligation. It's a hobby.

I went to a flea market over the weekend. I entertained the thought of leaving at the crack of dawn to get there when it opened so that "the good stuff wasn't picked over." Then I decided that I wanted to sleep later than six o'clock on Sunday. Because it's a hobby. I have decades to finish my set of Remco Mini Monsters.
 
Agreed. Best thing I ever did was stop giving a fuck if I get a thing. I still don't have Masterverse movie Blade, which really sucks like.. a lot. But it is what it is. It'll turn up one day OR I'll stop caring about that particular collection. Either way, I can't make it a thing I worry about.

I agree. One of the things that I find annoying is those few collectors who try to give you a sob story, or say it is for my kids, and so you give them a deal on something and then you see them trying to sell the item you sold them for much higher.

They are the ones who definitely should be shunned!!!!!
 
Having worked at Toys R Us and Software Etc when they put collectibles under limits, I just can't take any pity or put any trust in "my kid".

You've never taken your kid in the store in your life and all of a sudden you want to hook them up with Pokemon cards or special edition Gameboys for the family?

I don't think so.

Except in my case, it really is one of my four kids that I need the deal for. You see, when Mrs. Smallville and I got together, we never planned on having three children but, well, here we are! And the kids come first, you know? Especially when he has cancer, I mean he tries really hard to be brave but its hard for her, you know? I mean, woof, there's 5 of the little bastards running around, and two of them are sick? C'mon, man. Give me a deal so I can get her kids off my back, will ya?

Gee-whiz.

It would be so hard for me not to be a smart ass in that situation.

I had no problem telling the regularly identifiable collectors/ scalpers that I had already pulled it for myself that morning.

Why else do you think I work here.

" Oh yeah, I picked that up. It's really cool. I don't think we're getting more cases in though."
