G.I. Joe Head Canon & Fanfic Filecards

It's a great figure.
I actually had put him aside for a bit to make room for recent acquisitions and am about to pull him back out again. He's a top tier Classified. (I keep doing this to MYSELF, too - Quick Kick moved to the front of the shelf yesterday, made a custom Hector Ramirez, and have an eBay bid in on parts to make a custom Candy Appel... This thread is costing me money!)

If I were doing this as a long-form comic Carla would be something else, like "Stitch" or "Patch." Some classic playful nickname for a medic or surgeon. But that's also me not wanting Uncle Carl dead in this timeline yet. Maybe she'd start as Stitch and take on Doc if something happens to Carl.
Hm, yeah that would be a good way to do it.
Blowtorch was so hard to figure out. His OG file card says he's utterly paranoid about fire, won't sleep in a room without a smoke detector or be around people smoking cigarettes and I figured that could make him sound crazy... or maybe once you've looked into the flame you know how small you are. (My house burned down 25 years ago and I can STILL see the ball of flame that blew out the roof when they vented it.) So that might be a me thing: fire scares the FUCK out of me, but I want to express fear in poetic ways, so I projected that onto Blowtorch.
Wow. I knew that story but hadn't connected it to this; really incredible work.

And yeah, I never would have known where to go with him, but you really came up with something special and even managed to give him a personal touch, which I always appreciate.

My friend, karma got me for getting you guys to buy the actual figures so badly. I'm hunting for a good microphone for Hector. I need a head that'll fit on a Crimson Guardsman for Professor Appel. If I write up Dr. Venom I'll end up spending 40 bucks on that FMF figure...

Code Name: Big Ben (Disavowed)
File Name: Bennet, David J.
Primary Military Specialty: Infantry
Secondary Military Specialty: Subversive Operations
Birthplace: Burford, England
Rank: Staff Sergeant

Sgt. Bennet was assigned as a liaison with the GI Joe Unit and in the U.S. when President Lewis ordered the team disbanded. Bennet, as a member of the British military, was dismissed and sent home on the first available flight as he served no purpose to the administration but could not be detained. In hindsight, this was not in the best interest of the Lewis administration - Bennet was immediately reassigned to a special international unit and was assigned as the primary point of contact for several former Joes in Europe at the time of Lewis's ascension. We are aware of his collaboration with Flint, Lady Jaye, and several other Joe veterans living as ex-patriates. Lewis would like these relationships terminated, but there is little to be done to sway the British government that does not tip our hand with regards to tracking Joe members.

"We underestimated Lewis and his team but they still make some stupid mistakes, and letting our British liaison with a background in subversive operations just walk onto a plane and go home was one of them. Ben looks like a rugby player and talks like bareknuckle boxer but he's incredibly smart, and he's been instrumental in setting up a network overseas. His long-standing relationship with the Joes means that while meeting with former teammates can inevitably raise suspicion, it also offers the perfect cover - grabbing a pint with us on a Saturday night truly can be a social call, even if it's all business. Great Britain and their neighbors don't want to make a loud move yet; Lewis has the full weight of the U.S. military at his beck and call of course. But he's deeply unpopular overseas and Ben keeps that line of communication open so we Joes know who our friends are, and who has a knife at our back. And If there is a knife, Ben's willing to take a hit for us so we survive."

This week's theme is international relations, I guess:

Code Name: Quarrel (Disavowed)
File Name: Pulver, Hedda
Primary Military Specialty: Undercover Operations
Secondary Military Specialty: Commando
Birthplace: Interlaken, Switzerland
Rank: OR-6

Subject was attached to the GI Joe Unit prior to disbandment as a liaison with NATO forces. Her role was eliminated under the Lewis administration in favor of operatives more in line with Lewis's vision of international relations. Due to the sensitive nature of her relationship with Joe command, Pulver has been quietly placed under surveillance, which has confirmed she is still on contact with ex-pat Joe veterans as well as contacts in the British military and the Oktober Guard. She is currently assigned to the United Nations but her role there is unclear. Quiet missives have been sent to her superiors indicating that any assistance that can be offered in acquiring the whereabouts of former Joe members overseas would result in a favorable relationship with the U.S. Thus far all communications have been rebuffed or ignored.

"When we met Quarrel she had something to prove. The gently neglected daughter of a career diplomat, she was doing anything to prove herself - daredevil racing, dangerous espionage assignments, working with Night Force on all the stuff they do and can't talk about. But she is, in fact, the daughter of a career diplomat, and she absolutely inherited some of her father's skills on top of her own. Not only has she been pivotal in building out international Joe network - she's having quiet conversations in dark corners of the world, building a coalition of people in high places who think Lewis is going to snap and take us all with him, and those people want to be ready to step in when the opportunity strikes."

There is remarkably little to go on in her original write-ups:

Code Name: Glenda (Disavowed)
File Name: Mullighan, Jane
Primary Military Specialty: Test Pilot
Secondary Military Specialty: Intelligence
Birthplace: Buenos Aires, Argentina
Rank: E-7

Subject was a reserve member of the GI Joe Unit when President Lewis took office. Mullighan was living in her home country of Argentina at the time, working with an aeronautics research firm as a test pilot for a sophisticated, long-range stealth helicopter and a high-speed sub-orbital transport craft. Note: Lewis has requested we look into acquiring both of these vehicles for use by the U.S. military. Mullighan continues to draw a paycheck from that research firm, though the exact flight paths of her test flights are unknown and it is unclear how or where she refuels the vehicles on these trips. We have contracted the mercenary pilot Wild Weasel to attempt to track these excursions, both to better understand the technology and to verify she is not engaging in subversive activity.

"Glenda has become pivotal to our international Joes. She has access to new aircraft capable of making a transatlantic flight quickly, easily, and undetected, so when we're ready to start moving back into what has become hostile territory, Glenda's going to be the one best situated to get us there. Not every flight we take while we're pulling this international team together is on a commercial airline, right? She's always been chasing that high of faster, higher, stronger, and she's there on the bleeding edge. She's also standing by with a stealth craft to get some of our best pilots who can't get out of the U.S. right now where they need to be to get those flyboys back in the sky."

I was gonna say, is that our first mention of the Oktober Guard?! But... it's the second! Still awesome, and I love that you've gone international. Next... Gaucho! Or Mortal, who is either from Argentina as well, or... Venezuela. But both of these were fantastic and really exciting with two actiony characters and some sweet shout-outs.
