Action Force and Valaverse

I turned away for TWO GODDAMNED SECONDS and I missed the fun. Did Bobby come back to troll some more?
It’s honestly not fun. It never feels good to have to deal with a troll, which is what this guy turned out to be. I take no pleasure in banning folks.

But please: let’s move forward. Giving attention to this guy is what he wants.

Possibly hot take: I *love* Maggie Siff’s acting.
I don't know if I even had a problem with her acting. I didn't like how they handled the character though. Of the 'shrew that is an obstacle for the bad-guy-main-character to have his fun misbehavior' characters, she isn't the worst in my opinion, but the writing choices really got tedious to me.

I love Skylar White, too. In fact, I was 💯 on her side all the time. Fuck Walt. Fuck Walt from episode fucking one.
mmmmmm I wouldn’t call either of them “shrews”. I don’t know how I would act if I were a woman entangled with a violent psychopath, but I’d say all the “shrew” behavior was totally justified.

Yeah, Maggie's a fine actress. She just got stuck in the Ophelia role, which is so often misread and misplayed in the way you describe.

Well... I did not like Skylar, mostly for some of her choices not directly related to Walter, BUT... as far as Walter goes, I was also 100% on her side and was firmly on the "Fuck Walter White" bandwagon from the first episode. That show was SOOOO hard for me to get through, especially since I was told "you have to watch this" by friends who had the attitude of "oh boy, can't wait to see how Walter's gonna get out of this one!" while watching it live. I was always wanting him to get caught or killed or something. I. fucking. hated. Walter White.

Well, and I don't mean to do some verbal handwave with that word, but it's kinda how I see the writers treating the wife in some of these shows, like Carmella Soprano or Corrine Mackie, etc. Some are better handled than others, and some are truly, truly wonderful characters in their own right, my favorite being Kim Wexler, who is a deeply complex, wonderful, and flawed character in her own right while being so easy for me to sympathize with and root for.

My biggest thing is how Charlie Hunnam didn't become a bigger star after SOA, and even Pacific Rim. He was one of the better parts of The Gentleman, and completely disappears in the Ed Gein show.

Yeah, this sucks. Hunnam has been great in everything and it seems like he gets seriously overlooked. He's the ONLY reason why the King Arthur movie wasn't even worse than it was. But I think that movie killed his career.

The backstory with how THAT actor ended up in THAT role is kind of funny, but the fact that the writing team and the cast didn't turn it into a gag but rather made it beautiful and moving and respectful is WILD in a show about mostly truly shitty people.

The first time that character shows up, it very much felt like it was intended to be a gag. It was funny and it's supposed to gross you out a bit, and all the lead characters in the scene are laughing about it and making faces. It was definitely played in about the exact way you would expect for a show about a biker gang oozing machismo. But the way they turned it around over the following seasons? My God.

Agree. I FEEL what she's going through in the show. She really manages to project a fairly low-key role (in most scenes, at least). Just the looks she has on her face sometimes, the set of her jaw, the specific delivery of lines. She is actually a fantastic actor. I wish she was in more things I cared about, but SOA is literally the only thing in her filmography I have any interest in watching (besides single-appearance roles in stuff like Law & Order, I guess).

I actually didn't read the character that way at all. I actually thought she was fairly compelling as a woman caught between what she needs to do to be happy/safe, and what she needs to become to stay where she is, and her struggle between the two. I genuinely could 'feel' her being torn apart by that decision all the time. One minute convinced she has to leave, the next minute shooting up a pornstar's car as a warning. Watching her navigate that lifestyle gave me whiplash, but I think her reactions and attitude always made sense and I do think she was a compelling character in her own right.

Also, Bobby Vala is a cunt and his toy company failed without my advice to fix it. Lol.
