G.I. Joe Head Canon & Fanfic Filecards

Looking back at yesterday's cards, I think Zarana might be my favorite one in a while. I didn't mean for her to be melancholy, but like, what would it mean to be free of every bad choice you ever made, because nobody cared anymore?

Code Name: Scrap Iron
File Name: Classified
Primary Military Specialty: Tank Destroyer
Secondary Military Specialty: Demolitions Weapon Developer
Birthplace: Classified
Rank: Classified

Subject remains a black-ops contractor for the Lewis administration. Where Lewis employs the skills of a saboteur like Firefly to create chaos in order to retain power in office, Scrap Iron's role is, instead, contingency plans. His precise nature and genius for demolitions has been deployed not to create events of terror but rather set up strategic acts of destruction. With surgical precision, Scrap Iron is chipping away at key resources Lewis does not want other organizations or departments to have; quietly undermining and sabotaging National Guard bases, state infrastructures, and, most specifically identifying, tracking down and obliterating caches of vehicles, weapons, and equipment once used by GI Joe to ensure any guerrilla tactics are hamstrung from the start. Two items of note: One, Lewis has some mild reservations that Scrap Iron may retain some small loyalty to Destro as the weapons dealer gave the man his start early on, though he seems content with his current assignment. Two: he seems almost too content with his current assignment. It is in our best interest to have a contingency plan in case Scrap Iron's actions go above and beyond the requirements of the contract.

"I have a certain amount of affection for Scrap Iron, truly. He is brilliant, focused, meticulous, and ingenious in his application of his chosen art. But the man sees the imperfection in all things, including himself, and that has, in a very particular way, driven him a little mad. He finds this world and its sloven stupidity intolerable. When I found him I saw a man who wanted to blow himself up in a perfect ball of white flame. The person he has become since is even angrier, even more disgusted by the imperfections of this world and the people in it, and fear someday that rage will win and we will all suffer for it. He will build the bomb that destroys us all. And if I am being truthful, there are days I don't think he's unreasonable in how he feels."

I'm guessing Destro, but also... You at the end there.

This was a grim one but really good. Scrap Iron was one i never had as a kid and never had much interest in, but found his Classified figure cheap and fucking love it, so now I'm a big fan and love this card for him. Sorta reminds me of a not-quite-as-crazy version of Donald Sutherland on Backdraft.

Yeah, I leaked through at the end, but you know how I feel about Destro (you guessed right).

His classified figure tells a story all his own. But this bit from his original file card really hit me:
“Scrap-Iron is methodical and precise. Imperfection in any form repels him. Perhaps that's why he wants to blow up the world."

Dreadnoks and their file names I swear to GOD, he's Wee Willie Winkie?????????

Code Name: Monkeywrench
File Name: Winkie, Bill
Primary Military Specialty: Explosives
Secondary Military Specialty: Mechanic
Birthplace: Rhyl, North Wales
Rank: N/A

It is the policy of the Lewis administration to maintain surveillance on the Dreadnok biker gang, but such observation is minimal - the group tends to congregate, are rarely alone, and take no effort to conceal their activities or whereabouts. One of the few members demanding more attention by Lewis's agents is Bill Winkie. While on the surface no different than any other Dreadnok, Winkie's anarchist streak has a particularly troublesome flavor, as the man spent time before joining the gang amongst actual terrorist groups in the United Kingdom. Far from the typical hellraiser archetype, Winkie combines technical know-how with an actual desire to change his environment, for better or for worse. Agents considered hiring him on a consultant basis as we have with other off-the-books agents, but Winkie proves to be too volatile and emotional to be relied upon. We have considered deporting him, but his home country does not want him and Australia was glad to be rid of him.

"Monkeywrench is the most dangerous kind of man - someone with ideals. I don't think he fully knows what those ideals are, but he's not just along for fun like the rest of the Dreadnoks. He aims to be the change he wants to see in the world, and that change is chaos. In many ways we're fortunate he's not motivated to lead people. Zandar, as acting chief of the Dreadnoks, commands respect but not love, and keeps a distance between himself and everyone else. Monkeywrench wears his heart on his sleeve, as ugly and scarred up as it is, and when he gets impassioned about something it's easy to get caught up on it, and suddenly you find yourself with a lit Molotov cocktail in your hand singing a Shrapnel song wondering how you got there. He's like if that Welsh actor who hangs out with that Scottish actor decided to be a sociopath instead of thespian."

I fell behind on these. Great stuff as always. Really liked Wild Bill having 'one more in the tank.' I'd love to see what that one more ride really looks like for a six-shooting cowboy with an attack helicopter.

Zarana is really good. Character I don't care about at all that, once again, I am now invested in. And I can't decide if I want her to just fade away to go live her life or get sucked back in by some stupid Lewis decision and end up fully on the warpath against Cobra. Maybe alongside Mainframe....

IGs automatically get more interesting here just by the political intrigue involved in this storyline. The bodyguard-type roles just get immediately deeper and more layered in this setting.

I love the bit with Scrap Iron where it's like "yeah he seems content.." "TOOOOO CONTENT! Look at this fucking psycho, no way he's fucking content, we're all gonna fucking die!" Perfect. Also, the way he's written as this driven, meticulous guy really makes me interested in how the 'I strap rocket launchers all over my body' guy is gonna turn out.

And I now have an immediate affinity with Monkeywrench of all fucking characters.
