Just arrived via Deep Discount. Gonna try some hand poses that the kids are doing on the social media

I wasn't going to order this (or the Warpath/X-23 set) based on my new rule of not buying re-dos unless they're drastic improvements...I failed. Twice.

I hate that they charge a premium for this but couldn’t be bothered to use the same silver paint as the last version.

I wouldn’t consider this a drastic improvement unless you really hate the SDCC box set version. I think in most people’s cases, it’s an availability issue, not quality. This fills a hole that might still be in a lot of people’s collections. It’s the same body as Angel. The wings are cumbersome and unwieldy. He comes with alternate fists and open clawed hands, and a neutral head and a screaming head. I don’t have the original handy to compare paint jobs, but I won’t be displaying this with those really old figures. He hopefully will match Warpath and X-23, though I believe they are sporting grey, not silver. This design fits better with the X-23 pack than the Remender Uncanny group. Opena’s version of Archangel looked different.

Yeah, this kills me. Mine just arrived (like, literally two minutes ago) and I haven't opened it yet, but I can tell from the pics I'm gonna hate these wings. Such a big huge amount of flat gray. Bleh.

I also hate that we’re getting redos of characters on bigger bodies that don’t match any of their other looks. It’s a pet peeve of mine. It smacks of planned obsolescence and continues to highlight the lack of diversity in the parts library.

That figure looks awesome! I love the black and silver. It looks sleek and elegant. Great pics NORM. Thanks for sharing :)

Scale wise or just proportions?

Neither. I just don’t like the same character on drastically different bodies/physiques. It bothers me and I am aware that is a personal preference, but it exists. I hate when too many characters all share the same body, too. The oversaturation of Bucky cap is not solved by just oversaturating the Vulcan body.

I agree with the above, I just wasn't sure what you specifically meant with "bigger bodies."

I'm somewhat surprised to hear this. Not that they're cumbersome and unwieldy, but that they're any worse than the original wings. The originals are huge and a pain to manipulate.

I was hoping to maybe put the old wings on this new figure. I have the SDCC version, but this looks like a nice upgrade for the most part. Till you see those wings. If I can id just do that. Probably have to pull them off the backpack and hope they fit the holes for the new wings.
BBTS charged me for X23 and Warpath. I'm waiting on a couple more things before I ship them though. This set is definitely an upgrade. I have the old warpath in my display and he looks dated. Really dated. And Laura gets some new pieces I like so worth it i hope.

I'm exactly the same. Unless the figure is based on different artists take on a character but usually I like figures of characters to look like it's the same person in a different outfit.

They’re long, so they get in the way of a neutral standing pose. They have weird spots for pivots and hinges. Not sure what the goal was for their placement. I can get him to almost close around his body, but did he ever pose like that? Can’t really get a wide horizontal wing span from him. The smaller set of wings can be positioned on the outside or closer to his body, but have to be removed to do so. I’m not sure what’s correct. He’s not going to make it into my main display, he just takes up too much space. They’re awkward for sure.

Then there’s those wing daggers! They clip onto the wings pretty easily, but I’ve only gotten them on the tips of his wings, haven’t experimented with other spots to attach. But as is, I he can only aim down? It’s strange. I’m not sure how they’re supposed to be positioned when firing in the comics. But they’re likely an accessory I’ll rarely display if ever.

I’m usually not one to bash Hasbro, nor am I an apologist. I feel like I can temper a balanced review. I’m not in love with this figure first day. Will need time to fidget, see how he looks with the rest of the team. But alone, he’s a 6 or 7 out of 10. Not even for the reasons of paint color or body type. Just as an in-hand figure.
