NECA - General Thread

That's how it is here too- all the Legos are behind glass at every Target, and a few of them even have some of the basic figures behind glass too. Theft is pretty rampant here in NY, so in some stores it feels like half the store is behind glass. Depending on when you go, it can take forever and a day to get an employee to come unlock it for you. Sometimes they never show up at all. I keep anticipating the day that I walk in and all the NECA stuff is behind glass, since it's in the electronics section. I feel a little more trusting of NECA's stuff- I don't see as many wonky paint apps or warped limbs or things, but I still don't want an employee hovering over or keep calling them back if I wanna check out each figure individually.
I would hate that so much. It was already awkward when the lady at Target had to come take the spider wrap off my gangster turtle 4 pack.

The thing that cracks me up about all the product behind glass at my local Target, is that the store is thinly staffed enough that the staff just go through, unlock all the cases and leave because its too big a hassle to have to be called over ever time a customer needs something like deodorant or a toothbrush or whatever. I haven't seen them do that in the Lego aisle, but in the other aisles its standard procedure

I wish that's how they did things here. You better know damn well what kind of deodorant or shampoo/body wash you want, cuz you don't get to stand there and smell each one. I used to love browsing the store, but I've started just placing pick up orders for any essentials, otherwise I'll spend 20 minutes or more just waiting for someone to come unlock things.

Hooper's up at Target:

My LCS had the 2 Jaws Ultimates priced at $30. Wasn't sure if that would be the case across the board, but I guess not. Wonder why they priced so low. Also, thanks for reminding me I need to rewatch Jaws. Can't for the life of me really remember it.

Jaws is getting a theatrical rerelease this summer. So if you can hold off rewatching it a bit, I suggest seeing it on the big screen. My friend manages a Regency theater which has Throwback Tuesdays, and I saw Jaws last year. If you haven’t seen it in a while, seeing it in a theater is a great way of getting reacquainted with it.

I almost bought Matt Hooper but the fact that Brody will never be made just puts a damper on me wanting to get any human figures to go with the shark when he comes out. I don't think a surprise curveball is coming either because if that was happening it would have been smart for Neca to release Ultimate Brody first because I know I'm not the only one that has reservations about buying in because of that.

So what’s the deal? Roy Scheider’s MAGA brain rot is so severe he’s all Steve Ditko about his likeness or something?

A couple of somewhat reputable sources have reported that he had stipulated that anything bearing his likeness could only be made in America.

So hey, benefit to tariffs if they actually do get figures ever made over here. We can finally get our $100 Brody figure.

Good point! May as well experience it the best way possible. Thanks for the idea!

Assuming they are able to somehow get the rights to Brody, I suppose if they really wanted to, they could always make him a NECA store exclusive, or a limited edition like Pamela Voorhees or something, but that would inevitably lead to some folks not being able to get him, which would also be a bummer. From what I do remember of the movie, and just from general discourse, I think I could potentially be okay with just getting Bruce and Quint for the display (or just Bruce, really)

I guess we could take the bottom half of a figure with tan pants and stick the legs out of the upcoming shark and there's your Brody representation. Not that he got eaten in the movie but it could happen on the shelf.

Which mid grade 70s actor am I confusing him with ? One of those c grade Peter Weller types

There we go. Similar ages and builds. 6 foot. Brown hair. Solid but nothing special in some 70s and 80s proper films but also B films of the era.

In Scheider’s defense I consider him upper mid tier and Woods lower mid tier
