Fwoosh Toys/Articulated Icons - A Retrospective

I got the impression that Robo left The Fwoosh in large part because he wanted no part in being dragged into the company producing toys. When I talked to those two at the last Power Con, they were showing off prototypes, but it certainly didn't feel like it was their project at all.
Alternatively - they already had suspicions. The rumor is also that Veebs and Robo already didn't feel like they were being adequately compensated for their part in Fwoosh's success. All speculation, of course. Robo and Veebs haven't said anything that I'm aware of in any direction.

That being said, they know Paul better than any of us do, I'd wager. And they know general Fwoosh business better than we do. I'd like to hear their opinion on everything going on, as well as what they know that we don't. I just don't think it'll happen.

We crossed paths and didn't know it?

I'm trying to remember one of our Australian Fwooshers from back in the day. I'm embarrassed to admit I forgot his name, considering we actually met up in Sydney once when I was traveling back in 2010(ish). I'm pretty sure he hasn't been active in a good while - or, I'm a total nincompoop and he's been here all along.

Simmo?

I really appreciate that this place is Tapatalk compatible. I don’t use a computer for personal stuff anymore. Only my phone.

We did! I live in Columbus. My pal Boy Wonder & I went to both Power Cons here, until fate decided we could no longer have nice things... It really was the most fun I've had as a collector! I hope it comes back.
You know, I think I knew that, actually. Not sure if you're aware--I was Blanka on the RTM Buzz. 😀 I'm actually about 2 hours from you, closer to Akron.

I agree, hopefully Val brings it back. From what I've heard, though, it's not looking too promising. Fingers crossed. Would love to meet up and put faces to the names!

Damn, RTM. Lifetimes ago.

Did anything happen that would prompt J and other podcasts to suddenly jump on this topic?

I remember RTM, but I was never an active member there. I did a couple of short stints on a couple other boards over the years, but it was pretty much always just Fwoosh for me.

I didn't post very often at RTM or Fwoosh back in the day, but I was more of a regular lurker with an occasional comment at RTM and Fwoosh was just an occasional stop. At the time, I preferred RTM's old format and hated the change to the standard message board format. Before Articulated Thoughts became a new home, I was going to jokingly suggest everybody start posting at RTM.

Remember Myth Busters? Adam Savage regularly posts answers to viewer questions on YouTube. Just yesterday, he was talking about the custom prop scene on message boards and how communication was often more or just as important as delivery.

I was there too! That was the best convention I've ever attended with so many companies in attendance and the added bonus of the seemingly completely random Arnold Schwarzenegger statue. Love the Columbus area, too.

What are the issues bringing it back? It seemed very successful.

Well...the "official" story is that there was a scheduling conflict, and someone else had the venue booked at the same time Val Staples likes to hold PowerCon. Which doesn't make sense, because there are multiple halls in the place that it could be held.

Unofficially, I've heard numerous excuses.

-It's not profitable enough.
-Val is burnt out.
-Val thinks it would be better in a bigger city.

We will find out soon enough, I guess.
