I would love to think the CEOs took a hard-line threatening stance and told him they'd put signage on all their empty shelves informing their customers that Trump's tariffs were responsible but in reality I'm sure they just kissed his ass and flattered him like most do to get their way.

I know billionaires and CEOs would never, but for a brief moment there I had the nicest daydream imagining that happening.
 
Admittedly when this tariff thing was first getting out of hand my first thought was Walmart is never going to let him get away with this. It would decimate their business. He is Trump, I know, but they are Walmart.

I'm pretty sure if you ask Trump for any kind of status updated regarding tariff talks, the war in Ukraine, his bowel movements, etc. he's going to say he's making tremendous progress or something similar. It's his default reaction because he's a pathological liar/bullshit artist.
 
I'm on my third "we're probably not going to survive this" email this week from a gaming company I've bought from for over a decade. Most recent one isn't shutting down but pausing all new projects until the tariff situation is resolved. Basically hitting pause on their entire business and hoping they can ship what's already been preordered and survive.

Are you talking about board games? That community seems to be particularly worried about the situation. I guess a lot of those games are passion projects and have razor thin margins and most is crowd funded so now the tariffs are wrecking things.

I should've been more specific. Board games, yeah, they're getting splattered. Even if their book components don't count ("books" are exempt but that's a nebulous term in gaming) all the game components are manufactured in China so a lot of these companies are being choked out, especially if they have stuff like miniatures or plastic tokens.
 
A YouTuber/Artist I follow and have backed other KS items from had to postpone launching his newest campaign because he can't plan for what the extra cost could end up being, and the US is a pretty large part of his audience/customer base.

Yeah, the hobby gaming scene is where I'm seeing the hurt most right now. Everybody is feeling it a bit, and some will be hit hard later if things don't improve, but tabletop is the canary int he coal mine and this very well may kill some long standing companies.

1000%. He lies to cover his ass, even when the truth is widely available. He lies when there's no benefit and only risk. He lies like he doesn't know how to tell the truth. The man is just fundamentally broken.

I still read Penny Arcade and Jerry has a lot of friends in the indie tabletop industry. It sounds like they're all pretty scared about the future.
 
Super 7 just sent out an email saying they would be adding an 8% surcharge to cover the tariffs. That would put Ultimates at about $60 which isn't a horrible increase. I feel like most people who were willing to pay $55 would still be willing to pay $60.
