MONDO Masters of the Universe 1/12 and 1/6

I’m so sad Clawful cost $140…. I really can’t justify that much for what basically seems to be a glorified staction (he’s not posed cool in any of their fun promo shots, just kinda standing around angrily waving) he’s really really cool and I hope this line succeeds for everyone who can go there (Storm still sells $100 Street Fighter figures, Mezco sells $100+ DC and Marvel characters, there’s gotta be a Market for He-Man fans willing to do the same)

With Mattel revisiting these exact designs, at a fraction of the cost, it's an absolute no brainer for me to pass on these. They look incredible, but it's just not cost efficient. I've never even watched this version of the show. I liked the redesigns I've seen as figures, but not at $100 a pop. I wonder how many people will actually order these, and if the line will continue past these initial offerings.

MotU has never really had a premium line though. No imports or anything like that. So we'll see...
I think Mondo was smart to go with the 200X line because it has definitely been shortchanged over the years for figures. However with the current economic situation it might be a tough sell for the price on a subline of a bigger franchise.

Though I do think if the movie does well it could benefit all MOTU product.

Here's my problem:

I know I'm getting these. I'll cave, eventually. Especially as the deadline closes. These are just too gorgeous. But mother fucker, am I angry about it. These are an unacceptable price, and Mondo really shot themselves in the foot at these prices. There is no way the line survives like this. Not to any great longevity. It will die incomplete.

Certainly not with these taxes, far too expensive shipping, and tariffs.

But I will support it--because I enjoy MOTU.

I'll also get the Origins releases. And if they do Masterverse versions, I'll get those, too.

I *love* the 200x series. This is my burden and sin. It's what brought me and so many others back to MOTU.

I definitely find myself wondering if 200x as a version of the franchise with enough fan support, among the right demographic (i.e. people with this kind of disposable income), to ever actually sustain a line like this. I get why they'd want to go with 200x. But like... there's a reason, I'm guessing, that the 1:6 figures are reinterpretations of classic designs.

How MANY MOTU collectors, really, want 200x MOTU that looks this good, this badly? I dunno.

I know the fact that they're adding detail and a little of their own spin to these is what's driving my interest. I would've maybe preferred wholly original takes, I dunno. But I'm not looking for animation faithful product for this series, it was the 4H designs that I liked more the first time around.

Norm! You should watch it. It's a fun ride.

The thing to remember here is the cast is extensive. This is just the intro price for these. I don't feel like there is any way price creep isn't a factor going forward a few years from now if this line is still going. If I got He-Man and Clawful now and Skeletor and Teela a few months from now, will I be paying $175 shipped for Mer-Man and Man-at-Arms two years from now? Once they have you, they have you. I had rather evade their clutches from the beginning.

I would be happy to see main cast. If I get a Beast Man, Tri-klops, Ram Man, Orko, and Teela--aside from the Mer-Man, Man-At-Arms, and Skeletor shown, I'd be happy.

I'd be happier with lower prices, but...as far as the cast...I don't need a Sy-Klone or even Mekanek. I'd welcome them, but those would suffice. Again, if the line survives these ridiculous prices.

See, I factor this 'main cast' thing in as well, but I end up going in the opposite direction. If I want, minimally, to have at least the core cast; that is, in Canadian dollars and BEFORE shipping (and allowing for possibly free shipping from some places here) just about $1350. Just to have a 'core cast.' No. Fucking. Way.

You're double-stuffed fucked, then. Because if the line has legs, you go bankrupt. And if it doesn't, you will pretty much be guaranteed to have a collection that feels incomplete.
I just don't see if having legs. I have a hard time telling myself no where figures are concerned but so far it hasn't felt so hard with this. I see the 1/6th scale Mondo and have a tinge of regret every time a new release is shown but it goes away quickly and I think it will be the same for these.
