General Marvel Legends

There was a local RI news bit that hit my YouTube about how the move to Boston is going to hurt the local town economy. Other than that, I haven't even seen anyone talk about it.

It's an interesting watch. Cool to get more of an unfiltered Ryan Ting. I really don't like either 3POA host - or the streaming platform. Anyone paying a few bucks to get attention on their nonsense comment that is addressed on stream no matter what is so awkward and stupid. The bearded guy reminds me a lot of people on forums I've never agreed with and the Vala guys seems veeeery pompous, I guess his company is a success? Fair enough considering they don't seem to have any major properties. But his world now seems very different from the Hasbro/Disney world, yet he wants to appear like he just understands everything and is right about it all.

Used to work with a guy like that. He was an expert in Star Wars and Nintendo and that was his personality. He was the self designated authority. Except he wasn't, because he only memorized the Star Wars OT DVD commentaries and trivia. If someone asked about the comics or books or games he'd short out. Especially if it was a woman asking, because now he has no self assigned power.

And then when he was actually wrong about the trivia, God help the person that stepped in his Special Interest spotlight.

He'd get all excited when the new cashier or seasonal help was a gamer girl, and then you'd watch him meltdown when she loved Sony or liked Final Fantasy but not Zelda.

He was out of his understanding zone and the charisma dropped to become snarky and bullying.

I actually meet a lot of people like that in nerd space. I get nerdsplained / bulked up on all the time in video games when I'm just double checking information.

I didn't realize I did this until a girlfriend pointed it out, but I tend to play dumb and just withhold information so that I can try and connect with people and let them feel special because I don't want them to know that I already know more than them about Kitty Pryde or blink 182 or something. Of course, that just enables this weird bullying hierarchy thing.

Anyway, typical alt long winded post to say, "probably why I can't get on with these dudes." Super sucks when they're your superiors in a job or career.

He just has this attitude like he made all the right decisions at Hasbro and all of his great ideas were all shot down so he's endlessly bitter. Maybe he is taking all of this learning and running an amazing company - but he doesn't deal with the same corporate BS anymore. Not sure when he left, but he's still not over it and it's clear... which makes the interview unnecessarily awkward at times.

And the "I was gonna hop in with a comment, but I just don't think I will" moments... good lord man, you're an adult.

Real big "I'm not over my ex" vibes that just never seem to go away.

There's often some kind of tax incentive or other monetary reason for a move. Or simply the cost of rent. Hard to imagine how MA would be cheaper than RI, but they probably wouldn't bother unless that were the case. Not sure exactly where the new HQ is, but I've worked with a lot of people who commute from Providence to Boston via the rail. There are worse commutes to have to deal with and I used to do NH to Boston on a daily basis.
It's likely they're also downsizing the total amount of space they're renting by some amount.

Who is the other commentator? Is he a collector or is/was he in the toy making biz?

Never heard of him. He's an ACBA guy which says collector with a little extra entitlement. He seems to know a lot about Legends from the last decade at least.

Still watching this thing in chunks - the Valla guy just tossed out "If the guy who won toy of the year isn't safe (him) - then who is!" He seems insufferable. The other guy responded with "Didn't your boss not like you?" And... yeah I could see that.

Wasn't Dwight his boss?

The move to Massachusetts: I did a very brief google search on Chris Cox. I saw that he's originally from Ohio, but he did go to Harvard, which is in Massachusetts. Now the company is moving to Massachusetts. Coincidence? Does he live there/have family there? Would he uproot an entire company to just be closer to home/family/the state he went to college?

Listening to this, I don't have a ton of hope for additional Thunderbolts releases...

Who is Talker? Why are they... relevant?

Bobby Vala? Yeah, he IS insufferable.

Can't even say he's relevant. He's a wannabe toy influencer whose entire impact on the community was being racist and a total cunt to Dan and Ryan once during a con floor livestream he was doing, and the following awkward confrontation. That was three years ago.

Yeah - this gave me very little hope on finishing Thunderbolts. And, of course, neither interviewer FOLLOWED UP AT ALL. Ryan opened the door!
