Tracking toy tariffs

OMG, the Andrew Garfield in my HLJ private warehouse has a total shipping of $83. Guess he's going to be there a while.

WTF? None of the other Japanese retailers I've checked in recent days are doing this.
Are any others even shipping to the US right now? As far as I can tell HLJ only has one US shipper back online. It might change in the future. IIRC the stuff I have on hold there is like $40 shipping, but it's very small stuff.

I had a few things accumulate at Hobby Genki starting in June and waited too long. I think they're just going to stay there indefinitely.

I'm in the same spot. I have several items from different countries on semi-permanent hold. I'm not paying almost $100 shipping to get them.

Isn't Hobby-Genki doing DHL and UPS shipments to the US? Their home page says they are, and when I fill a cart with stuff and go to checkout the shipping costs are higher than a few months ago but not prohibitively terrible like HLJ is charging.

I mentioned last week that the tariff rate on Japan could still go up to 25%, but they finally signed a deal earlier this week finalizing the rate at 15%. That's not terrible, and it's WAY less than this bullshit HLJ is charging. Supposedly both DHL and UPS have ways set up to charge the 15% now and not that insane $80 and up flat rate so whatever HLJ has landed on is mystifying.

Another thing I'm seeing is that AliExpress prices haven't changed much. When I Google why that is I see Reddit users saying it's because AliExpress groups individual items up into shipping containers and ships them all together so it's avoiding the de minimis confusion with higher-value mass shipments going the same route as most other mass-imported goods.

WTF is a carrier fee? What do they think shipping costs are? That should be the end of ‘carrier’ fees. Sucks that on top of everything already they want to gouge even further. Enjoy not having any business!
If it wasn't just rhetorical outrage, I just feel that itch to...

It's another word for Brokerage Fee, advancing the payments and doing the paperwork.

You can bypass it if you go to DHL or UPS's office, which is probably going to be at the Airport for most cities. Inconvenient at worst, idiotic use of your time at best. To pile more WTF on here, WTF is the deal with not being able to do this online, on a portal or app, in this day and age?

I guess the positive is Japan DHL is telling you up front rather than pulling you onto Maury for a surprise, or the FedEx special, where they just do it all, then hit you with collections a year later about something you never knew occurred.

I read comments you can avoid the fees by "self clearing". I think that was the term they used. So, that's not something you can do online?
Give us $22.50 for that Mafex you bought nine months ago and these twins are your kids, please take them with you.

One of the guys on ACBA from last night's show said he got an EMS package and didn't pay anything on a $400 package. Is it possible he could get hit with Bill later on?

My recent Hobby Genki was DHL. I had to pay an extra fee once it got into the country, but I got my thing.

How much was your order, how much was the fee, and who did you have to pay that fee to--was it DHL?

This is all so in flux I have no idea if post-shipment fees are the new norm or you were an exception because all of this is changing week by week.

Everyone involved in the shipping process charging extra for the time they've had to spend in recent months figuring this mess out?
Yes. Companies aren't going to swallow the extra administrative burden without charging you for it. Worse, they see an opportunity to profit. Why not make a buck or two while they're at it?

While I'm remiss not to blame corporations for their greed, let's remember that they're the middleman here. This is only possible because of Trump.
