Got my BBTS loot yesterday- Metaluna Mutant, Der Klown, and Krampus. What a box of goodies!
I quite like Metaluna Mutant. Obviously it's a bit barebones in terms of accessories, but the sculpt definitely makes up for that. To be honest, the NECA figures that are, like, loaded with accessories, most of them go into baggies or to other figures anyway, so it's not the biggest deal. Really like the colors on this guy- he'll certainly pop on the shelf. Never seen the movie, but I may be tempted to now.
Der Klown is a lot of fun. Not a whole lot you can do with it pose-wise, but it has a lot of shelf presence, cuz he THICC, as the kids would say. The whole thing reminds me of Pennywise- from the box that doubles as the little circus box thing, the wide, monstrous mouth, and, you know, the clown thing. He's certainly more of a companion piece, but I don't regret getting him at all. Gonna keep him displayed with that hangry mouth and the kid's feet sticking out, methinks.
Krampus is just a beast of a figure. What's the term for half figure, half statue- staction figure? Whatever the term, he's simply stunning to look at. Certainly worth the wait in my eyes. The sculpt on his robes is truly fantastic, and I love the detail of being able to see the half-bent goat legs through the sculpt. A great way to implement that part of him if they weren't going to go the full fabric robe route. I'm probably so stupid for it, but I don't think I ever realized he was wearing a skin mask (maybe of Santa himself?). I just always thought he had a weird, uncanny face, but now I can see that he's that same goat-like design from folklore, just wearing a human mask over his face. Being able to see and admire all the details up close on the figure really helps me appreciate his design even more- it was creepy before, but now it's even creepier.
Haven't gotten around to putting all the bones and baubles on him yet; think I might try and glue them to the chains when I can; knowing my place and my cat, if they ever fall off, they'll be gone forever. The tongues are a bit of a pain to get in; haven't managed to successfully yet, but I'll probably end up trying to heat them up to stick them in (you heard me). I do think that, were he ever unlucky enough to fall off the shelf, he'd probably break fairly easily (or break something else), but he seems so sturdy that I don't fear that'll happen like a lot of my other NECA figures.
One thing I did notice that's interesting- all the video reviews I checked out from last year's batch had those sideways goat eyes, whereas mine just has plain reddish orange eyes. Was there a reason for that change? Not that these are bad, per se, but I think I like those goat eyes a little more.
