U.S. Politics

Heh, I’ve never heard of Dan Larson either. Then again, I only watch YouTube people when my wife wants to watch spooky amusement park walkthroughs and such. I’m just not interested in the “personality” aspect of it: just give me a written summary with relevant photos, no “color commentary”, no “influencing”, no “like and subscribe!!” That’s just all icky to me.

Secret Galaxy isn't an influencer channel. It's more documentary I guess? They dive in on the history of a subject each week. There are other videos and livestreams and such, but I skip those.

I am with you on that. I can't stand a lot of youtubers and I have maybe three youtube people I check in on now and then, but Secret Galaxy is definitely one of them, probably top of the list. Partly because my favorite person on youtube now only posts once a year (I assume she's busy with her writing career, which is obviously great), but mostly because he does a great job of being informative and amusing. I SERIOUSLY recommend you check the channel and sift through their videos until you find a topic you're into, then give it a try. Like I said, when @DarthDre758 introduced me to him, I binged through the videos like crazy.

I keep thinking back to when this thread kicked off when I'd mentioned that the biggest fight I had back in January was over RFK Jr. and Pete Hegseth. Recalling now that the argument stemmed from someone getting VERY defensive that I wasn't giving "recovering addicts a chance to redeem themselves" and I was like I don't care if these guys were angels or ate babies, they're going to do actual, lasting harm that is going to get people killed.

Like, I don't care if someone needed a liver transplant or what they shoved up their nose in college, I care about their INTENT, and these guys telegraphed that they were going to murder people through policy long before they had a job. And now five years out from a literal pandemic we don't have a functioning CDC and we're going to go after anti-depressants instead of gun control. Unbelievable.

(On the Dan Larson/Youtuber thing, I'm just laughing at myself because I literally follow one channel on Youtube and it's just Irish people trying weird food and drink. I've never followed another channel in my life and I'm wondering if that makes me a late-stage boomer or something.)

"What if Trump does a great job in his second term?" What if I build my own spaceship and go live on Mars? Trump is almost 80. RFK is 71. These guys have been criminals, hucksters, and frauds for their entire lives.

Centrists and righties desperately want us to accept Trump into our hearts. "Just give him a chance!" How much evidence do I need before I can safely say, "He's done so much harm, he could devote all of his remaining days on Earth to the right causes and it wouldn't make a difference"? Russ Vought is almost 50. These people are who they are. I don't believe in true evil, but these guys try to change my mind daily.

If you interviewed a con man for an open position at your job, you wouldn't think, "He can change." You'd send his ass packing and never think about him again. I don't know how we give more benefit of the doubt to the President of the United States than to a junior HR assistant.

Simple.

Like many other rich people the general public tends to believe they are rich because they are smart, or special in some way that the average person is not.

They can't be bad people or dumb because they are rich. That makes them special and we should treat them as such and want to be like them.

Hence why history is littered with examples of terrible people with money and power.

@docsilence that is the kinda post that needs to have multiple emojis because I felt a few very different things reading it. but my laughing was for the very end. hard agree on the rest.
The TRY channel. Go back to their early stuff when they keep sneaking durian fruit into the taste tests. Great stuff. Also there's like a 75% chance after a few videos you will have someone in the cast you're actively in love with.

But yeah, the whole... "he's in recovery!" thing fucking pissed me off. Especially because these are the same assholes who wouldn't give Hunter Biden the benefit of being in recovery.

As someone who *literally* advocates for addicts in recovery to have “second chances” EVERY DAMN DAY at my job, I cannot begin to express my disgust with how addiction/recovery is used by MAGA in the political sphere. Like fuck Joe Biden personally and professionally, but I still seethe in white-hot rage at how Hunter’s addiction was jerked around in the public eye as if addiction is a moral failing (IT FUCKING ISN’T and I’ll happy step outside with anyone who says otherwise, and I’ll have science on my side as well as my fists), and then do all this “GIVE HIM A CHANCE” bullshit with proven, chronic malfeasants. Also these fuckers, Trump included, can talk about this shit once they’ve actually undergone hardcore inpatient treatment for addiction and attendant co-morbidities. Just another instance of MAGA rejecting all expertise and reacting emotionally and hypocritically. Always fun to remember that the “fuck your feelings” crowd are the most craven emotional-argument whiners of all and always have been.

Every fucking time. They do it every fucking time and their voters still try to kick Lucy's football.

and here comes the next pandemic...

I’m hopeful states can bring in vaccines. Of course, that doesn’t help people in states with Republican governors.

I live in the province where they decided to start charging for Covid vaccines because 'they were wasting too many having them available all the time.' I will remind you, we ostensibly have 'free healthcare' here. But Smith (the provincial leader) is girl-Trump and hates everyone that isn't a white Christian rich person and wants all of us to fucking die, so she has destroyed education, healthcare, transit; literally anything she can do to make peoples' lives worse and then claim that 'see? things are bad because of Liberals soemhow.' Fucking criminal scumbag cunt.

I used to interview a lot of folks from the CDC. The agency has had it's slip-ups, it has never been perfect, but damned near every single person working there before now legitimately just wanted to keep Americans from dying horribly from contagious disease. RFK Jr. is a fucking pox on the world. Gut the CDC just in time for another outbreak while we make it impossible for people in high-risk states to get the vaccine. I have to work REALLY FUCKING HARD to remember that the people who deserve to suffer are never going to be the ones who do the suffering. We need a plague to rip through wealthy bigoted white dudes in power.
