I asked my wife for a top three and she came back with Spider-Man, Cap, and Iron Man. She gave Black Widow as Marvel's #1 woman. Ike Perlmutter should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
It's funny to see so many different permutations of Marvel's top three when I think 80+% of people would agree on DC's. A DC top 10 would be fascinating, though.
Here's my Marvel list (based on recognition) because I can't help myself:
- Spider-Man
- Wolverine
- Hulk
- Captain America
- Iron Man
- Storm
- Black Panther
- Punisher
- Thing
- Rogue
My runners-up would be Daredevil, Thor, Gambit, Nightcrawler, and Jean.
The Marvel Comics reddit has been doing a similar exercise for the last few months. They're up to Marvel's top 83 heroes now:
Absolutely true. The X-Men didn't work until Claremont took over the book. The X-Men were irrelevant for the first 15 years and then completely and utterly dominant for the last 50.
100%. As a kid in the aughts, I felt like I had to hide my toy collection and comic fandom. That didn't fuck me up at all or give me any complexes around my hobby.
@Beamish enough to knock her off your top 10?
